I’ve posted about this since the first few games of his rookie season, it seems as if he’s almost scared to get passed to and would rather defer to other players so he purposely avoids getting in position to get passed to. On the PP when he was in the shooting spot before (not bumper like right now) he would often go way too deep to be at a good shooting angle as to not get passed to because he was presumably nervous about flubbing on a one timer. If you think about this and then go watch game footage of him you’ll see it. I don’t think his hockey IQ could be that bad, he lacks confidence and wants to be a passenger instead of being passed to and potentially screwing up IMO
Kid has Massive potential! He is a superior version of Nikita Scherbec, a former Hab who had the potential to be a solid 3rd liner for Canadiens but just did not put in the work! Kakko has to many positives to give up on!

I'm not arguing that they weren't stale to start.... but when they play well they should be rewarded. When they are producing, they should be left alone. Both players were moved after starting to find their groove.. most notably Kakko with Panarin and Laffy was replace by Reaves in Minnesota.

It's bizzaro moves like that, that bother me. Laffy should have been getting 17-18 minutes a game in the playoffs. He was easily our best 5v5 player IMO

There's no risk in giving him a 2-3 year deal.

There is a risk in giving him a 1 year deal.
Dont understand the irrational thinking in that we hand out a 3 yr. deal to an iffy/aging Nemeth and dont do the same for Kakko.
Even if we DO intend on moving him, isn't there more leverage that he is signed for a year or 2 extra? Many teams would take a flyer on a 2OA. They eventually come around.
He busts out? Then so much the better. We then have a bargain basement price on a productive player. Jeez Louise.
Is his agent playing hardball, because he got sat? Agent not wanting a 2-3 year deal? Betting on himself? I dunno.

Kakko probably wouldn't do the third year without significant money. He is betting on himself right now and isn't going to give away years that could potentially be much more lucrative.

As he should. Kakko is going to be a good top 6 player, likely this year in fact. I have zero doubts about him at all (if he can stay healthy).
I think that if he can his skating to be a little more efficient and fix his first few steps, we will see a different player.

Kakko needs to pick up the intensity in his game and shoot the puck more/quicker. The G6 scratch was hopefully a message sent. He’s realistically got a half a season to show he belongs.

It's weird to say because it shouldn't have to be said, yet some are too impatient to give him longer.
What posters here say is irrelevant. It's just my opinion but I feel like management and the coach are looking at it this way. They have a lot of young players to sign next season, wouldn't shock me to see him go if he doesn't take a big step forward this year. I hope he get ample opportunity to show what he can do in the top 6 this season.

It's weird to say this about a kid so young, but this really feels like a make or break year for him here in NY.
He plays the least important position in the game. Certainly the easiest position to transition to the NHL at.

This organization has several guys that can potentially fill the role that should be his. He has had every opportunity to lock that role down. The organization can’t be faulted for that.

Patience is fine. It’d be one thing if they signed a couple of vet wingers for him to compete with. They didn’t. He needs to win the job. 21 is young but he’s not a baby anymore.

This is pretty much the way I see it. He looked good in the playoffs without a lot on the scoresheet to show for it. Hopefully that carries over this season.

well he's probably still going to play 3rd line minutes so... most likely break

he will be, but maybe it will take until he's 26 just like Buchnevich

What is Kaako's qualifying offer? Assuming they don't come to an agreement, this goes to arbitration?
$832,500 plus bonuses. He is not arb-elgible.

Molly wrote an article today with quotes from his agent Mike Luit. Sounds like there’s no drama, Luit has a good relationship with Drury, both camps understand the process, and Group II RFAs take longer to process because they’re low on the priority list this time of year.

Lets hope Kaapo has set his priorities straight.
1. Get quicker/faster
2. Shoot more/stop hesitating/release quicker
3. Get stronger

Very Little of
1. Worrying about "releasing" (women)
2. Alcohol consumption (keep it minimal)
3. Doing the same things LarryBiv has done

lol thats what im saying. Gallant will continue to be a bozo with his deployment and kill any chance for him to succeed.
I dunno. While him scratching KK in game six, and the way it was conveyed, left a bad taste in my mouth, when I look at GG's past I see him giving (ATOI):

19 yo Barkov 17:30 then 20 yo Barkov 19:26 (most among F both years)
21 yo Huberdeau 16:45 then 22 yo Huberdeau 18:09
18 yo Ekblad 21:49 then 19 yo 21:41 (2nd most among D both years)

Even Trocheck, he moved him into solid 2C position at age 22 after sheltering him in Gallant's first year.

Now, some of that is due to roster composition but it's not like GG has an extensive history of not giving young players ice time.

We've got Rodney Dangerfield ova here.

Additional Kakko related post:

Stromes spot on the PP is Kakkos to lose. He'd be perfect there.
He played there for one or two games, scored against ARI then never saw PP1 again.

Maybe more importantly he's better with puck possession than Strome, who often flubbed the puck when setting up, which meant less time in the o-zone for PP1 and the big guns to do their thing.
