The new STG is totally buying into the propaganda.
-ASF made out the grandiose press conference (being on the floor of the Wells Fargo Center with the scoreboard dropped down) as an attempt to "connect with the city" because the Flyers have become so irrelevant. He says they could never do something like that under the previous regime because Fletcher was "disconnected from the city" and cited how he got booed by the season ticket holders. (None of this adds up. Fletcher got booed because he was a bad GM + No fan cares about the location of a press conference)
- Briere and Jonesy have both told ASF that more front office changes are coming in the next few months
-ASF think Olczyk really thought he was going to get the job.
.-Camillo emphasized "collaboration" across the organization. It is so obvious that they were scarred by the Provorov Pride jersey stuff.
-Camillo also said they'd "have their shit together" and that Danny is "smart as hell," which I can't help but roll my eyes at. Russ was drooling last podcast over how the New Era of Orange press release said "work your ass off." The "Look how serious and blue collar we are, we are using curse words!" thing is so cringy.
-ASF talked down Tulsky because he has no experience as a GM and implied that the hype for Tulsky is only because he used to be a Flyers writer
A lot of the same platitudes that we heard when Hextall came in like being patient, play the kids, not going to do things the typical aggressive Flyers way, etc. Not that they're wrong, but I can't get overly excited when this "new perspective" isn't even new. I get that Jones and Camillo did them a favor with these interviews, but there was almost zero push back and skepticism both during the interviews and during the regular podcast.
The front office changes is a new thing, Fletcher hired additional people, but never really moved out any old timers.
I don't remember Hextall shaking things up.
Hextall started strong, amassed a bunch of picks, then kinda flatlined. Don't know if his heart was really in a rebuild, Schenn was the only major trade after Kimmo/Coburn and that may have been more about frustration with Schenn.
But from that 2014-15 team he kept Simmonds (26), Raffl (26), Read (28), Streit (37), PEB (29), Umberger (32), Schultz (32), AMac (28) and added Medvedev (33), VdV (28), White (27) the next season. Not exactly a commitment to a rebuild.
I think it's fair to question whether Tulsky can transition to GM. But that's different than thinking the hype doesn't have any validity.
I think it's obvious there's been a sea change, the Advisors have disappeared.
It's also fair to be skeptical whether these changes will bear fruit.
But I think the commitment to a real rebuild is sincere, the question is more about whether they can successfully execute one.
