Go to give credit where credit is due and Holl has been playing great since January. I’m happy since he’s been doing it without Muzzin.

It seems like he goes through stretches of being bad and then being good. Hopefully the bad stretch doesn’t come back and if he does get it out of your system before the playoffs.

Great is a bit of an overstatement.
Dangerous proposition IMO having him in the top 4 come playoff time.

i prefer him on the bottom pair and want to upgrade on him. I have talked bad about
him in the past so I think it’s only fair to give him credit for playing good.

Yeah it seems to be pretty much universal that he's the weak link that needs to be upgraded.

Well I was never once in my entire playing career as a defender in GTA with Marlies and/or with Wolves to leave guy standing on goal line in blue ice alone .. most goals are scored in blue ice .. there may have been other mistakes but that one was a CARDINAL sin which led to goal .. i can see as a former pro defender it is due to lack of proper training

Stepan wasn’t in the blue paint? He was beside the R post behind the goal line and moved in only after the shot was taken.

Also the slot is the most dangerous area on the ice, you’re pretty much saying Holl should’ve let the lone shooter have all the time he wants in an open lane in the slot.

This is getting stupid here now .. Stephan WAS NEVER BEHIND da goal line .. someone was kind enough to post da video back a page or two i suggest you actually watch it .. he was beside da Right post always in front of net .. 3 Canes 3 Leafs .. Sandin had skater .. JT/Mrkzak had shooter and DUMB DUMB should have had Stephan and guess what happens there .. NO GOAL AGAINST .. if tender misses slot shot oh well that is hockey it happens .. it was HOCKEY 101 defense and it was not played properly .. like I said it was played like an ATOM defense who thinks he is Bobby Orr .. and this is precisely Holl's problem .. he has HIGHLY limited skills .. and I mean really highly limited skills .. one of my kids who ended up moving/playing in Europe but was in leaf system for a couple years said he has defensive brain of a 10 year old ..

justin holl is 6'4 and a strong guy, outside of one hit last game lol he plays far too weak in front of his own net, sandin is much smaller and fights for space much more effectively.
hes also a disaster on outlet passes, on a team that relies on quick outlets to the forward group to breakout.

sandin and lily arent perfect but they have a way higher celing than holl and are much younger, both holl and dermott need to be replaced imo.

I cant wait until we get bounced in the first round again and read all the statistics of how great we were

statistics may be on to build a team for the regular season but playoffs are a whole new beast

referees put their whistles away

if holl is in our top 4 we will get bounced

he is too soft for a big man who plays top 4

I like Holl. Good value for what he brings. For some reason a lot of leaf fans just need someone to hate every year.

+/- doesn't mean jack shit

OK how about just goals against, then?

Funny thing is everyone wants to replace Holl or the kids with someone like Bogo (though most of the names mentioned aren't even as good as Bogo).

He was complete dog sh*t again last night .. 2 goals all his fault from complete lack of defensive understanding and skill .. he thought he was bobby Orr again .. OMG such a trash defender .. not even worth NHL salary MIN .. when Leafs tried to trade him Dubie finally figured out what others in league think .. we way overpaid for a Dubie failed project

Finally came to the conclusion on what bugs me with Holl. He's a poorly managed player whom the team has cast as a Jeff Petry top four, do everything 6'4" player - because we don't have many of those options.

But he's encouraged to make plays he has no business trying to make offensively and as a result of having that loose leash has no idea what his limitations are as a player. Instead of focusing on being reliable defensive defenseman who can play a simple role, he roams around the ice like he's Alex Pietrangelo, gets too deep in the offensive zone, and thinks he can be the trigger man on a passing play sequence.

Do less, and do it properly.
