Lol why? .. I guarantee absolutely nothing changes. You just don't lose Karmanos to another team.
If nothing changes, why would Karmanos let a meaningless change in title keep him here? A little more scratch? There's always one guy in the room with final say and I imagine all these guys aspire to sit in that chair, no matter what it's called.

Neither of them is getting fired if we miss the playoffs unless it’s an absolute implosion and the building empties again.

I just don't see 2 years of upswing going away if at the end of next year they are again close or even if they suffer through some glut of injuries which seemed to not be a thing this past year. Now if they do something unprofessional? Sure. But I just don't see some push to move on from them as they've brought them to the threshold of being a playoff team.

Gotta love them in Rochester, asking all the right questions:

"what's your message here to a fan that may believe that missing out on the post season makes last season a failure?"
KA: (awkward laugh followed by his standard answer)

(regarding Savoie playing) "ultimately is this Seth Apperts decision?"
KA: "Yeah, well we talk everyday, I mean philosophically from the way we do things as an organization, we talk all the time about everything......."

"tell us about the decision not to have UPL on the clear day roster?
KA: "yeah, you know it is something we talked about a little bit internally......." (went on to praise Subban)

"...rumors always circulating this time of year one of them that is particulary juicy is the Sabres potentially trading for a goalie, I'm more curious about whether or not the blueline is a priority for you this offseason?"
KA: "yeah, so obviously we went through a lengthy kind of end of the season post mortem and recap........" (also praised current D).
"we actually have meetings that started today and then our amateur meetings tomorrow that run through friday night.

(They also asked about trading for a goalie)
KA: (praised all his goalies). "We'll go into this offseason, we'll look at all different scenarios, in my opinion we're in a position where we don't have to chase anything, if something makes sense we'll look at it, like we would at any position and we will make the right decision for the Buffalo Sabres."

(Asked about hindsight could they have done something to keep the talent on the ice for the Sabres that was traded away)
KA: "We're so far past that, I don't spend much time reflecting or thinking about it..." (also mentioned timing didn't match up)

"Last one, our expectations are raised for the Buffalo Sabres next year; are you good with that Kevyn?"
KA:
"I'm good, yeah. I think that is a good thing. I get asked that question a lot. Certainly there's pressure on the way we do things here to take a step, but I have said before, and I will say it again is that no pressure outside of our walls will match what we believe internally in terms of the expectations we have, so I'm good with it, I think it is an exciting time to be a Sabres and Amerk fan....."

So really...there's no point in asking KA any questions.

They also asked Adams:

"A byproduct of success is seeing good people leave the organization for better opportuinities elsewhere, it isn't lost on us when we spend a lot of time talking about the great job that Seth Appert has done, we know the good job Jason Karmanos has done. They've been spectacular in their roles. They will certainly have options this offseason. What do you do in your role to ensure that the next man up continues to build on all the momentum you've built now with the franchise?"

KA: (talks about success and happy that employees have the opportunity to be promoted).
also: "In my mind I always have a depth chart, if certain people leave here's how you would back fill it"

So really...there's no point in asking KA any questions.
I mean, what do they expect him to say?

"Yea, we really need a 2nd pair D, like badly, so hopefully now that I have put this out there someone will bend me over the table when I try to trade for one"

KA keeping stuff close to the chest is a good thing imo. Even if I personally would like more info.

Adams should get into politics.

I don't really expect anything particular from KA in any interview. It's clear KA won't give anything interesting so I'm not sure why these interviewers even bother.

As a side note though, anyone willingly going into an interview setting might want to have more than just typical corporate babble non-speak. It's just a pet peeve of mine. I prefer people to say, "I'm not going into detail about that, but this is what I will discuss for your show". That's a very minor issue though compared to what I hope KA can do for the franchise.

Having seen a little bit of these things in another interviewing venue, they do tend to send out communication beforehand asking what the person wants to talk about and what they won't talk about.

If people wanted to listen for themselves.

I think Brandon Beane of the Buffalo Bills does a good job of this. He doesn’t give away inside info or anything like that, but I always come away appreciating his insights into what went into moves/draft picks etc.

The big difference between this conversation with Adams and conversations like that with Beane is the before and after timeframes.

Adams, and others like Forton, are more open after things like the trade deadline and the draft than they are before the off season kicks off.

Beane is much the same way, like when he said pre-draft that he was likely to move back.

But Beane was telling the truth when he said he was likely to move back, the embedded episode showed him on the phone making contingency plans. He didn’t think Kincaid would be there.

KA just doesn’t give any info. Not that it’s bad, but listening to him just isn’t particularly interesting (to me).

The above is a condensed and editorialized version of the recent interview. Thats not a shot at @Jacob582 btw, he would be writing a novel if he tried to pass on everything. I mention it because in Adams longer interviews you can gain some interesting information on a few topics. But I agree there can be a decent amount of filler.

Some examples of interesting tidbits (to me at least) from his interview on WGR not too long ago.

1) When talking about upgrading the defense he mentioned they weren’t concerned about handedness. Then talked about internal research they did on the subject supporting this thinking.

2) In the convo about goaltending he talk about using 3 goalies. That it wasn’t ideal but he wanted to talk with Bales about this feasibility and how to make it work.

There were other things but these give the general idea of what I mean.

Well thankfully GMKA didn't end up trading Tage for a 5th round pick to the Leafs as he alledgley agreed to with Dubas.

I'm not trying to sound like a smart arse with this response, but those two points are just about the same as saying sometimes bacon and eggs are better for breakfast, and sometimes pancakes are. Those are issues that depend on other changing variables, so it's really not that interesting to me because we all know it depends on current team needs or which exact player they might be discussing or scouting. I'm not depending on that level of detail though, and that's why KA interviews are not interesting to me - because it won't be there.

Fair enough

Source on that? I know there was a rumor a Sabres GM had Thompson available for cheap at some point. I've always assumed this was Adams since there wasn't really a clear point of Thompson bottoming out under GMJB.

Thankfully, that came from a fake Twitter account. Maybe you heard ATW repeat it today, which was a bizarre oversight.

There was a rumor over the winter that such a deal with a mystery team almost happened at an indeterminate point in the past, but nothing firm.

The most likely time was probably around the Seattle expansion draft. It was post TT's underwhelming season under Krueger and before he signed a 3 year deal. Before that he was either injured or it was far too early to be giving up on him since he was the big prospects from the RoR deal.
