I worry for people who don't have a "hard-on" for fiala, at this point I am willing to break up the GREEF line to keep him. Maybe keep Ek and trade away Greenway and even Foligno and whoever else needs to go to make room.

Does Wahlstrom and NYI 1st land Fiala?

And what would the contract be?

with around just $8.2 million in cap space and having only 17 contracts for next sason. Fiala is a RFA with arbitration rights and a year from UFA. If you are budgeting around $7 million for Fiala, that leaves them $1.2 million for the other 5 roster spots. So, to keep him, they need to free up $3 million (Net or replacing a roster spot) in cap space at a minimum to fit Fiala and get the rest of the roster filled out. (but one of those roster spots is a backup goalie to Talbot and how cheap can Minny go with that?)

Given what they have on the books, probably either Dumba gets moved or a combination of Foligno & Kulikov/Jost at a minimum need to get moved.

I would say no, not currently. NYI 1st isn’t high enough. For a two asset trade Fiala easily commands a top 10 pick, and Wahlstrom doesn’t make up the difference.

I wouldn’t be a fan but probably. Not a huge Wahlstrom guy though. Just based on the history of these types of moves I think it probably gets it done though

I would hope not, personally. A pick in the low teens and a prospect I don't see much in. Just guessing on the contract- 7/53M?

What , if anything , do the Devils have that would interest the Wild for Fiala?
All sorts of things. A low 2022 draft pick, Mercer, Holtz. Can't take back big salary, obviously. Biggest needs are high end RHD (Nemec?), C's, then RHS wings. Don't need depth players.
MN has a lot of nice LHD prospects which can be thrown in to a deal, although a lot depends on whether Guerin decides to re-sign Middleton this summer. Lambos is probably not available, but ROR, Peart, and Hunt (in that order of value).

Just realized that you have Like Hughes - duh.

If Guerin decides to keep Fiala then Dumba will probably have to go due to cap. He would obviously be cheaper to acquire, but is a good top 4 RHD, which would help you even if you pick a Nemec/Jiricek in the draft.

Russo just said on his Athletic live stream that unless things have dramatically changed this season, everything he was hearing points them having already made the decision to trade Fiala this offseason

the next 3 yrs they have balloon buyout dead space on their cap.

they want to move Fiala and Dumba for similar players who are on cheap contracts/ELCs

because both are 1 yr to UFA, teams are concerned on the ask fir a rental or the costs to resign. Then on the top resigning, many GMs don’t want to do long 7+ yr contracts. In this cap world ELCs/ low contracts are very valuable.

ideally Would like to get players starting their ELC or 1 yr into the ELC or 2 yr in thst they feel they could sign to under $2M bridge contract

Well I don’t think he deserves 8M+. So if that’s what he wants, he’s going to have to get it elsewhere.

But that’s also severely going to shrink the trade market for him, because I don’t see a lot of teams wanting him at > 8M on a long term deal. I think he’s more of a 7M—7.25M guy.
I think you need to look at his production and what other first line wingers have gotten recently. He’s been utterly dominant, there is no way he settles for less than 8

The Wild should just keep him. The guy has constantly come through when they've needed him to. I highly doubt they could acquire a better forward trading him. Trading away what has been a position of weakness for the Wild for so long (a ppg forward) for anything less than an upgrade would be a shame.

Yikes, a top 10 pick and a 3rd rounder isn't enough? Fair enough, I thought it would be.
3rd rounder would be used to move from 8th to 7th, not much value as an added piece for a star 25 year old.

I’d gladly offer 7th/8th + one of our 2nd tier prospects in Thomson/JBD/Boucher, though I’m sure the Sens would value them more than I.

Sure, I think I'd prefer Boucher or JBD, but that's fine. I thought a 7/8 would be ok with a 3rd, but if I'm off, I'm off, let's consummate this deal!

Was reading somewhere Guerin appeared on radio and said wild can keep both fiala and dumba? Is it possible he already knows dumba is taking a discount? Is it true he appeared on radio?

No idea. I don't listen to the shows that he'd be on. If he did, I'd say that it would be 70/30 that it was just GM speak.
