Who's that Sixer player who won the dunk contest? That's skill. He's still a marginal NBA player.
Point is "trick" plays are cute, but the focus on a rebuilding team should be fundamentals and basic skills.
He won a contest with trick dunks. He could never pull one of those off in a game, they are tricks, designed specifically to win an event.

The Michigan and other moves that Zegras and Co pull off are skill. They are used to score a goal in a real life hockey game. Not some made for TV event

Sounds like the revolving door that you promised this year that never happened
Frost, Tippett, Cates, Allison, York became full-time starters.
Sanstrom/Ersson the backup goalie.
That's 6 of 20 spots.
If they work in 4 more starters this coming season, half the team will have been replaced by younger starters in two years.

How many "Michigans" and behind the net passes for goals were there in the playoffs?
There have been 486 goals scored so far in the playoffs.

Now how many of those guys did you already have pegged on the opening night roster last summer? You told us about this great revolving door, that door never revolved

Solely because of injuries, against their will.

You assured us there would be far, far more than that. How incredibly dishonest.

Oh, so five players that should have been in the lineup the entire time are in the lineup. Don’t forget that they played because of injuries and not out of a plan.

Hell of a revolving door. Great success. Much praise.

No, before the season I reviewed Torts in CBJ, he did what he's doing here, each season 3-4 young players moved in the starting lineup or up from bottom six to top six roles. At the end of the season a few prospects got cameos.

Foerster was the only player who could have started the second half who was deliberately kept down. Probably to tank without saying you're tanking.
Ersson could have beat out Sandstrom, but was better off as the #1 goalie in LHV (for goalies, AHL is great training, lots of shots!).

Lycksell, Desnoyers didn't look NHL ready in their cameos. Zamula had a slow start in LHV, and was blocked in Philly by the struggles of other D-men (making him play with TDA or Risto would be cruel and unusual punishment).

Gotta love how we hired a new President of Hockey Ops, during a period where the Flyers may have to completely change how they are for the first time in forever (biggest possible change, POSSIBLE is the key word), and he's only part timing it. What a f***ing joke.
Exactly what is he going to do before the end of the season?

You reviewed Tortorella and concluded by the end of the year he would have a bottom six almost entirely made of youth, as well as Braun and Seeler sitting for youth. Stop lying.

Tortorella obviously doesn't value finesse/skill players like he should. That's so obvious at this point.

How is this even a debate? And why TF is The Michigan the standard for determining it?!

We aren't supposed to believe Tortorella's words and actions, we are supposed to believe in some kind of bizarre Santa Claus version of him that was dreamed up in one guy's brain.

Is this f***ing real life? They’re talking about how upset alumni have been for years since Comcast took over. They’re concerned about THEM and saying how they’re going to take care of them because they’re great men.

Clarke and Company aren’t going anywhere based off of that.

“We want them to feel like they’re special.”
  • Jean Rasczak : All right, let's sum up. This year we explored the failure of skilled play. How our data scientists brought our world to the brink of chaos. We talked about the alumni, how they took control and established the stability that has lasted for generations since. You know these facts, but have I taught you anything of value this year?
    [to a student]
Jean Rasczak : You. Why are only veterans allowed to play?
Student : It's a reward. Something the team gives you for grinding like the Bullies.
Jean Rasczak : No. Something given has no value. When you play, you are exercising physical authority, you're using force. And force my friends is violence. The supreme authority from which all other authorities are derived.

Jones and Torts at their show no work jobs

Excuse me, did you watch the Flyers last season?
Maybe they should focus on mastering the basics before they spend time trying to perfect trick plays.

How many times a season will a goal be scored with a pass over the net? Once? Twice?
How many times a season will a goal be scored b/c the pass is on the blade in shooting position instead of a foot or two off or late and deflected.

Until my team can master the basics, I don't want them getting cute.
Learning how to make good entry and exit passes is a far more valuable skill than the "Michigan."

odds are if you find players that can pull off a got dang michigan in an nhl game and score, they can make a frigging outlet pass. what are we even talking about here.

You dingdong, Frost and Allison were already ready to be full time lineup players before Torts was hired, this isn't the achievement you think it is.

Congrats, Torts successfully integrated two 23/24 years and York, after he banished York to the AHL most of the year. Much success, truly a Paragon of player development.

Foundational titans

“We need our player development to improve.”

Well, maybe don’t leave the same people in the positions.

“We want players that have what we’re looking for and believe they can develop.”
"[Lyksell] wants to play a possession game and turn back with the puck at times. It was a habit that he had to break" - Flahr

What are the odds on the Flyers missing the playoffs for the rest of this decade?

20-21: 19th
21-22: 29th
22-23: 26th
23-24
24-25
25-26
26-27
27-28
28-29
29-30
Very, very good

Because his comment about Zegras’ flip pass “isn’t good for the game” but what Tortorella said isn’t actually what he meant.

Skill is also being able to make a tape to tape pass and the Michigan isn’t a skill play but a trick play.
