Maybe there's something to this? I see a number of ex-sabres in the league who appears to be way better fits for their new respective teams than when they were playing for us.

Other than RoR, no Conn Smyth winners but some strong performances as 2nd tier and support players. McNabb, Sekera, Foligno, Ennis, shit... Gerbe is still active!

It just doesn't seem work out here for them....

That's because other teams (at least the successful ones) tend to have an "identity" and players know what is expected of them. And these teams acquire players that fit the identity and play the style of game their organization is pushing for.

Hard to have an identity or organizational philosophy when you're changing everything every 2 or 3 years.

I agree with this.

If we had faith in Management/Ownership we would be ecstatic for a roster consisting of Jack Eichel, Rasmus Dahlin, Dylan Cozens, Victor Olofsson and Jeff Skinner.

Instead we're like Lenny looking at Homer Simpson saying "he's about to do something stupid."
And in addition it's just not good form to talk about how bad players on your team are. Even if you feel certain guys stink and need to go you don't want to upset the players you like, and diminish the assets you're trying to move

Its just going to be wait and see, can't really judge him until he starts making moves because everything he's saying is fine.

In contrast with Botterill's non-substantive babble.
+1 for Adams...

IMO, the style of game played comes via the GM. He supplies the players to the coaches who are on board with this and able to apply it. I'm really not sure what the Sabres style is these days. The last time I felt I knew was during Ruff's reign.

Was Krueger implementing Botterill's world view? Or was Botterill supposed to be supplying Krueger ( and Housley before him) with players that fit what they wanted to do on the ice?

GMTM seemed to have a good mesh with Blysma regarding playing style except for both's deficiencies which killed any possibility of enabling a multiplier effect. Heck when Murray couldn't tell his boss what he had accomplished the previous season, you had to know the GM position was above his pay grade.

At this point, I would just be satisfied if the Sabres were known to be one of the hardest working teams in hockey.... irrespective of wins or loses. Instead, they are known to be one of the NHL's premier shit show's.

Adams and Krueger are the same. They have a know your role, do your job mentality. Krueger is like Belichick in that regard. Housley thought he could win with schemes without mastering the fundamentals. Almost nothing Botterill did made sense. A high school kid could have done a better job.

History shows Housley was totally out of his element as HC. He's running a pretty good D scheme in AZ right now. He has a goalie and a couple of elite level D's to work with. Makes the job easier.

There's quite a bit of detail in that Vogl article that the other articles have glossed over.
Even while watching his son play baseball, Sabres GM Kevyn Adams gets an earful
  1. Adams has been getting to know the players through calls and video meetings
  2. He's been contacting every GM around the league
  3. He's contacted a lot of agents and has been prioritizing RFA's and UFA's on the roster.
  4. He hasn't made a decision on adding an AGM - my guess is he'll promote Mark Jakubowski if he decides to add one.

I think Seth Appert will have a role in filling out the Amerks roster. He's seen and coached a lot of players and probably has a good idea of which ones that have slipped under the radar.

Here's the full quote of Adams discussion about wanting players that fit together:

“We’re looking very closely at the players we have, how they fit together, what they do for us day in and day out. It’s really important to put a team on the ice that can match up from (forward lines) one through four, (defensemen) one through six on the back end, and in net.

“Our team right now has a lot of really good players. What maybe hasn’t been exactly right is how they all fit together. I’m working on that. I’m thinking a lot about that. I’m talking to a lot of different people. I’m just trying to find out how we put that together, not just from what the lineup looks on paper but how they ultimately sync up together.”

The Sabres have had HORRID management and ownership that makes the WRONG picks every step of the way. guys that the Sabres would play on line 2 a PLAYOFF caliber team would play on their 3rd 4th line. The Sabres are also SOFT AS CHARMIN..and are a easy team to play against..very few gritty/sandpaper type guys....look at say the Islanders..they are a team thats tough to play against.. Its not that the players that are soft(er) cant play or are bad..but when you have a team full of them its a issue..team grit and makeup is horrid..Sabres DO have some real good pieces but they just dont all fit together as is. they need at least 5 guys in here that are brand new faces.

but this is what 2 HORRID GM's in here gets you...and then Inept owners hiring the BAD GM's... I cant tell you what Adams will bring..im not that optimistic..he will have to PROVE he can do it before I believe he can..but I wont call him a bust or bad before I see..but no faith either.

I will not blame him if we trade Sam or Risto for futures, at least perhaps we will get an elite prospect for ELC contract and which is ready to produce.

Is this guy still under the impression Sabres are operating under Mission Essential personnel? I know Kim likely told him he’s not critical compared to her but he’s kinda essential now.

Adams has a ton of cap space to work with and should take his time to spend it. Might be some unexpected players available during and after UFA / RFA season. He also talked about flexibility moving forward which might explain the low 70 million cap range. Getting ready for that Dahlin contract. Reinhart is going to be a very interesting signing as well, both by term and cap hit. We just can’t be fleeced into another Skinner type of deal.
