Not with me. Cause after Dach is signed, we are over the cap. I guess they can run with 21 man roster to start the year to be cap compliant.

Or Hughes is not worried about his ability to move a contract. Cause right now, cap flexilibty from what he said before has not been accomplished. It don't add up so what they tell us is not really what's going on
I am sure he means that he would use the cap space for acquisitions next season or later, not now.

That's why the Price and Gallagher contracts aren't that big of an issue.

We'll likely have a bunch of guys on ELCs druing that time anyway.

Yeah, but Price's contract might get added to that.
With Petry it's 23M....if Price can't keep up this season, we might get around 33 millions available which should be fun considering, as you said, a bunch on players on the team will still be on their ELC

Gorton is probably helping and Segwick, the cap wizard, is AGM and managing the Rocket (who got most of the signing so far).
Would be interesting to know exactly what Gorton was doing yesterday but they didn't get much accomplished so who knows. With Bergevin, I got the sense that there were several of his staff who were involved in discussing trades and free agents (where they did a good job in my opinion). Hopefully if Hughes realizes he needs more support they will try to add experienced people.

Most GM's also don't have Gorton overseeing pretty much all of drafting and developpment though
All kinds of structures across the league, but believe all the gm's need support. And Hughes is still learning to be a gm, hope that he realizes if he's getting over his head and needs some help, beyond his boss.

He is not a UFA. He is an RFA. There is a difference.

The Jets qualified him. So he is still property of the Jets. He can choose to go play in Europe if he wants. But he will remain property of the Jets.

Puljujarvi left for Europe when he was an RFA. He was still property of the Oilers.

Habs qualified Leskinen last year, so they retained his rights, even if he went to play in Europe. He came back and at the moment he was signed by the Habs, he could ONLY sign with Montreal. The only way he would have been able to sign with another team was if Habs didn't qualify him this year, which would make him a UFA and he can sign with any team he wants.

What you're talking about Jets matching is if he is tendered an offer sheet. But Jets get the opportunity to match because as I said, he is property of the Jets.

Most of this is just false.

Qualifying an RFA allows you to hold the rights to match an offersheet. That's pretty much it.

Leskinen could have discussed and signed with any team in the league. We just have the right to match.

Why would Montreal do that? They don't get cap relief, have worse long term contracts and get far off picks.
That cracks me up loll

not that I like the proposal but … why do you think there’s a first and second included here ?

Not much difference between JVR/Risto vs Anderson/Petry imo… some could argue that the Philly duo is more valuable besides the salaries … why on earth would they add first and second if we’re the one saving money ? Lol

Even at equal salary this a proposal with a clear advantage to montreal lol and yet here you are playing hardball like JVR+Risto+1st+2nd foooor Anderson and Petry loll is a proposal that favors Philly lol wth

It will but then who else is getting a raise? Romanov was traded. Dach gets what? 2 or 3 year bridge?

The cap space we gain after this season is about Caufield and then flexibility moving forward as the youth moves through their ELC. Hopefully not for UFA's who are late 20's or 30+
Sure, and others too......but that's only what we know for now.
I still expect some other movement like Armia, maybe Anderson or Dvorak too.

And there's the Price situation to add to this
Just meant to point out we won't have the full margin, plus we have whatever we sign Dach for + Harris as well next year, though it shouldn't be that high (depending on how he looks this year).

We'll have way more flexibility for sure next season, hopefully Hughes remembers a thing or two about yesterday and leverages it to get free assets on the cheap like the Canes are seemingly perpetually able to do.

Dude, Ben's has been closed down for ages. Like for well over a decade.
Among the surviving old joints, you have wall space for visiting celebs at Schwartz’s and The Montreal Poolroom. There are a few more but used to like Ben’s, was always open.

And why do you have the right to match an offer sheet? Is it maybe because you have the rights to the player?

It's simple. It's not PLD who decides he's no longer a Winnipeg Jet. It's the Winnipeg Jets that decide he's no longer a Winnipeg Jet.

Agreed. And I am sure that Hughes would be looking for UFA's under 25 in the next 2 or 3 years.

Got to trade for them. UFA's don't happen until age 26/27 usually. If someone starts at age 18, they could be UFA at 25 but that's rare.

I don't believe the new CBA changed anything right? 7 RFA years or age 27, whichever comes first?

Yeah but it's bad business to pay someone for what they did, you pay them for what they're going to do. Bergevin didn't understand that.
Who knew that Gally would be injured so often ? It could happen to any players, young or older.

I think your info or context is more fake.

Qualifying RFA's holds the rights. Offer sheets can happen but it's deeper than that. You either go to arbitration where dates are set for deadlines or you sign before the arbitration date cause there is a mutual agreement. If no mutual agreement, the arbitrator decides based on past production

I know but why would a season-ticket holder show up to see a losing team ice a sub-NHL lineup? There is a fine line between trying and not being good enough and icing a crappy team and charging full price.
This is a fair question. Easy to say fans should be patient, but how can a business sell patience?

The good news is that fans will go if the team is marketed correctly. Focus on the young stars of tomorrow and what's being built. Sports is all about hope. I'd watch kids developing, even if they lose, because next season will be better. Better than watching a weak roster of vets that isn't going anywhere.

6.5 million for a guy who won’t even sniff close to 50 pts is a massive massive problem

In the short term, it doesn't matter because we're not competing.

And what will it realistically prevent us from doing in 2025-2026 when we're 20 million under the cap and have like 6 guys on ELCs?

He keeps saying they don't have to trade Petry but at some point he'll have to. Not sure having Petry around in October, November, December while his wife and kids are still in the States is the type of thing we want around the team this year. Other GMs know this.
