While he's not gonna do anything crazy, scoring IS up in the NHL. Guys like Pettersson, Barzal, Matthews and even Laine scored near PPG in their rookie seasons. I think Kakko is as good of a prospect as any of the previously mentioned.Pprovided he can play 82 games I don't think 70 points is unrealistic as long as he gets to play on first PP. Don't think he necessarily needs to play with Panarin or Ziba to do it either, he creates a ton on his own.

Maybe not, but with his playmaking ability,... it would be better if he played with linemates who can finish. He and Panarin are a match made in heaven and should light up the board. I guess he could play with Kreider too, but with the Breadman it would be like Sunday morning at the bakery.

I edited this during the wc, you all have probably watched it already. Watching it Kakko really reprecent himself as the most dominant u18 player ever in a WC. That also to me makes Kakko a generational talent. I also think he will climb over 100 points hes rookie season, but this only if he gets some chemistry with the top players in rangers and play all 82 games, I stated it earlier in a Kaapo Kakko thread also. But this is just what I believe, to me its dumb to not say he is generational. I cant recall ever a u18 player being as dominant at Times as he was at WC. That and the fact that he broke the Liiga record for most goals by u18 player, he broke the record for being the youngest player ever with gold in u18, wjc and wc. And he really had big impact in getting those golds. In modern hockey era he simply has acomplished to much not be seen as generational.
I'm convinced it's still April and I've just dreamt an entire summer. Like this just isn't happening to the Rangers.

Where he plays makes a huge difference with this Rangers team.

With Panarin he could be deadly from the start, but if you ask him to drive a line at the start of his career at 18y I would lower the expectations by a mile.
He should be with one of Panarin or Zibanejad, if not both. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I doubt he'll score 100 points. But I also think 65 points as his ideal performance also is a bit conservative, considering I think Kakko will be better than Laine his first season. I certainly expect him to score more than Laine did.

"Certainly expecting" Kakko to outproduce 36 goals and 64 points (in not even a full season) is ridicolous.

What's the worst number he could choose? I think 36 is the worst hockey number.
33 would be weird. 33 looks weird. But maybe that makes it cool.

From the teams for training camp it seems that the idea is Panarin - Zibanejad - Buchnevich and Kreider - Chytil - Kakko, at least in the beginning.

I'm probably higher on Chytil than a lot of people here but I think he's going to have a breakout year. Kid has a ton of talent.
He certainly showed signs last year. Two end to end rushes for goals, a four or five game goal streak. Yeah there were definitely signs.

I definitely agree, I'm so curious to see how he's changed physically after an offseason's work. I really hope he's filled out and gotten stronger. He's a player that is still coming to grips with the NHL game, but the talent and creativity is evident.

I also feel like I'm one of the few who still believes his long term future is at center. I've always felt his skillset is conducive to him playing in the middle and he's always looked most comfortable and active to me there. Excited to see him get a chance to play with some highly skilled wingers, whatever the combination winds up being.

Who's the last guy to get 70+P in their D1 season, Kane? I know McDavid woulda done it if not for Brandon Manning

Laine had 70 in his D+1 season.

That was D2, he had 64 in D1...pretty sure it's Kane. And I think it was only Crosby before him going back to the late 90's - early 2000's.

Malkin and Oechkin also woulda done it if not for the lockout.

LTavares, Duchene, and Seguin all got pretty damn close. .

You're confusing D2 and D1 seasons (or maybe I am?) I Always thought D1 meant the season right after you were drafted, D2 was 2 years after you were drafted, etc...

Ah, I misunderstood. Thought by D+1 you meant their second season as opposed to their rookie year. Totally wrong on my part. Back to the coffee pot I go.

He’s still listed as #45 on the TC roster. I’d prefer something like 54 but that’s just me. 24 is so generic and reminds me of plugs and grinders.
