Just curious- have you ever in your life seen Lindgren play or have read anything about him prior to today?
Lindgren has nine points in 31 games as a rookie in the AHL. That’s.. pretty decent actually. Hallander seems like a big name to us but he’s probably in the same level as Lindgren.

I’m holding JR’s feet to the fire now. If he gets a good return on a goalie and dumps JJ, fine, I’m okay with it. If he whiffs on that or makes a bad FA signing he needs to go or have 4 assistants attached to him again.

I did say just last night - JR is getting desperate and if you trust him right now.. you are insane.

I don't think this is as bad as some people think. HF will always overrate prospects. They ALWAYS will. But hot damn JR is in full overpay to panic mode.
I really like KK’s game so I’m not flipping out mad. On one side or the other if it had been a lesser pick or a lesser prospect that Hallander I would be completely fine it. It’s not some OMG the sky is falling over pay. But it is an overpay. So I’m not mad persay but it does make the eyes go wide and an eyebrow up in a wtf manner.

That said... I’ve also learned to wait and see every off season move before I judge. It’s ultimately better just to look at all offseason moves than individual ones.

When he was drafted, he was labelled high-risk, high-reward. However, since he's been drafted, he's been more of a "safe" d-man. Stylistically he's reminded me of Stralman when I watch him play. Not saying he'll get to that level but as a Leaf fan I would say he's underrated.
Well there you go using common sense & reason

UMMMM so you know Hallander is going to be great right?

We do know that Kahun is going to be good, and we trwded him for nothing. while we give up a 15th and Hallander for Kapenen.

So we trade Kahun, who's better than Kap, for scraps.

But give up a ton for Kapenen.

Just terrible asset management

Spoiker: he’s not. He’s Rust 2017 with a cocky attitude.

I know.

Kapanen is already the player that the Pens would be hoping to get with the 15th overall pick. We're running short on time for Crosby and Malkin to still be productive, elite, players. Why not maximize it while we still can?

Yes our farm system is trash. It will continue to be. The bottom will fall out at some point. Keeping mid firsts is not going to forestall that process unless we're getting Giroux or Getzlaf level steals in those slots.

The question is whether Kapanen is the answer to our specific shortcomings.

Does he help the PP? We don't know, he played there about as much as Kahun did last year.

Is he going to be Sid's RW? Unclear. He's had trouble establishing chemistry with Toronto's elite centers and been more effective when driving play on the 3rd line.

Is he our 3RW? Is that worth giving up the 15th and a 1st? His tunnel vision skillset is the exact opposite of what McCann needs, so maybe this move precipitates another move for a 3C.

I’d rather go all in the next 2-3 years and then be garbage at the twilight of Sid’s career, instead of being middle of the road indefinitely. It might back fire, but the only way to succeed in this league is by landing a top 3 overall caliber player.

Kapanen is probably sliding onto Malkin's wing while Rust moves back up to Crosby's line. Honestly, I really like Kapanen on this team and in that role, I just don't like the price they paid for him.

A world with a lot of drugs.

Trying to look on the plus side -

Aberg can score, if by some miracle we unlock his game he could honestly be the best player involved in this
The fact it involves Rodrigues means the Maatta trade tree is alive and well, and with three pieces in play, now has a good chance of becoming some long-running byzantine thing
Kapanen isn't an awful player
I can stop caring as much

Aberg in the KHL next season and should be a UFA after that.

Hallander is a big add. But like I said, Kapanen is probably what you hope the 15 OA turns into anyways, right?

I know some people have dreams bigger than that, and Jesse seems pretty high on this draft in general, so maybe I'm off base there.

One of Penguins scouts must be big on Aberg and/or Lindgren. No way JR knew who either of those players were.

We do since Aberg was on the Predators 2017 SCF team. He has good stats in the AHL. Long shot to be an impact player but no more or less than what ERod is.

I feel like the only way this deal can be fine is if Lindgren is better than what I'm expecting from him. To me, he doesn't seem like much. But if he's a good RD prospect, I can stomach this deal. It's a little overpayment from JR if Lindgren is a good prospect.

Perhaps. My only thought is that there has to be something around Hallander not wanting to come over to NA. It just doesn't make sense otherwise.

He needs to adjust the font size on his devices and thought it was Liljegren to carry JJ.

I was secretly hoping this, that it was a mistaken identity.

Aberg has produced well at the AHL level, but has yet to translate that in the NHL.

He has also bounced around a ton and has only played 37 games with one team in a season. I thought I remember there being some interest around him in Nashville, but he must have fizzled out.

I like adding Kap, don't like moving Hallander, but what do I know. The window is now so feast while there's still food at the table.
This board voted for Aberg in the 2012 mock draft to be picked at 22 if my memory serves me correctly. He was pretty decent for Nashville a season or two ago

go talk to Sid, he wants & gets who he wants on his line & Kahun wasn't one of the chosen ones

Makes the lineup so sloppy and burns like 2/4 good assets we had not on the roster.

It feels like we gotta make 3 more trades because of this single one. This is so vintage JR making a move for the sake of making one.
