For reference it looks like he's squatting with 160kg there (140kg in weights + 20kg bar, in freedom units it's 353lbs). Can't know how many reps obviously. Gym culture in Finland is pretty intense though, I have no doubts that he is doing proper deep squats.

Jesus, we might as well start calling him Brodeur Jr. Look at that gigantic gut hanging down to his knees. And those jowls? Super concerned for his health and future. Hope Buch told him about the American wunder-diet Weight Watchers before he left.

Also unrelated to athletes, but here are two pictures of Demi Lovato:

All it takes is a weird angle and weird lighting and you turn an otherwise attractive woman in to Sloth from The Goonie's daughter in a snapshot.
To be fair there's a lot more going on there than just a weird angle and weird lighting. That Zip the What Is It haircut, for one.

Hall of famers Joe Corvo and Michael Grabner ^^

Greatest goal scorer of all time.

He’s not a body builder he’s a hockey player.

Ha, that Grabner picture surprised me.

In all honestly, I think we talk about how everyone can learn to skate and what not, but really, 1/20 was born to do it for some reason that is hard to explain from an evolutionary POV and the rest of us is just screwed from birth… ;)

Grabner was a fantastic skater, but obviously not thanks to his off ice habits.

This is my character in Assassins Creed Valhalla in modern gym clothes.

That is his trainer! The son of a legendary trainer in Finland that has taken over a group working out in Åbo during the off season. You can’t tell, but I actually think he (the trainer) was an elite track&field athlete back in the day.

These guys will have a lot of fun at work, I can tell. There will be tremendously dry Finnish style humor. Basically as far from a high five that it’s possible to come. ;)

What is Finnish humor? Basically you pretend that you are 100% socially handicapped. And then you just compete in saying the weirdest things or just compete in how crazy you can act. Walk into the dressing room being quiet. Maybe nod to someone and say something super formal. Talk in riddles. Always from an angle that you are a bit paranoid and depressed.

Kakko is gaining the weight he needs and hes doing it the right way.

Combine plyometric workouts with heavy lifting and calorie packing and you gain weight. Good weight. Which will be shed down a bit once hes on the ice every day again and its more difficult to replace the calories.

But he's not fat, at all. He's got a large frame and hes filling out. Nothing more nothing less.

This kid is going to be a beast if he keeps working out with Mikko.

An absolute truck

Mikko himself was closer to 200 when he came in the league and now hes up around 215-220 and hes 24.

Well, Rantanen is 4 years older than him so maybe some day in the future...

yeah, and a significant number of Rangers ages are South of that 24 years. Most of which are physically still growing.

Some still question the Rangers adding not only grit but a Ryan Reaves? Really?

that is not a woman as of like 3 months ago. Get with the times. It's a them. Themi Lovato. Just correcting for 2021. Getting pronouns wrong is pretty much the worst sin one can commit these days. I forgive you though.

lol you should see some of the weights the NFL guys hit. Insane. Even on my highschool football team, 300ib wasn't that rare to see. We were benching 200lb and squatting 300lb pretty regularly at 16-17. I mean, for some guys, that was around their MAX, so not multiple reps. But for some they'd do 20-30 reps in that range. Then some other guys were off the charts though. In college that goes up a bit, benching between 225-300 is pretty regular. Squatting goes from like 300 to 400 and higher in college. But the pros, that's different level. NFL is a freakish world of its own though, especially the O-linemen/d-linemen.

Larry Allen squatted 905 lbs

500lb is the NFL squat AVERAGE.

Hockey is just a different sport. The combine from years past featured a pretty insignificant bench while the cardio is off the charts. Quite a few high school fball players have more strength than these NHL players while the NHL player flies by them in a blink. The Division I fball players, forget it strengthwise.

Oh yea, completely. I think in the long run, Rugby might be 2nd to the NFL in that department. But after Football and Rugby, I think soccer and hockey are probably neck and neck for that 3rd position in terms of leg press, squatting and general leg strength work. NBA and MLB at least, definitely behind the others for the most part. Lol. MLB and Cricket are their own things really. You don't see too many Cecil Fielders, David Wells' and Tony Gwynns in the other sports leagues. At least, you don't need to be the best natural athlete to play pro. You do need maybe the best hand eye coordination though, out of all the sports. That's really the top MLB/Cricket skill that's required, above all others. Probably similar to Nascar. Who are actually pretty strong, and Forumla 1 even more so. It takes a lot of strength to stay primed on the brakes and steering, especially for continuous lengths of time. But if you don't have the hand eye coordination you could end up dead, so, it's pretty important there.
