Slaf was drafted to be a power forward and he plays like he believes he’s a skilled forward like Hughes.
Then our drafting department needs to be fired because I don't think he ever played line one, even in the only place he ever produced offense...WC and Olympics.

Xhekaj may very well outproduce him in points and that's no slight to Arber.

Like Pacioretty, Slaf was drafted to be a skill based big body forward, not a brut strength power fwd like Tkachuk.

Again like Pacioretty, that brut strength / piss & vinegar game was never in his DNA & never will be
Problem is Slaf doesn't have half the skill of all the comps I am seeing in this thread. Rantanen at 12 years old was better than current Slaf

Exactly. At least we can thank god we didn't draft that mutt, Shane Wright. 2 goals in 24 AHL playoff games. Slafkovsky will find his way.

Must’ve missed the part where none of the expected top picks from 2022 draft were projected to be elite players, let alone HOFers like the comparables…

BTW - How did Pacioretty look at age 19?

He is reading the NHL play so much better, it's almost like he learned stuff last year.
He might even get his 2nd point at some point in the season.

The two below comments are from the main board thread. Absolutely nothing new but it sets the baseline of what he was in Liiga when 99.9% of us hadn't had a chance to see him. From this description he doesn't look much different today, except he can't yet leverage his body in the NHL, at NHL speeds, as well as he could in Liiga.
This isn’t new news.

This talk about “he looks good” but without any production reminds me of what we went through with Kotkaniemi.
He’s going to have to start putting up points.
You mean 23 yr old Kotkaniemi who is over ppg currently?

Let's hope Slaf taps into his potential similarly... And that this management group is smarter than the last one (& the impatient whinny segment of the fan base) & sticks with the player as he matures.

Did Kohtkaniemi ever have a stretch where he had 1 assist in 21 games with the fanbase praising every footstep he made? Slafkovsky stinks. What a waste of a pick.

Yes. In 2019-20 Kotkaniemi had a 28 game stretch to end the season where he only managed 1 assist. Add the 10 playoff games and it was 38 games straight with only 1 assist.

Are we resulting to lying now?

Your graph conveniently leaves out end of November and December where he scored 3 goals. It even says on your graph he had 4 goals and one assist in the time you’re displaying. You said he had one assist. That’s a lie.
You said a stretch with 1 assist. I gave you that. You should have specified points.

But go ahead and look at Kotkaniemi’s 2020-21 game log where he literally ends the season with 1 total point (an assist) in the last 19 games.

Maybe you should research things before making points that can easily be refuted

Are we arguing about KK and Slaf production?
Both are overhyped
Both shouldnt have started in the nhl
Both were drafted at the wrong time during the draft.

We are on that level when he lands a pass or hit the goalie with a wrister , we say he played a good game or had a good period.

All I see at this point is a Wish version of Anderson

Ylonen has showed way better stuff offensively and plays on a 4th line with no PP time.

At one moment you gotta wonder why this is going all wrong. We are butchering his progress , we are talking about a player we picked 1st oa.

We definitely rushed KK and I think part of that was positional need. At least as a winger, we can give Slaf more time to just figure things out and put things together. long term patience will pay off

I think it’s time for a trial on the top line.

I’d like to see him play with more highly skilled linemates. Yes, it will be higher quality of opposition, but that’s fine. Try it out until Dvo returns. Then go Monahan/Slaf on line #2.
I don’t know if it would work to be honest. The top line is struggling to get offensive pressure. They’re chasing the puck a lot.

Dach was perfect. Now that he’s gone I am again inclined to send this guy to the AJL. Let him dominate with Roy. Then they both come up next year.

Axl with a message for Habs fans on Slaf

Why is he in the NHL?

The problem is not young Slafkovsky, it’s what it’ll mean if HuGoBo and MSL got this catastrophically wrong — from drafting him to rushing him to keeping him up. If they got it wrong at so many points, what else have they got wrong? Maybe they’re the wrong people to run this team… failing with Slaf has devastatingly bad implications.

Most commentators who equivocate for Slafkovsky know this but are desperate for it to be not true. They’d rather lie about seeing progress than admit that Slaf is so far behind that any progress they claim to see is still not enough. Patience? How about being patient enough to let him cook in the AHL or Europe?
