Kaapo Kakko näytti kaapin paikan Rangersin testeissä – ”Aika isoa roolia lähden hakemaan”

The coaches are pushing him but it doesn't help. Kravtsov's skating slows down and Kakko is once again faster.

Rangers coaches put their latest first round picks into an eight lap test which shows that Kaapo has focused on the right things during summer

-I think I'm in a good shape. Last time I did this test it felt a lot worse.

-We focused on strength and speed during this summer, they're the things you need in hockey.

-I think I'm around 90 kg (198 Freedom Units). I wont' get knocked over so easily.

-I'm going to try to get a big role. I like to play with the puck and playing on the fourth line wouldn't really please me.

Yeah, 65+ points is what I'm expecting, not hoping. But this is assuming 82 games played, let's remember that. I still don't know what's ridiculous about that, though.

What aspect of Kakko's play do you think will hold him back too much for that to be possible? I also think that Rangers as a team have vastly improved.

We're just arguing semantics here. Obviously I think it's highly possible Kakko gets 65+ points but im not expecting it. If he gets 50 points due to starting off slow as he's adjusting or whatever I'm not going to be disappointed with his season.

It's not really semantics, it's a difference in what we think about Kakko.

Despite of not knowing about the specifics of these tests that were taken yet still to stay ahead of Kratsov at every single one (who seems like a pretty fine skater himself) is mighty impressive. Since last season I already knew Kakko's stamina was borderline unnatural especially considering the age, but it definitely sounds like he's taken steps forward in skating in general during the summer and on top of everything he's almost already 200 lbs. A beast in the makings.

I hope that door to first line remains open and is tied up to showings instead of how many pro years one has under the belt.

I strongly believe Kakko will see time on the first line at least some stretches during the season. But I can understand why Quinn won’t do it right away too. Kakko has yet to play an NHL game, and this will give him something to work towards the first few days/weeks. It also opens up for Buchnevich to show what he’s got, while knowing Kakko is breathing down his neck.

Even then, the first 5-10 games is often to experiment with lineups and see what chemistry develops and what works. I’m not too worried.

I would be amazed if he can get 50+ points..all im sayin that he´s only 18 and NHL is not for teenagers.

Now we are underestimating him here! In sports betting Kakko's points over / under line is 59,5 points. Yes, it is highly speculative and that kind of special bet doesn't count as an actual betting market - but still - expecting 65 points is not ridiculous or bad expectation. I think it's closer to realistic expected point total than 50 points. Altough I had to decrease my prediction a bit after I heard coach isn't putting him on top line right away. He'll hit 60 even in second line & PP I think. :)

NHL is most definitely for talented enough teenagers.

I just enjoy that he’s scientifically proven to be a freak of nature. Imagine him at 21-22.
