Kopitar has never been a true 1c. He is an elite 2nd line defensive center.
Beside the missing production, he has no drive or will to win at all.
The Kings won the cup 2 times because out of nowhere a 2nd line with Toffoli, Carter and Pearson appeared and scored 30 goal seasons.

Fiala seems to be a slow starter.

Maybe MN should wait closer to the trade deadline to help the trade value.

He is a slow starter. Part of it comes from it taking time every year for the coaching staff to actually give him linemates. His most common linemates this year have been Freddy Gaudreau and Victor Rask.

Fiala is not cheaper. Getting a top 6 C for a wing is a lofty expectation.
Feel like it wouldn't be a deal, but the reasons you outlined seem odd.
Minnesota can add. But Minnesota has matt boldy, Adam Beckman, and connor dewar in Iowa as Winger. So any fiala trade would be to get better down the middle

Most fans aren’t expecting that. He’s not a rental. He’s just unlikely to stay with us for cap reasons. Still don’t see him getting traded this year.

The one year commitment and Guerin’s comments led me to believe there was some behind the scenes stuff. Is that incorrect?
Oh, I thought you meant Rust. Yeah, there is some smoke with Fiala. Very demanding come contract time, can make some bonehead plays and take bad penalties. Sort of like a temperamental F1 driver/rock star.

Yeah, figured Guerin’s connection with Rust and his leadership ability may be something more attractive.
I will riot if we trade Fiala for Rust. We have got more than enough "leadership" guys. We need talent that can break games. That's what Fiala provides when he's on.

Honestly one of the dumbest takes I have ever seen on HF, I really hope this is sarcasm.
Fiala situation is probably kinda similar to Buchnevich one. His team loves him, but just doesn't have enough cap space for him, and has some very good youngsters to plug into the roster.
Fiala still can be traded and then signed by his new team, exactly what STL did with Buch.

Seems fair. Although Fiala and Rust aren’t that far apart in terms of offensive impact. Obviously Fiala is doing more with less at C in Minnie though.
