JMO but I don’t believe that Hart will be much more than an average goaltender. His inconsistency is bothersome. Perhaps it’s his inexperience or the lousy defense that has been in front of him. However he doesn’t seem to be able to elevate his game at critical moments in the game the way that elite goalies can.
The bar is so low and the fans so desperate in Philly for a top level goalie that as soon as one flashes a few good games, the response is that they think that they have him. I just don’t see Hart as ever being in the top echelon of goalies in the game.

I guess you missed the 2020 playoffs. No, he is not able to elevate his game enough to cover for the horrible roster that Fletcher and co. have assembled for 62 games. But he's already proven that if he has a competent team around him that he can be elite. If he goes to a team that doesn't bleed scoring chances left and right, he will find his groove. Just look at this season. He was an elite goaltender for his first 20 or so games but he couldn't bail the team out forever. You could put Oettinger or any other goalie in the NHL in net for the Flyers currently and they would also look inconsistent with the trash on the ice in front of them.

Flyers were 16th in xGA/60 at ES, 26th on the PK. Florida was worse (22nd, 16th)
So while mediocre, the Flyers weren't terrible on defense.

Carolina was 1st and 6th - maybe there is a "Flyer's way?"

im thinking they will probably sign some big names when they had cap space in a few years. but just not overpaying them like the hurricanes because at least they dont perform in the playoffs, you can get out of them easily and not be stuck with them like the maple leafs.

The Flyers shouldn't be compared to those teams in any context.

Weird flex about the offense thing since Florida (1st in NHL) and Carolina (3rd) had a higher xGF/60 than NJ (4th) and Toronto (5th). Weird that they were the last four teams in the Eastern Conference playoffs. I'm sure that's completely coincidental.

I'm not an economist but I don't think that four teams can advance to a round in the playoffs where only two teams remain.

Herein is part of the problem. He won one series in the funkiest of PO situations ever for the NHL and then lost to the Isles. Not overly impressive. As I said before the bar for goalie play in Philly is low. Is Hart better than Neuvirth, Stolarz, bad Mason and the others? Sure but he's not in the upper tiers for goalie play and doesn't look like he will be.
SSS but Ersson looked as good, if not better, this season behind the same lousy defense. If you want to hang on to Hart and give him a bigger contract than this one when it runs out, have at it. I'm not so sure that I would. I'd be open to moving him out if a quality offer came across the table.
