The guy gave 2 of of their D $20 million per year for the next 7 years. And their D sucks. Money ain't gonna change that. It will make it worse.

Will he be fired next summer or the summer after that. I am going with next summer lol.

I cant wait until the Sabres go on a bit of tear like they did last year, and the usual suspects go AWOL.

The hope this year is theyve grown enough to not fall too deep into their losing streaks after they lose a bit of momentum. Every team goes through their ups and downs throughout a season. Im more curious to see how theyre looking in a few months both how well theyre playing and how the lineup looks.

Eidt: oh, and learn to win at home and against teams that utilize the trap!

Last year has nothing to do with this season though.

I do agree though that some people are being hyperbolic with their emotions towards the reaction after game 1, but there still remains a spot where one should be disappointed with the team’s first game showing, especially when the players know the level of play they needed to be at.

GMs during a rebuild should have longer leashes, especially at times of scorching earth and building a roster up. I’d say Adams seat shouldn’t be warm just yet but if we’re still talking of poor efforts, heartless performances, and looking at a sub .500 record and we’re in January, his seat should be getting warm.

When we ended the year last year, our near-unanimous needs were:

- Upgrade Joki/Find a new partner for Power
- Find Olofsson a new home/improve defensively at forward
- Get a veteran goalie until Levi is for sure ready

He went 0/3. Yet people still praise him nearly endlessly. Homer optimism is very strong.

Best season in a decade - fact
Top offense (phone isn’t loading to give me specifics but factually varifiable) - fact

Left the same holes - with Levi, Clifton, johnson added to this season that’s an opinion at best outright lie at worst
Four off seasons without attempting to fix - outright lie, no grey area there
Sitting on multiple high value assets and the second most cap room - fact but what’s the point? The conclusion you want to draw that these are negatives is an opinion and 1 not shared by most

RAWR SOMETHING SOMETHING SOMETHING COMPLETE

Posters can praise him in response to BS false narratives, and not be Adams homers.

End of season wishlist for myself was:

-Upgrade assistant defensive coach/PK coach - fail
-Upgrade defensive depth - check
-Do not add any god awful 2+ year contracts - check.

I have pushed back against some of the BS and praised Adams for his patience and given him the benefit of the doubt on there not being any solutions available for acceptable costs, because I have heard several GMs say that exact statement about this offseason.

You can't blame a GM for not making a move if there were no good moves to be made.

Making no moves is much better than making bad moves.

I have also been critical of his loyalties to certain players and coaches and his propensity to avoid making difficult decisions.

Overall I give him a B. In the grand scheme of things, the Sabres could do a whole lot worse (and likely would) if they try to replace him.

I want to remind all posters that any replacement could easily Jim Benning, Mike Milbury or Tim Murray this franchise (again). Please contemplate that before calling for Adams' head.

Adams brought in Johnson and Clifton to give the defense some added depth. Not perfect but we aren't talking about filling a #1 or #2 hole here. And for those positions he got both Dahlin and Power signed to long term deals.

Olofsson upgrade defensively might be a good idea but the tradeoff would be a loss of goals. Again though not talking about a first line player needing replaced.

The three headed goalie situation isn't ideal, but they really don't know what they have in UPL or Comrie yet. Assuming there were veteran goalies available how much of a difference are we talking about?

The holes exist, but this isn't a Stanley Cup contender we are talking about filled with holes, it is a team hoping to get to the playoffs and ideally win a round.

They still need to figure out what they need and if they can make moves to solidify things they have time.

Realistically teams don't just get into the playoffs and boom they are in the Cup finals.

There's a lot of climbing for this Sabres team to go before really worrying about fixing every small problem.

Better be the most desperate team in the next game. Can’t lose already. Can’t lose three in a row.

They’ll match the desperation they see from the front office. And get to it next year. Maybe. But probably not.

Let’s have some real talk about Adams and the job he’s done in four offseasons.

he inherited a team that had a better record the two years before he took over than it did his first two years in office.

his only contribution to the top 4 defense was the top pick in the draft the year a team he oversaw finished last was a defenseman.

he inherited a soon to be vezina winner in net and has never even attempted to find a solid goalie option to replace him walking…opting for the last guy left on the cheapest contract possible every year.

