He is not going to be producing a ton of points because of the lack of PPPs. Hypothetically speaking.. Say he puts up 45pts.... which is a major jump, nearly double his total from last season.

What's the contract? If we're looking long term? I honestly dont think he takes a max ( 8 year ) deal. I can't see how Agents instruct their KAM/Laffy type clients into taking long term deals right now unless it's a Jack Hughes type of deal.

Forget what the 'team wants'. What would you do as KAM? Would you take a 5 year deal for around $4.5M or so? or do you take a 2-3 year bridge, trust your talents and wait for the cap to explode higher?

If it's not a bridge, I see a 5 year deal..... maaaaaaaaybe 6.

If he continues to improve, and I am not sure there are indications he will not, then having both him and Fox locked up long term before any large cap increases take place makes a ton of sense.

If they need to, for example, buyout Goodrow, trade Lindgren, or approach those with NMCs about moving, or some combination of that, in order to have that cap space at that time, they should heavily consider making those moves.

Having what would be a 25 and a 23 year old top pair worthy defenders locked up through their primes would be pretty awesome.

I’d love to see this…Say an opposing team has a sloppy line change…Miller takes off down the left side and Fox springs him with a sweet long pass. I could see that being a real weapon if those two are paired.

Miller is only 22 and looks like hes about to turn into an all-star level defenseman, this season, if he isnt already.

This kid is special. We all saw the raw talent but he is trending straight up. The combination of skating, size and heady play is really coming together.

What will the Rangers need to pay him to lock him up long term? It should be done ASAP.

Its a good problem to have, but man - it does throw a bit of a wrench into things cap-wise. With that said, whats his worth around the league right now? Its gotta be pretty damn high.

kandre is going to be a PROBLEM this year. i hope drury can pull some magic and get him locked in now at the most possible years inside 5.5-7. which absolutely busts our budget but he looks like a weapon x kinda guy. only real kinda comparable guy i can come up with right now would be brent burns back in the day. not many comparables for that combo of size/speed...and his play on both sides of the puck looked like another big step forward last night. it was a preseason game so grain of salt but he was playing like this level didnt even challenge him.

You hit it exactly.

He has the skating and size, and he has the IQ to put it all together. To be fair, it was preseason with a rag-tag group of Islanders yesterday, but he didn't take a shift off and was one of the best players on the ice, if not the best.

$6-$7 million per year, I would guess, since he has RFA years. Maybe even more with the way salaries are trending, depending upon how many FA years they want to buy up.

Couldn't agree more.

It was like he was toying with the lower level hopefuls on the Islanders last night. If he can add a little more physicality and some scoring (they said he really focused on his shot in the offseason, again) my God watch out. But even if he doesnt he is a bonafide top pairing defenseman already, he proved it in the playoffs this year. Big things coming

On a long term deal, he might get that much, but he isn't getting a long term deal because we don't have the space to give him one.

As good as he has been, he has yet to break out offensively. Lindgren got 3 x 3 with similar offensive numbers. Dobson got 4 x 3 with much better offensive numbers. Miller isn't arbitration eligible, so he has no leverage other than a potential offer sheet, which is unlikely.

Unless Miller somehow puts up 50 points this year, he isn't getting more than 4 mil per year.

I'd be ecstatic with 4x3

6x5 is fair but can we afford it capwise next season?

The first couple of years, he got beat on reads and got beat wide and relied on his ability to recover and generally on his raw gifts to play a man's game.

Now with a couple years under his belt, including a deep playoff run, he now will use his experience and knowledge of the league's players and tack that onto his natural gifts. It will help his reads, his timing, his knowing when to activate and when to jump into the play.

That is dangerous for the rest of the NHL. A dangerous recipe. The league should take warning. It's Miller time.

I have to remind myself that Miller is a converted forward.

He's been playing defense for about 6.5 years and in that time 2 of them have been in the NHL. So of course there was quite a bit of an adjustment period coming off basically two years as a defender in the Big Ten.

Most defenseman in the NHL have been playing D since they were young or very young. There's a whole set of scenarios and perceptions he was late to the game with and now it's all gelling with his rare skillset.

I believe there is still another level or two, or three, that he can hit given his development as a defenseman.
He performed incredibly well playoffs last season so its scary to think there is still a lot of room for growth

I'm hoping he can be an elite matchup defenseman who also excels at pushing the puck back up the ice on the attack, but I have doubts he'll ever be a big enough point producer to be the total "franchise" type defenseman

A lot of that is just the situation...when you have one of if not the best powerplay quarterbacks in the league in front of you for 1st unit power play time, you simply will never be able to put those extra points up.

But I also haven't quite seen the all around offensive game yet. He is good and has been getting better at using his mobility to move around the offensive zone and jump in, make plays, and get shots off. I have yet to see him as the kind of puck controller that someone like Fox is (not even at Fox's level, but just that guy that things run through)

Which isn't to put him down or anything, just trying to be honest about his game because as great as he could be and as important as I think he'll be to this team, I don't quite think he's franchise defenseman level
