??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

You can't be serious????????????????????

"Who would be your number 1? Barkov?"

"Yeah"
He said “someone like that. To be in that upper echelon of 1 or 2, you have to win. Barkov hasn’t done that.” He was talking about being a complete player. But whatever, you have your agenda.

You're making it worse dude. Someone LIKE Barkov? OK, so...like, Barkov. But also any other the other players comparable to him? That's more insane. So he'd take Barkov and several other players? McDavid hasn't won either. So for some idiotic reason he apparently has a lot of players over McDavid?

He prefers the safe archetype to the generational talent because the generational talent scores too much.

Your agenda of defending Tortorella against his own words and actions is a Sisyphean task. All I do is tell the truth. What he has done. What he is doing. What he is saying, and if it matches his actions. This value system he expressed in that interview? We just saw it in action when he preferred a 4th-line level offensive producer over Frost. It continues with his urge to backfill the team like an overflowing septic tank from the bottom up. Get more skill and let it trickle down the roster? f*** no! He wants to get 10-12 goal PK specialists.

No, he wants McDavid to play a team game, play both end of the ice. This is how ALL coaches look at it.

Sidney does, McKinnon does, Toews did, Kopitar did.
When your best player is the hardest worker and the most responsible, teammates come along for the ride.
It's called "leadership."
Jalen Hurts is a good example.

No, he’s gotten better at it, particularly this year. But this segment is what, over a year old?

He was doing it a year ago, too. But he didn't grind hard along the boards so I guess just picking the puck and skating away doesn't count in Tortorella's book. Too fancy. Too skilled.

He was actually better defensively last season relative to his teammates. Tortorella acts like the guy is Malkin at his worst, and he isn't. He plays perfectly tolerable defense. He pairs that with generational offensive production. And Tortorella takes "guys like Barkov" over the dude who is far and away the most net-positive team player the sport has seen in two decades?

You're making him seem like a far bigger idiot than I originally thought.

This is making my brain hurt. There’s no way Tortorella comes out of here looking good for those comments.

Cool, he wants someone to play a “complete game” and prefers that to McDavid. Moronic.

Yeah, we were wrong to limit it to just wanting Barkov over McDavid. He'd take numerous players over him. We've been giving him too much credit. He's dumber than we thought.

Or maybe it's just he'd like McDavid more if he worked harder on defense and to win games instead of just scoring - you can score and do other things as well.

When you're the most talented player in the game, surrounded by high 1st rd picks, to what extent do you bear responsibility when your team consistently fails to play up to its talent?

Cool, like him more but he’s still better than Barkov as is.

That’s how he builds teams. He doesn’t appreciate or care for what McDavid can do.

It’s moronic.

He appreciates what McDavid can do, he just wants more.
Gretzky was a great scorer, but he also was the leader on great teams.
The point of the game isn't to score but to win.

McDavid posts better defensive stats than MacKinnon, so there goes that sterling theory.

McDavid plays the most team game imaginable. If he doesn’t score 3 points/game, his team loses. “Is McDavid the best player in the NHL?” isn’t up for debate. Anything but a simple “yes,” anything with caveats, is the wrong answer. John Tortorella is proudly defiantly wrong.

Connor McDavid helps you win more games than Barkov does.

The fabled “leader” bullshit. Everyone is a shitty leader until their team wins. Nevermind the fact that you have no idea what type of leader he is.

This is dumb. McDavid, Draisatl, and RNG are not to blame for the near complete lack of depth outside of them.

McDavid wildly outscores his opposition. He is not Malkin. He plays defense. You should not defend everything anyone with any tie to the team does.

Tortorella would take Slavin over Makar too. It’s just who he is. We don’t need psychoanalysis. There’s a right way to play hockey. And that’s playing a hard game, an honest game; it’s almost gotten too showman.
Actually, he probably wouldn't, because Makar is pretty responsible defensively and doesn't shy away from contact.
He would take Spurgeon over Ghost, however. ;)
