It's one of the more tone deaf marketing campaigns I've seen in a long time. Most fans are going to be like WTF?! Just a horrifically bad idea. You'd have to be in your very late 50's to 60's and on up to remember the last Flyers championship, and the game isn't even remotely the same. Most people I talk to are sick to death of the bullies bullshit. So let's just heap more of it on and insult the intelligence of your fanbase. So incredibly stupid.

Everyone in my family, including everyone in that age range, is thoroughly done with the Flyers and sick of their obsession with a long-dead past. I'm the only one actively following them anymore, which is nuts because some of them were even deeper than I am. I'm tasked with letting them know when it's worth following again.

This goes back to hiring Torts, on what appears to have been, largely on the basis of his reputation and marketable cliches.

Tortorella = anger and yelling = he's taking no bullshit = accountability = improvement. It all makes for easy press conference answers and lazy social media content.

What's funny is, I see these 3 as a very "Mother Goose" strategy of a triumvirate

Torts is too hot, Briere is too cold, and they think Jonesy is *just right* temperature of porridge to balance the personalities.

Hilferty definitely says "a new error of orange", as well.
Let the Reign of Error begin.

this season is going to be such a clusterf*** of grinders and face punchers getting signed and tire pumped by this bunch..

hello 8th in Metro...
I don't have a problem with 8th in the Metro. They need to actually tank for a year and get it right for once. I guess the 'taking off' image is better than a Sherman Tank rolling through the arena parking lot...

I'm going to keep rolling my eyes everytime something like this gets trotted out.

"He's spouting the same old cliches, but now its on 6abc/the radio/wherever! Such impressive communications! The fans/season ticket holders/sponsors are really getting sold on that New Era of Orange™."

@GKJ

Holy shit, they did it. They got a Flyers "player" on 6ABC!

Every time Jones does a PR stunt, it is a reminder that Hilferty and Camillo seriously think that these type of engagements are going to get fans and sponsors interested in the team.

A meaningless fluff piece on 6abc means nothing. No tickets will be sold because of this. No meaningful excitement will be generated.

We based the hiring of our President on this kind of thing.

And they think they can waste the position on this because they are certain there is nothing wrong with all the people currently in charge.

Make no mistake, there is a portion of the fanbase that will eat this propaganda up and get back on board.

Anyone who is going to eat up this propaganda would have eaten it up regardless.

We could have continued posting Tortorella cliche montages on Twitter instead of making it the basis of our PoHO's duties.

I’m old enough to remember the time that people celebrated and knocked Zito for the Panthers getting swept in the second round last year.

Maybe let’s stop building narratives over small sample sizes.
Zito is the luckiest person in the NHL this year. If Bob wasn't having the playoff run of his career, they'd never have made it through the first round.
And he only got to the playoffs b/c Lyon had the best two weeks of his career.
Which just proves the adage: "better to be lucky than good."

This reminds of the Flyers in 2009-10 who rode a hot Leighton to the finals until he cooled off, or the Habs riding Price to the finals a couple years ago.

I thought all the good goaltending was gone?

It's a lot, LOT, easier for a team to be "lucky" when they are good and competently managed overall. Hence why bad teams like the Flyers never get lucky.

The Flyers didn't ride a hot Leighton. They carried Leighton. Boucher played 12 games lol.

Did I touch a nerve?

Also, the Flyers did not ride a hot Leighton. Pure fantasy.

Was Leighton good? Sure. Did they ride him/he carry them? No, not even close.

Back on board? Those clowns that eat this shit up have never left. They are the ones posting on their social media accounts letting other people know they are "true fans because they support the team no matter what"

Yes, there was a segment of people that were fed up but this bullshit is exactly what they were looking for and they’re eating it up.
