I think he’s completely lost without the puck both offensively and defensively, so I’m going to go with low IQ.

He's probably an average/slightly above average IQ player thus, sometimes you see a big gap in new situations, and sometimes you do not see it at all, depending if he has already recognized a pattern. In the NHL, where most regulars are probably 1 standard of deviation above average, it's just harder to adapt to than in any other league where the average is the population average (IQ peers for Slaf).

Such players can still be effective, assuming that what they do is hard to stop in first principles and Slaf has a LOT of that going for him. He's far bigger than anyone, even in the NHL, and can do everything with power. The key here will be for him to learn a set of high-confidence plays / situations he can repeat repeatedly without relying on analysis too much. This is the main difference between Rantanen and Slaf.

Dach has a bit of the same issues, but only because top 6 centers in the NHL tend to need to be closer to 2 standards of deviation (McDavid, Point, Crosby, Hughes, Zegras, Suzuki, Bedard etc.) to have a real playmaking edge. Dach is probably average for an NHL top 6 center, so his edge on this in juniors has disappeared. This does not mean he can't do well, it means he needs to learn to play on strengths he is not used to playing on with his body (he's doing it).

Well at least theres something to talk about. This whole development doesnt exist vs development exist debate has been going on for decades now and the size debate too lol. At some point you have to realize theres no evangelism for flat earther level of cognitive dissonance
For the record...I never thought that's what the debate was about.

More about where/how development can happen.

That last line though lol nasty work.

Shane Wright is BRILLIANT!

He cleverly arranged to get just one assist in 4 exhibition games with the Kraken!!!

As a result. Seattle, which stupidly assigns NHL slots by merit, demoted Shane to the AHL.

Shane gets the last laugh though. He will gain confidence and be the Kraken's 1st line center next year, leapfrogging over all the players who currently are performing better than him.

Wright is doin' it right!!

Wright actually had two assists, but why are you talking about him in this thread?

Anyone saw Oshie obliterate Fantilli tonight?

Should Fantilli be babysitted and sent to the AHL because it might be too dangerous for him or actually experiencing it and learning from it is a good idea?
Honestly Fantilli got his head at the last second and was able to absord the hit, he was not injured on that play.

He needs to produce to be effective, but I think he was cut because he needs to use his body not just his stick in 1 on 1 puck battles. He also needs to improve his faceoffs.

Very reassuring game tonight. The compete, stamina, skill and positioning (on offense) were all very good and well above what you usually see from 19 year olds. Hope this is a sign of things to come as he looked ready. He clearly has a nasty side that'll grow with time.

I thought he was physically engaged tonight. He looked even stronger than Dach at times.

He's going to be a beaut. Don't know how it will translate into the points column, but he's going to be a crucial player in the playoffs eventually.
