One of Penguins scouts must be big on Aberg and/or Lindgren. No way JR knew who either of those players were.

I hope @Empoleon8771 is right about Murray having a stellar return, cuz, uhhhhh, that Kap trade ain't good at all.

I say that as someone who really likes Kapanen too.

I sincerely doubt the Pens are getting a first round pick in return for Murray, but you never know. There are lots of teams thirsty for a goalie out there.

But goalies just never seem to generate that kind of return.

I feel like the only way this deal can be fine is if Lindgren is better than what I'm expecting from him. To me, he doesn't seem like much. But if he's a good RD prospect, I can stomach this deal. It's a little overpayment from JR if Lindgren is a good prospect.

I mean... I know the third line needs some work, clearly. And again I can't stress that I like Kap enough. But I don't see anything here that really helps that much. Frankly I don't care much about specialized penalty killers and when your problem is that you can't score when it matters a guy who can't score when it matters seems like an odd choice.

Hallander was possibly the most intriguing player out of any traded. Well... and that 15th overall, of course...
If they plan on Kapanen being in the top 6 I'm okay with it. The guy is a lot better player than Sheary or Simon.

Kapanen is already the player that the Pens would be hoping to get with the 15th overall pick. We're running short on time for Crosby and Malkin to still be productive, elite, players. Why not maximize it while we still can?

Yes our farm system is trash. It will continue to be. The bottom will fall out at some point. Keeping mid firsts is not going to forestall that process unless we're getting Giroux or Getzlaf level steals in those slots.
This isn't the guy to use that first one, if you are going to trade him. Frankly, Malkin and Letang need to go and the next couple years need to be about Crosby and the kids.

This team will get 85-95 points next season and go out in the first round- at best.

Hurray! Great JOB! WE DID IT! Everyone around the league is laughing at the old man

My issue is this. Kap in a vacuum for the 1st isn't a bad trade off. Kap to the Pens for the 1st is bad because I don't think he will fit next to Sid (or Geno for that matter). He seems too tunnel visioned for that. And I say that as someone who quite likes Kapanen and got to see a fair amount of him in TO. So, now we have 2 RW that potentially won't work in the top 6 (Kap/Horny - for reasons everyone knows). Rust who should remain next to Geno. And Tanev who likely won't leave Sully's love affair 4th line. I hope I'm wrong and he blows up here, but I just don't see it.

Dude, Jimmy should have been fired the day he walked into Ron's office with a request to sign Jack Johnsson.

Hes gonna run the Penguins into the ground HARD these next two offseasons. Buckle up for generation x part II in two seasons.

FML is this guy a clown when you actually have to be a GM not a horse trader.

Aberg is a 26 NHL/AHL split guy. He's your ERod replacement. Hallander for Lindgren is your 1:1. Kappy for 1st+Warsofsky who isn't going to sniff the NHL for us?

I mean, not what I want...but this isn't highway robbery.
I'm what world is the fringe prospect Toronto sent us equal to Hallander?

I will say, Kapanen is going to be slotted on Malkin's RW with Zucker. The Penguins top-6 is filthy at this point, Guentzel-Crosby-Rust and Zucker-Malkin-Kapanen looks awesome on paper. Kapanen is a really good addition, I just don't like the price they paid for him unless Lindgren is better than what I'm thinking.

I'll agree he is better, for sure. And I mean... this is dangerous thinking in some ways but if a guy like Hagelin can keep up in the top six... Kap can... probably? Maybe? We hope?

I still think they play him on the third line and primarily PK because Sullivan.

We kept JR around two off-seasons too long. Should've been gone after the Isles series, but he'll stick around to further drive this team into the dirt with directionless, desperate, idiotic moves before he's fired next summer under the guise of the team and JR "mutually parting ways".
