Knowing they need high end skill and knowing torts' opinions on skill (see zegras), they not only hired him, but invented a new structure in which he has more power than any other coach in the league. It is obvious this is going to blow up in their face

Wasn't Clarke like a assistant coach and player in the 80's?

I don’t think anyone is saying that Briere will definitely be a poor GM. The complaints are about the process, the reshuffling of deck chairs. No one wants Briere to fail. I’m sure most here have fond memories of that 2010 HBL line that caught fire and that kneeling Briere up punch as a celebration. I am tentatively optimistic about DB. Anyone can knock a team down to start a rebuild. The problem is the puppet masters are still lurking in the shadows

Same with Keith. It’s just awful optics and an awful process

Woke up, and saw that this is reality. Keith Jones is in charge of an NHL team’s hockey operation.

Keith Jones "knows so much about hockey" that he thinks Risto is a good hockey player. Thats all you need to know.
Risto, Hagg, Deslauriers, MacEwen… notice a pattern?

And who did he bitch about the most? Ghost, Sanheim, Frost.

This is the piece of shit running the franchise. I’m just glad I found a real sport/team to care about because the Flyers died the day Fletcher was hired. They’re not being resurrected any time soon. The only way that could happen would be if Briere is secretly a legit hockey mind who ignores all the dinosaur assholes around him, which is about a 0.1% chance.

They only ever hire people who think like them.

Tells you everything you need to know about Briere.

Devils if you want to stay local and watch a fun, exciting team.

Canes if you want to watch a team that always does the right thing.

LA if you want a fun team but feel dirty about staying in conference.
I watched the Devils more than the Flyers this year. What a fun, fast, and skilled young team. Basically the anti-Flyers. Once they get a goalie, they're going to be cup contenders for a decade.

Oh it's not appealing or right to hire your coach first, who is forced upon your gm who you hire next, who is forced upon your president that you hire last?

Backwards ass bullshit. These people are proof that being rich means nothing, just luck and kissing the right asses

I'm now on my "summer of george" unemployment for more or less telling my management they didn't have a single clue what they were doing in regards to technology.

Collecting 830 a week (which isn't great) to go to the beach/work on my side hustle/etc isn't too bad though.

Let's pretend for a second that they plan on going into an organizational rebuild and they're going to clean out the scouting department, which is long overdue. Whose going to be helping with that? Not Jones. Hanrahan is the CBA guy. It'll be Flahr and Briere.

That would mean the dude who almost exclusively gibbers on about size and shooting while reviling just about everything else (including playing to maintain possession) as "cute" and a thing to be eradicated will be filling the scouting department with people just like him.

What a nightmare. I said we might be (being generous) five years away from being ten years away, but it's more likely we are ten years away from a path that may put us five years away from being ten years away.

Luckily there's a very small chance any of those guys will be touched, for whatever the hell that's worth.

I'm a big fan of tilting at impregnable windmills over principle, seriously. Nice going.
