The Flyers hired their professional shill to.....be their professional shill. The thing that gets me is that they actually came out and said it. It's obvious they have little respect for fans' intelligence (and rightfully so for many), but do they really think because they phrase it as "communicating the message" that nobody is going to see that for what it is?

And I'll say this, for that job Jones probably will do well and fool the Authentics into the idea of a new era. I just can't believe they not only set it up that way, power structure wise, but also came right out and said it.

I get it, it isn't the move we wanted, but some are forgetting that he has relationships with nearly everyone. So acting like he is some lowly local radio guy with zero connections in the game is a lie. Not saying this qualifies him at all but just keep that in mind when you are commenting on things.

We know that he frequently interacts with owners/presidents/gms/coaches/players/trainers/media etc...

he has been around the game forever, and has stories with just about everyone.

I've kept it in mind. It doesn't change that his hockey values are a heap of sewage. Being nothing but a shill is the best case scenario, things will get worse if he's allowed to have roster influence.

Appreciate the rational I thought, but even fanboy meltzer mentioned it a couple times how Jones def does lean old school with his thoughts.

I respect his connections but has that ever rewlly
Been an issue?

Or is it just more old school Flyer thinking that they will FA haven’t been sold on the legend that is the Flyers. It’s just a terrifying combo of Jones with Torts, even if i open to giving Danny a shot.

Old school thinking is the last thing the Flyers needed. No other organization is held hostage by its alumni as much as this one. It keeps being proven.

Therien is even less qualified than Jones. At least Jonesy can tell a fun story and get people to like him.
From what I gather, seems like if Mellanby became president, therien would have had a role.

Dude, it's a new era of orange.

I'm assuming based on what was said that they want to figure out a way to market the team so that other players will want to come here...which hasn't been the issue at least for the last several years, so makes no sense...Hell Johnny G wanted to come here but the roster construction and hanrahanned cap hell that Fletcher put us in made it impractical.

I think that is a false narrative and hasn't even been an issue. Which in itself is a cause for concern. That's not your issue...guys want to be paid and they want to be on winning teams, if you win and pay then you'll free agents.

Bottom line is you need to win. You need to build your team before that happens. So the focus should be on getting young talent in your system, which should be started by removing shit and taking what relief you can get from a contract count, using contract space to get college free agents, and euros.

This is the most important year the scouts could possibly have so Briere needs to have them ready to hit whichever round they draft in.

Trade Deadline this year should be the time you trade Atkinson and Coots after proving they are healthy and can play.

Sounds like they are trying to move Ellis Contract, do what you can to free up cap space and then weaponize it.

One might ask you...why SHOULD we assume things will be different?

Briere WANTED and got Deslaurier.
Then Torts played him all he could.
Torts has openly said he dislikes skill and doesn't communicate
Jones loves guys like Risto.
Hilf has said he knows nothing, but loves the 70's Flyers. You really believe he isn’t talking to all the old guys?
Nothing changed yet with scouting, same people.
Or development
Or AHL group

So there IS reasons to believe nothing will change.
Deslauriers played 9:12 at ES, only one with less time was Laczynski with 9:07 (and he was downright awful, xGF 39.77%)
Bellows 9:20, Brown 10:05, Sedlak 10:39, MacEwen 11:37/Lemieux 12:02 [8 forwards over 12 minutes]

Tots has never said he dislikes skill, just ask St Louis or Atkinson, he dislikes young players getting cute instead of working on fundamentals. And he dislikes skill players who won't play defense, back check or fight for pucks.

Anyone over 60 loves the 70s Flyers, they won two Cups and lost in the Finals twice.
And they weren't offensive ciphers:
1973-74: 5 of 16 teams in goals scored
1974-75: 6 of 18
1975-76: 1 of 18
1976-77: 2 of 18
1977-78: 4 of 18
1978-79: 7 of 17
1979-80: 2 of 21

Nothing has changed b/c season isn't over, I suspect contracts expire July 1 or something like that, and you can't hire replacements until their contracts with other teams expire. And you don't want to get slapped with penalties for tampering.
Same with the AHL group.

Moves on both players and personnel will be made in June and July.

The only thing that hasn't changed is more statements from you that have no basis in reality. We are on the cusp of an enormously important summer that will answer a lot of questions. One would think we'd wait and see what happens and reserve judgement instead of spouting off statements that you can in no way prove as fact.
you should brace for a summer of disapointment..

but feel free to be excited for the new "same ol same ol"..

esp. when they start selling youth pieces and replace em with ol veteran tryhards..

I still can't believe Keith Jones is now the President of Hockey Ops :laugh::laugh:
ummm its 100% on brand...

its a whole new era of the same ol...🤣

Just imagine a different scenario.....

Hilferty come in
All advisory roles are eliminated
Fletcher, Flahr, Lombardi, Homer are all let go
Briere is named Pres
Tulsky named GM
Torts is let go as well as other coaches so Tulsky can name his own coach
New coach build his couching group
Together, they revamp the scouting dept including pro scouting.
They also overhaul the AHL coaching group that thinks like the 70's era.

Now THAT would signify that things are going to be different. A new era where the new guys get to build the new era Flyers without have the old guard anywhere in sight. Danny as Pres makes sense since he did the business side learning and by all accounts is looked in a positive way by fans.
LOL what is the air like on your planet ?

However, when there are a number of exceptions, "necessary" doesn't apply.
Does it help to have a franchise player or two? Sure. Are they easier to find at the top of the draft? Sure.
Do they exist elsewhere in the draft? Ask Bergeron, Marchand, Giroux, etc.
Can you trade for one? Ask Eichel.
Does tanking guarantee you a top pick with the lottery? Ask Sakic.

Crassus was the Musk of Rome.

meta-chart (1).png

I mean, it's possible. But chasing it as the optimum path to a cup is a fools game, especially considering the organization we're talking about is the Flyers.

(Graph is cup wins since 2006 with and without lottery picks playing a significant role)

this "triumvirate's" team is about 5 MONTHS away from playing their first game

why the f*ck all the criticism ??.....they haven't even played ONE F*CKING GAME :loony:
Because we're not idiots like you mindlessly cheering on things. We can see a bad team that just went through bad processes to land new leadership and understand that garbage in results in garbage out.

The people who actually played on those teams have deluded themselves into thinking they weren't skilled and they just won on brute force work ethic. Skill is lazy and bad to them, and that attitude permeates the entire team from top to bottom.

Personnel moves will not be made in June and July. Is this gonna be your new Revolving Door?

I find Therien easier to get into than Jones. Jones seems like a people-pleasin' p***y. Therien's just an asshole. And I guess I, uh, that's what I prefer...bro. Shit.

Anyway the Pens interviewed Tulsky.

The Flyers interviewed *checks notes* no one for the GM position.

We’re in a great place!
