I’m telling you - they want a Bryce Harper type move. They will offer him anything he wants.

Oh I believe it because I don't believe a word about what these people are selling. They're not rebuilding and they're not going to build it the "right way" because they don't know what the right way is.

They want to get it back to being the "real Flyers" and that's thinking that you can win by outspending everyone else so it fits exactly what they're going to do to a T.

Now Matthews won't want anything to do with Philadelphia but that's a whole other thing.

There is a difference between the Flyers way of chasing every single big name, aging free agent and player on the trade block, versus a rebuilding team signing a 26 year old 1C.

Let's not fool ourselves into thinking that signing Auston Matthews in 2024 would be bad thing

This is true. Not often a player of Matthews ability, and only 26, becomes available.

I’m all for bringing elite talent, but it would just be so Flyers to make a max contract for a player likely soon to see a decline.
This “rebuild” will be such a farce imo.

I remember reading this same exact sentiment on this forum about hypothetically signing 27 year old John Tavares. 5 years later he is still a PPG player.

What other elite talent are you "all for" bringing in that is going to be further from their decline than a 26 year old Matthews? Sure, I want a 20 year old McDavid too.

Not that any of this matters. Matthews isn't coming here.

Geez, all I pointed out that based on xGA/60, the Flyers weren't a terrible defense, which implies that some of the blame for Hart's performance belongs to Hart.

And people jump down my throat. Some of you need a life.

I would sign him, not saying I wouldn’t.

I just would find it funny to see their golden piece of the rebuild be a UFA signing. This team couldn’t draft their own superstar if their collective lives depended on it.

The point being, it’s hard to build a contender when you constantly are paying premium for actual talent. Which is a Flyer DNA trait just as much as those big bad bully pigs.

Just because you're obsessed with offense . . . sorry that NJ, Edmonton and Toronto couldn't advance with all their skilled playmakers. :eek3:

The Flyers' rebuild is currently close to being measured on a geological scale, so 8 years in the future is nothing.

I think when a metor hits the Earth in about 2300 years and human are extinct and reptiles rule the land and sea for about 3 million years and then mammals evolve again after another mass extinction event....Flyers rebuild should be complete....

They'll finally stop being 2 years away from being 5 years away, and just be 5 years away

You know what is a good defense? Having a strong skilled puck possession team. If you have the puck the other team can’t score.
But then we would not lead the league in hits and blocked shots. Cannot have that in Philadelphia

I can see it now
Danny calls up Matthews agent and asks would your client be interested in coming to Phila….. click.

Not having to defend is infinitely better than needing to defend.

What makes a strong skilled possession team?
Watching the playoffs, a big part of that is a physical forecheck that's able to maintain the cycle and keep the puck in the O-zone.

It's actually "ability to play hockey good" more than anything. So the opposite of what the Flyers build for.

You also sound like you're describing hockey from 2013 and 2014, so are you sure you're watching this year's playoffs?
