Problem is they are not AHL defensemen, hence the questioning of the coaching at this point. Are they all stars? Of course not, but the lack of defensive positioning is just attrocious at this point.

The problem is a few things

The defensive personnel are being asked to play a role above their ability..that's on the GM
The goaltending is atrocious...that's on the GM
The defensive scheme and structure do not match the available personnels talent or ability...that's on the coach

No, they just really suck. They are all #5/6 dmen playing in #2, #3, and #4 roles.

Kane gives me Datsyuk vibes, unfortunately outside Cat, who is slow, not much high IQ players. It will take some time for others to understand what Kane is doing.
The best scenario , I think, is to bring Kasper and Danielson and let them be with Kane, for that some traded needs to be done. Remember line 2 kids and goat. It will be great for both kids, for their game learning from the best

I’d go as far to say most of them are 6/7 defenders.

Holl, Petry and Maata are at best 6/7

Chiarot and Walman can pass as a 4-5 maybe

Gost O ability is awesome but his defenseman is so bad it washes out his O contributions so I’d say he’s a 4

I'm kind of thankful to Kane. He reminded me clearly what an actual star is. The last time we had one was Zetterberg in 2016. Since then I confused some of our players with stars...

Now, I can prepare myself to another rebuild.
How do Kane's stats look with and without DBoss? How did Dboss' stats look before Kane?

It's obvious who the star of this team is, and it's not Kane, but he's a nice add especially for free.

Totally agree. But I’d exclude Ghost too. He should be your #5, mostly playing sheltered minutes against 3rd and 4th lines while logging PP1 minutes. That way you can hide him a little. And if the season should go to shit, then hes the premier piece you move out.

It is not about goals, playing with DeBrincat, etc. You see how that guy handles the puck, how he enters the O zone, how he sees the ice, etc. Yes, he sometimes fails to execute things, but he has 36 yo.

We lack stars. We need them to make the next step.

Indeed…I find it sorta sad that it’s been quite some time since having a player of that caliber wearing the Winged Wheel.

I think it is a bit unfair to compare guys to Kane, just as it would be to Z, Yzerman, and Fedorov. Kane isn't just a star, he's a surefire HOFer and arguably the best American born player ever. The guy is legitimately in that conversation.

I think Larkin is very arguably a star. I think Seider and Raymond will be considered stars if they aren't already. It would be nice to get some more guys on that HOF level, but I don't think it is necessary to be successful if we have enough guys on that Larkin level.

Agree to an extent. The actual problem is that instead of Larkins we draft Kaspers and Danielssons.

I mean in terms of play style and traits... Kasper and Danielson are pretty similar types of players as Larkin.

They are all 6'1" and good skaters and competitive and play in the middle and play both sides of the puck.

Danielson is closer to a clone to larkin and kasper seems to be more like a center version of a tkachuk-lite type player (not talking skillset, moreso their demeanor) at least from what little i've seen. Some of the GR highlight's I saw like a month ago, he was getting into it in front of the net after the whistle for literally no reason other than to irritate the other team, of which I think we need to have because we have no one that does that...except maybe perron but he is subtle with it.

Tkachuk-lite comparisons for Kasper could be said as "sam bennett" as well.

So what you are telling me is they actually project as centers. That is exactly what I wanted to hear.

I think so. I get the thought process behind both of those picks.

As far as if it was the optimal pick for us over some of the more offensively gifted players available? Don’t know yet.

I wanted nazar over kasper at the time. Of all teams to pick him up it just had to be chicago lol
