like don’t get me wrong the pick should be traded Crosby and Malkins remaining elite years need to be maxed but it could have got someone better especially with teams being desperate for cap compliance . Just my opinion as an outside fan

I mean... I know the third line needs some work, clearly. And again I can't stress that I like Kap enough. But I don't see anything here that really helps that much. Frankly I don't care much about specialized penalty killers and when your problem is that you can't score when it matters a guy who can't score when it matters seems like an odd choice.

Hallander was possibly the most intriguing player out of any traded. Well... and that 15th overall, of course...

Kapanen is already the player that the Pens would be hoping to get with the 15th overall pick. We're running short on time for Crosby and Malkin to still be productive, elite, players. Why not maximize it while we still can?

Yes our farm system is trash. It will continue to be. The bottom will fall out at some point. Keeping mid firsts is not going to forestall that process unless we're getting Giroux or Getzlaf level steals in those slots.

Kapanen for the 15 oa is a good deal. Kapanen is a young middle six player with a low cap hit and with ties to the Pens, who i suspect will do well there. A 15? Nice, but not ready for 3 years at a minimum, if ever. A guy like a Schneider might be ready for 21-22...maybe... but he is a meat and potatoes type.

Roughly half of 15OAs in the last decade have been in the NHL by D+2 and the majority hit.

And even if we were trading it, what Kapanen brings is about the last thing we need here, and there was a bunch of other crap we could have used that 1st and Hallander for.

Basically... no.
