their idea of modernizing is going balls deep into 1970s BSBs style retro hockey..Even if you want to modernize, that isn't happening without firing Tortorella. Which they aren't doing. They're doing the opposite and over-empowering him. So they are either lying or have no idea what they're doing. Or both.
Tbf, i did take some good points from what i heard. The morale in that building supposedly being way better is objectively a good sign; i feel like it's probably safe to assume that Fletcher (aside from just being bad at his job) was probably checked out and didn't want to deal with this organization anymore, not that i could blame him.
The part from ASF about them claiming that they actually do have some awareness about needing to modernize the Flyers' game... that got my attention for sure. Whether or not they're actually capable of doing that obviously remains to be seen, as does clarification on what their vision of "modern hockey" is.
Not that i'm slurping the Comcast cock like some of the Authentics have been, but i also can't be anywhere near as outraged as some of you are right now. I need to see what phase one of this thing is actually gonna look like; what the Hayes and Provy trades are gonna look like, and who else gets moved out. I'm actually starting to think that what they do at 7 isn't as important as the players they trade and what they get in return. Because let's be honest here, they're probably gonna reach for a need/"culture fit" at 7 and i'm not saying i don't blame them, but there's clearly a drop-off after Bedard/Fantilli/Carlsson/Smith/Michkov, and hell, only 4 of those 5 aren't massive risks. Whoever they take at 7 is whatever honestly, but can Briere actually win a f***ing trade though? I forgot what a Flyers GM winning a trade even looks like.
They need to do everything well, not perfectly, mistakes are inevitable (Sakic taking Jost with #10, for example), but your good moves need to outnumber your mistakes - something we haven't seen for over a decade.I dont know how you can be so dismissive of the 7th overall pick in a great draft. Youre buying too much into the "drop off" narrative. There will be a lot of great options at 7 and its extremely important they make a good pick there. Unless Briere goes more scorched-Earth then he's letting on, there's a good chance they pick a bit later than 7 next season thanks to Couturier alone.
So this team's plan is to make the best second round pick in NHL history?
Genius. Just pick better. Why didn't Charles Entertainment Fletcher think of that.
(I don't follow the NFL, I don't know how accurate what Jones said was)
You don’t ignore the fluff. You look at the fluff and concoct fantasy tales out of them.I ignore the fluff.

Tyrone Johnson is the worst of the worst. He thinks that he’s god’s gift to earth.Seemed like Tyrone Johnson was angry that Keith Jones went to 94WIP for his interview instead of the station with the Flyers Radio Broadcast rights.
A Keurig?? That is the Michigan of coffee makers, Beef. The Flyers believe in an honest effort to make coffee, that takes labour and diligence and effort. They pour their grains into a pot and boil it over a fire in an oil drum.New Keurig must be on order.
It's almost like Jones hasn't got a friggin' clue what he's doing. It's the D, gotta improve the D. I mean, with Risto, D'Angelo and Seeler, you have three of the worst D in the league. I would hope they roll them back out again to aid in #Tank2024LetTheCelebriniBegin!Meanwhile, no 2nd round pick in 2023. Last pick of the 2nd round in 2024 as compensation for JOB.
Oh and because of how many different positions there are in football, its impossible to compare the NFL Draft to NHL Draft.
Also they havent changed out any of the scouts responsible for almost never hitting on any picks after the 1st round.
What do you want it to be? It's probably easier for me to just do it then to explain how to do it.It's almost like Jones hasn't got a friggin' clue what he's doing. It's the D, gotta improve the D. It's worrisome that the entire strategy seems to be "we'll pull a Hurts out of the late round of the NHL draft, because no other team is trying to do that and despite the fact we have no record of success doing it."
Good grief, they hired a hockey commentator, and a mediocre one, to run the team. #FlyersCupIn2035!
EDIT: I can't seem to be able to change #FireChucklesNow on my avatar, anyone know how to do that? Thanks in advance.
And if these don't happen, will you actually say so? Or will you defend till the end like you have done with Fletch? They need to do everything well, not perfectly, mistakes are inevitable (Sakic taking Jost with #10, for example), but your good moves need to outnumber your mistakes - something we haven't seen for over a decade.
If there is no great player at #7, you still need to get a top 6 forward or top 4 D-man, not a middle six forward or bottom 3 type.
They also need to hit on one or two players the rest of the draft, especially if they add picks in trades.
They need to get a good return from Provorov and Laughton, and something decent from Hayes.
They need to nail a low cost FA or two and flip them at the TDL.
They need to free up cap room and use it to garner assets from cap strapped contenders.
Sakic made a mistake, so he's exactly like Briere who will make many.
Sakic and Yzerman were as inexperienced as Briere when they took over.It is just a lazy confirmation bias cop out, Sakic = Briere just like Zito = Fletcher "because of that one thing I point to". Same as Tortorella = Cooper. Just lazy, based on one confirmation thingy
Keith Jones is the King of HockeyGuy cliches and focusing on having a "good blueline" first and foremost. It's harder to be out more than I already am, but if this means another year of trotting out Provorov as the 1D and watching him go through the motions as his contract slowly starts to expire, just take me to the loony bin. Take another defenseman in the top half of the draft again too. It's worked out so well.
