I'm hopeful they will do it right, but not expecting it by any means, things won't change until some of the advisors die off, kind of a shitty feeling to have about the team you've cheered for your entire life

A lot of people love how Tortorella comes across yet he's a baboon.
I never liked him at all, and the only fans that like him are all over 55 years old, who believe size, strength, toughness, and fighting wins games and all despise speed and skill

Glad to see you’re already eating up the PR from the guy hired to do PR for the team.
Obviously they got something right with that hire.

I see zero evidence that the Advisors have any influence or input. Heck, they're the "3 monkeys" now.

I think this is Briere's baby, sink or swim.

Torts will tell him what he likes in players (with an emphasis on intangibles, forget size, Torts would cream over Gourde, for example), Jones will put in his 2 cents, but Briere will make the decisions. And given Briere was an undersized skill player, he'll have no problem with undersized skill players - but Briere was a tough, feisty competitive SOB, so he will have a problem with "figure skaters."

A guy that eats up all of the team’s propaganda eating up PR fluff means they got a hire right?

What did everyone think of the press conference?

Didn’t get to watch the whole thing but a lot of the Chuck/BStBullies haters, are actually complimenting the tone and saying they did a good job with the messaging.

Anyone impressed with how Jones/Briere presented themselves?

I hate the hires but I enjoyed Jonesy’s statement, he feels very authentic. I can appreciate that. Wishing them the best of luck.
They basically came out and said Jones was hired because of his PR abilities and he wouldn't have much influence on hockey decisions.

Now he is out there being good at PR and saying "the right things and people are absolutely lapping it up. He was hired to lie to you and put a positive spin on everything.

And yet people are still tripping over themselves to believe the BS.

Clarke could personally tell you he's involved and you'd refuse to believe it.

Hilferty fellates and defends the advisors at every turn. He worships them. He's the nerd who gets to hang out with the jocks, just like Dan Snyder. He said he knows nothing about hockey and wants a return to the spirit of the 70s. I wonder who would advise him on that front?

Are we still on this delusional train that they are rebuilding?

Lol even if they do it their half ass way, a team that can’t find/develop anything beyond average NHL talent is going to do it right this time?

The positive here is yet even more Flyer alumni will get embarrassed nationally. Let it burn to the ground. Crackhouse.

I wonder how many times Jones has to wipe up his chin the last few weeks.

I think ASF has gone a bit overboard. While I tend to be optimistic, I understand going "Missouri" given the franchise's recent history.
We'll have a better feel for the "new regime" by July. Three things I think we'd all like to see.

1) good dealmaking, pick up some assets before this draft, move out Hayes, Provorov, Laughton. Everyone else is "make me an offer I can't refuse."
2) clean house, pro scouts and development may happen earlier, amateur scouting after the draft - it's been a country club for too long, jettison dead wood.
3) bargain basement hunting, FA, waiver wire, college FAs - both hidden gems and veteran depth you can flip at next year's TDL

Don't care what they say, burning bridges excites fans but doesn't move the needle - I care what they do.

They are going to continue to run back this outdated model and when they continue to fail they will chalk it up to injuries, bad luck or whatever lame excuse they can come up with.
I seriously doubt that, when have you ever heard a previous FO talk about a long-term rebuild, not rushing things, doing it right?
The line we've been feed the last couple decades is the Flyers are always competitive, they "reload", not "rebuild", and so on.
Don't think it was a coincidence that the last time the Flyers rebuilt (1989-94) they fired Clarke and Holmgren.

Now I realize there are some who think "rebuild" and "tank" are synonymous, but that's a different matter.
They are committed to getting younger, and that means trading veterans and playing prospects.
But they're in no rush, so prospects not deemed ready will spend time in the AHL. Hard to think of a prospect ruined by an extra half season in the AHL.

They will try to win with what they have on the roster, but they're not keeping veterans around to try and win.

I still cannot believe Hilferty tried to tell us that these were the best two candidates. They just coincidentally happened to be former Flyers. And then the lecture from Torts to top it off. Briere? Ok, you can at least talk yourself into him being competent. Did you really have to double up with Keith Jones?

Damn. @VladDrag catching a stray.
I am kinda doing a Jojo, and staying away for a bit. I have been reading a few pages at a time. It’s just hard to read the constant nonsense.

both Briere and Jones have said we have toughness, now we need skill and youth

that's not rebuilding ??

It's not gonna happen overnight .....so go on and complain your hearts out :sarcasm:

They went on and on about becoming a modern club and hired the guy that was behind giving meathead a four year deal. Do you see the contradiction? Hey man, to each their own but I’ll believe it when I see it. They are shoveling the same old shit

Except even if they do obvious dumb shit, you defend it or say it doesn't matter. You can be optimistic but when you defend everything, your credibility is lost.

Both jones and briere were guys who had to put the work in as players. I'm more confident they will try to win on the margins than our previous old school gms.
