I can't finish the f***ing thing. Aside from being unbelievably poorly written, it is just full of complete shit.

"When examining the areas for which each will be responsible, it presents itself as the best of both worlds. The approach that Briere and Jones take to their respective roles is going to be virtually the same as any outsider would take as far as connections to the past are concerned - in that those connections aren't going to be much of a factor."

F*** right off. My brain hurts so bad right now.

That's written like someone is trying to meet a character minimum

This all reeks of the head coach being the hiring manager. Just surrounding him with guys that will kiss his ass and cater to him. I just cannot imagine bending over for a 65 year old hockey coach. Aside from a select few, these guys are so replaceable year-to-year. Now the face of the franchise is a guy who will be in his 70s the next time this team has a chance to be relevant again. Why do they make every decision look so f***ing hard?

And what about the personnel and amateur side? I guess we'll find out after the draft, but all of those guys coming back too? Including Flahr? So essentially a Keith Jones for Chuck Fletcher swap is all that has happened? What a new era boys!

Seriously, has everyone in the franchise totally abdicated the basic functions of their job? These quotes take 10 minutes: you ask the guy what message they want to put out there, you doll them up and edit and you're done.

Considering their hyperfocus on telling their own story, it's f***ing comical that the execution of that is "let a robot dream."

Add to it that the role of President has been diluted into "Keep sharing the message" and that Jones' asset for this position is that he is a great communicator. So he can't even prepare his own PR statement?

I think ASF may have the best take on this, it's either going to be brilliant or a disaster.
As he points out, broadcasters have succeeded in the past, ex-players have succeeded.
I wonder what Jones really thought about the team and the FO, obviously as an announcer, he had to toe the company line (they sign the paycheck).

I don't think Torts is going to run the rebuild, Briere will, but Torts will put his stamp on it, mostly by establishing the template for the kind of players he wants.
You think Sirianni doesn't tell Howie the kind of players he wants for his schemes, why they replaced Gannon with another Fangio disciple, etc.
To me, the fact that Torts/Briere have no problem working together (it seems) suggests they agree on the template.

And having that template avoids problems, since a big part will be intangibles, don't think you'll see the Flyers draft/trade for offense first players who run hot and cold and are indifferent to defense. But someone like Benson would be a good fit. They would love to find the next Point, but would probably skip over the next Patrick Kane.

They will want to be physical, it's just that physical means something different in 2020 than 2000 (Clarke, Barber, Holmgren, Lombardi).
That is, it's a faster game, and being physical is more about speed and high motor and aggressive forecheck and hounding skill players over 200 feet, breaking up plays and forcing turnovers. You still have to win board battles to keep/break up the cycle, but the 220 lb player who can't skate is obsolete.

One "figure skater" team full of talent just lost 4-1 in the 2nd round to a team with less elite talent but deeper and more physical.
The other "figure skater" team is on the edge of elimination.
It seems the league hasn't changed as much as advertised.

Why does every.f***ing.decision we make have to be so volatile? How is that GOOD?

Can't we hire someone and go "You know, I am confident they'll get it done" for a change?

Yes, we can, but we'd rather swing for the fences for some stupid reason as if it's the only option to move forward. Also, chances are great it'll be a disaster.

Keith Jones already sucks. The fact that Pronger didn't seem intested in the job because of the power struggle that already exists shows that Keith Jones is nothing more than a useless mouth piece.

The PoHO should have the vision, the GM a shared vision on just the pure hockey aspects, and the coach to work within the roster and have some input on those decisions.

Sirianni was hired specifically to run the team under an agreeable philosophy. Doug Pederson was fired because he didn’t.

I genuinely believe that there is no candidate that everyone would be good with.

If this was offered to Pronger and he refused it because of that, then we're totally f***ed.

At least Pronger has some experience in orgs from a management level & has been in other organizations much longer than Philly, so he barely counts as "old boys club" in any way.

I genuinely believe that there is no candidate that everyone would be good with.

Well it really depends. If Yzerman is available, I'm not arguing.

But with Jonesy, can you objectively look at that hire and go "Yup, I'm sure he's going to make a lot of positive change"

He's got nothing we can point to in experience for this kind of thing.