He had to sell Eichel and Reinhart in their primes…which isnt his fault and he did great on the returns…making forward the only place he’s managed to improve the team in FOUR OFFSEASONS outside of Power falling into their laps while Risto had to go.

Quinn went down before day 2 of the draft and free agency opened and he not only didn’t address it AT ALL…but he Left Olofsson there to play. Good lord…you couldn’t do worse and he couldn’t do less.

Think of what it would look like if an 18 year old they were lucky dropped wasn’t their best player when Adams wasn’t even counting on him to play?

There is no accountability on Granato and his staff‘s constant failures on the PK, goalie development or team defense. Everyone just…stay forever!

Is…is the fifth offseason when we start holding him accountable for any of this?

There has been zero effort at defensive center. Zero effort at top 4 D. Zero effort at proven goaltender. It’s year four. FOUR. Hes been on the job for over 1200 days! Over 1200 days to address obvious holes.

He’s good two days a year. Draft days. Thats it. Because he’s the first GM here in forever who listens to his scouts and analytics department. But apparently no one will point out they’ve needed a partner for Owen Power for two f***ing years. Or that Olofsson blows. Or that Bryson is a joke. Or that they need to win a goddamned face off every now and then. Or that the PK is a disaster.

Things that have been true…for over 1200 days.

There is absolutely a lot of truth in your words, it’s strange that others don’t see it or don’t want to see it and continue to make excuses for Adams because of the obvious holes in the lineup.

Normal goalie has never been found. And you can't justify Adams like "It takes two to trade" or "There weren't any good options there." There are always options and I've included a decent list of goalies that have been traded over the years that didn't cost a ton. But we also have assets that Adams isn't using yet.

Top 4 defenseman was needed as soon as Power started playing for the Sabres, some kind of mentor or just a reliable but not flashy defensive defenseman. Not Jokiharju, not old and battered Johnson, especially not Clague or Bryson. Clifton is still completely out of his depth, and Lyubushkin looked much better at the beginning of last season until he was injured.

It is also unclear why the coaching staff is not developing, why they did not add a defensive and PK coach. It doesn’t seem to me that everything is perfect there; there are obvious problems in the organization of the game, especially in defense.

I was hoping that before this season he would do the same thing that the Devils GM did before last season. Will add goalie, top 4 D and maybe some forward for one season while Quinn is injured. The same conventional Tatar would probably be much more interesting than Olofsson with Cozens and Peterka. There may be some low-cost trade with a change of scenery, there are always options in this league. But in the end, Adams didn't do any of that, he just improved the defensive depth, that's all.

High draft choices are based on the ability of them at 18 year olds. So signing them for huge contracts when they are in their early 20's is a perfect guarantee of winning the cup right ? Lots of precedent for that right ?

This whole 'locking up the core' stuff is BS. Just look at Dahlin. Has he learned that in the closing minutes of a tied game that maybe he shouldn't cross check the opposing player in the back ? Hell No. Your only motivational tool for him was $$ and now it's gone.

The bold move here was trading Dahlin. He just is not worth anywhere near that salary and he only wanted to stay in Buffalo if he was payed absurdly. Think about the insane return the Sabres would have gotten in a trade. But it would have taken balls that KA lacks.

Two summers from now KA is gone. Book it lol.

There’s a difference between bold moves and good moves. Worrying about bold moves are actions done by those that just care about ticket sales.

Trading Dahlin would’ve been a terrible move with next to nobody ready to take his minutes.

But glad we can already determine the results of a contract extension that hasn’t even kicked in yet.

As a Leafs fan, I keep an eye on the Sabres because they are very much on the rise. I just wouldn't expect their progress to be even.

My top two picks in my ultra-competitive office hockey pool were Auston Matthews and Tage Thompson. I expect them both to get 100 points this season. So far, so good for Matthews.

I just came here for a clue as to what's happening with Thompson. Maybe he needs a clue as to what's happening this season so far as well, but I'm confident he will get those 100 points this year too. He's too good not to.

Not the time to dump your young stars overboard. They're the Sabres future.

I got a lot of grief for saying trade Tage to Nashville for Saros, Fabbro, Novak, and a 1st

Would have added to our D, given us our starting goalie, a good depth player, and a pick.

Nobody here is OK with making a legit hockey trade, instead only wants to trade spare parts like VO, etc.

The core is what needs to be shaken up. It's as rotten as the Royal Family
