Oddly, Capfriendly still has his status as "registration pending", so maybe the contract is signed by both sides but the Wings haven't submitted the paperwork yet because they're at the roster limit, lol.
I'm no expert in such matters, but I think said registration is a league thing, not a roster thing. We're at the roster limit because Berggren was recalled. I'm willing to bet his contract is registered in the morning.

His media availability will be real interesting if he's asked about his disdain towards Detroit in the past.

But in all seriousness, it's good that he's happy to join us. Looking forward to seeing how he looks when he's ready to play in a game.

Friedman said he knows people buying tickets for Thursday anticipating he plays, but I would be pretty surprised if he did. Then again, depends how he's been spending these last few months.

Meh, we haven't been in the West for over 10 years. Large chunk of Kane's career we weren't even in the same division and there certainly wasn't some rivalry. It is like Colorado, we don't really have a rivalry with them anymore either, even if most of us still hate them.

Yeah, can't see it. My guess is it will be a 1-2 week transition that is taken day to day.

I too would be surprised if he plays Thursday. I think the soonest we can expect him in the lineup is Tuesday in Buffalo. The extra time will give him an opportunity to acclimate to his new teammates and get a few practices in. Not that I expect him to play Tuesday, just in my mind, that's the earliest I'd anticipate seeing him in a game.

It was more of a joke than anything else, seeing as whether or not he genuinely disliked the city or the team in the past is truly immaterial to today. Even if he still hates the city, he agreed to come here, and he knows he has a job to do.

I am excited for him to join. I wonder why he is excited if he really is? Is it money? Because he could have gone to teams that will almost for certain make the playoffs and push for a cup??
He's probably going to make that much money as interest in his bank account.

Think that 2009 to 2013 was a small rivalry. We had playoff series at 2009 and 2013. Both won one. Kane was there. Wings went to Cup finals at 2009 and Hawks won the 2013 Cup.

Wings moved to East after 2013, and then the rivalry kind of started to end. The cities will still hate each others.

If the contract is registered then the Wings are over the roster limit. He counts towards the roster as soon as the contract goes into effect. Hence, the Wings are just holding up the paperwork on purpose.

Also, I'm looking forward to Bedard joining the team in 2040, lol.

At that point we were at the end of our run for the most part or darn close to it, and no one is left from either team besides Kane. Still a long time to not really be involved in a major rivalry and still maintain large hate.

Everyone reacting to Corey Perry news wondering why it's so secretive

Red Wings fans thinking about Vrana: first time?

Someone do the meme

I was against pursuing Kane, but given the $ and term I see this as a no-risk / all reward scenario. If the Wings go out an sign Corey Perry off waivers too that might give them enough veteran locker room presence to make the finals this year.

I wonder if Perron and Kane will be cordial. I’m fairly confident they played in some pretty heated playoff series. Iirc, STL-CHI was brutal for a few years.

What? Lol

Love this signing. Knew from the beginning there wasn't any real risk of Yzerman offering something risky like term or a high cap hit with so many question marks around his health. And as usual, Yzerman surpasses expectations. 1yr at less than 3M, just perfect. Virtually no risk and, with some luck, very high reward.

I see this going one of 3 ways:
- Best case: His surgery was a success and he gets a late-career renaissance. 70+ point winger who is deadly on the PP.
- Good case: He is able to play, but his hips take his skating down several notches and he is now slow. With limited general usage and deployment on the PP, he could still be a 50 pt winger.
- Worst case: His hips either cause pain to the point he needs to LTIRetire, or they slow him down to the point of ineffectiveness. Either way the contract is off the books at the end of the season.

Another masterclass by Yzerman. :cheer:
