They liked Briere period. His 14 months as special assistant to a terrible GM was enough to not even bother looking outside the organization. They liked Briere period, He has a similar background to Sakic and Yzerman, former star player who was groomed for a few years, then given the keys to the kingdom. Doesn't mean he'll work out, but it's obvious he is the key actor, if he really didn't want Torts around, something would have been worked out.
Torts plays kids, he's done that at every stop - what he doesn't do is play all the kids, they have to earn PT. He doesn't coddle them, but he doesn't defer to veterans either, he benched almost every veteran on this team at one point or another.
Maybe a horse will kick Torts in the face 23 times and rid this franchise of him.Triumvirates always end in civil war.
Yet another mention of the triumvirate:
Pompey: TortsTriumvirates always end in civil war.
that would make us cato?Pompey: Torts
Julius Caesar: Briere
Crassus: Jones
? Or we going with the 2nd tri
Nothing is guaranteed.Look at the construct of the top 4/5 teams remaining and see how Edmonton has done... they had four 1st overalls in six years and haven't past the semis.
Tanking hard does not always mean success.
Well Kimmo claims to love the hiring of both DB and KJ.He won't work out. He isn't similar to Yzerman or Sakic, because if he had competent ideas the Flyers would hate him. That's why they hire people like Fletcher, AV, Tortorella, Jones, Flahr, and Briere. And not someone like Timonen.
That will be my epitaph. If you can’t be smart, use words that make you sound smart I guess.
this "triumvirate's" team is about 5 MONTHS away from playing their first gameTriumvirates always end in civil war.

And remember....Jones did not reach out to them....they reached out to him 1st.Hilferty got bamboozled by Tortorella's bluster.
Jones keeps saying he wouldn't take a President's job on another NHL team, like any other team would want him in that role, like the guys running the Penguins might have come knocking on his door. You're a color commentator/radio host, dude.
Carolina could do it this year (Svechnikov is out for the year). Dallas also if you are drawing the line right after #2 although Heiskanen is a big driver of that team.Nothing is guaranteed.
But you also can't ignore that every Cup champion since 2005 has had a #1 or #2 pick overall on their team. Only St.L who had a #3 and Detroit with Datsyuk/Hank/Lidstrom are tbe outliers.
So let's not pretend that top picks don't matter...if you want to win a Championship.
And by 'under', you mean by about 14 points in the standings, right?Carolina could do it this year (Svechnikov is out for the year). Dallas also if you are drawing the line right after #2 although Heiskanen is a big driver of that team.
But yes, most teams aren't savvy enough to string enough good moves together to swing the odds in their favor without an obvious elite talent to make up for other shortcomings. File the Flyers under most teams.
Kimmo and Danny B are buds along with Hartnell (aka the guy getting Jones old job) think about it.This PR waffle is different, but not any better than the old PR waffle.

The Philadelphia Flyers are going to try to not be one of the worst teams in the league beyond this season.
There is a certain word in that statement that is key, but the message was extremely clear when Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher and Governor Dave Scott met with the media on Wednesday: Retool, patch it up, fix what’s broken, but do not even think about this team heading into a rebuild scenario.
“Everything is on the table, we’re going to try to aggressively retool here,” Fletcher said. “The trade deadline; typically, as you all know, the teams that are clearly going to make the playoffs are often looking to add guys on expiring contracts — the teams that aren’t making the playoffs, have a chance to maybe add some future assets, whether they be draft picks or prospects.
Well Kimmo claims to love the hiring of both DB and KJ.
People who point at teams like Edmonton not winning a cup with multiple high draft picks and then walking away saying high draft picks =/= success don't know the difference between "necessary" and "sufficient" and would fail a logic 101 class.
