My offseason list for the Sabres were:

1. Add another Top 4 Dman.
2. Add a legit NHL goaltender to handle starting duties for at least 2 years.
3. Add a bottom 6 possession center.
4. Revamp the bottom half of the lineup (forwards and defense) to improve defensive play and PK.

Results so far?

1. Nothing.
2. Nothing.
3. Nothing.
4. Cliffton was a solid 3rd pair signing that helps the PK. Johnson was a solid 5-7 vet signing.

So......still alot of work to do still. By the way, its mostly still the same work that didn't get done last offseason.

Mostly agree, although I like Clifton and think he could be the answer, even though he is not a legit and experienced top 4 D.

Add goalie is required, adding forward would also be a plus. I doubt the third line, especially if VO remains. It is not clear who will be 4C.

We have Krebs Mitts and Jost. Savoie and Kulich are Centers. How many more do you want?

I certainly don't see Kulich playing center in the NHL. He was playing center in Rochester basically due to desperation more than anything else.

Savoie is 50/50.....but if he plays in the NHL this year, I can't see him playing center.

Even if both of those are true, still leaves 3 centers for two positions and players pushing. I don't see why you want or expected a move at center.

Who is our 3C and 4C? Jost with 38% FO? Krebs is probably one of them, if he is not sent to the wing in the top 9.

Given we've waited 3 years for Adams to do something significant about goaltending, sit on your hands summer 2023 is in full swing.

A matchup center that can both win a faceoff, help the PK, and play against the other teams top lines.

No one on the roster or in our prospect group will be filling that role this year.

Mitts Jost Krebs. Maybe if you wanted to sign a 4C I could get behind that.
Jost doesn't look like a good center to me at this stage. I expect Mitts to play in the top 6 in center or on the wing. Krebs remains in the role of 3C or 4C. So I think we need another center, maybe a guy who is good at faceoff and decent on defense and PK.

None of those are lock down possession centers that can win faceoffs, dominate possession, flip the ice, play defense, and play on PK1. Having a bunch of guys on the roster with a C/W designation doesn't mean you have what you need.

They aren't easy to find.

They are impossible to find when you don't even look.
Well we don't know if he looked or not.

I wanted a 4c, I wanted Acciari (signed 3yrs). I wanted Bjugstad (2yrs). I wanted Eller (2yrs). Thought one of them would've been great additions, but it takes 2 to tango, term could've been an issue for KA, the players could've seen a better opportunity elsewhere.

I still hope Jost is 13F, but we'll know when the big picture is complete in a couple months.

Aren't we still in the offseason, or have I woken up and it's October?
Sure, but there is alot of work to do, especially given the draft trading period and initial UFA push are in the rearview, and this management staff has not shown the ability to fill these holes in the past through trades.

To those who lament Clifton wasn’t a top-4 d-man...

MacAvoy Lindholm and Carlo are a better combined threesome at this point in their careers than Power Dahlin Samuelsson. I’m not concerned about Clifton on BUF.
I'm not concerned about Clifton, he was a great third pairing pickup that can play the PK. One of the needs we had filled with a good appropriate player. Now for a top 4 dman, starting Goalie, and bottom six possession center.

Well for starters, trades require two teams to agree; not just 1 random fan. Even worse is acquiring bigger names may require NTCs to be waived and it seems our target of Pesce may have said no to us. If the player doesn’t want to come here we can’t force him at gun point. Additionally some players we might want may not even be up for sale like Tanev and Saros. If they aren’t on the trading block, acquiring them becomes borderline impossible/idiotic depending on if they give some absurd demand.

Orlov pushed Clifton out of the top 4.
Grzelcyk and Forbort pushed him out of the top 6.

I'm glad we signed Clifton, he's a surefire upgrade to our bottom pairing, but he's a pretty big question mark to be a true top 4.

It was only in the playoffs, maybe he did not have a game, a small sample. But in the regular season, he played almost as much as Carlo.

Clifton and Grzelcyk were rotating in and out of the lineup during the playoffs. Clifton played games 1, 2 and 6.
