Mike Johnson mentioned how much velocity Slaf had from his shot without really leaning into it which is a testament to his strength. The second goal was a laser, must have been near 100 mph and once he can get his shot off quicker he will be a force, probably a 30-goal player that also plays a strong two-way game.
There was a video a month or two back of him working with the Shot Dr. He was working on receiving a pass and quick release. Clearly this has been a focus for the coaching staff for a while now, and it is beginning to pay off. That toe drag quick release last night was beauty and the slapper was awesome too. Big body, big strength.....heavy heavy shot.
Slaf returning from his All-Star break....

I think both of those guys read your post, and well, we saw what happened!!!Slaf - and Nick - need to shoot a lot more. I don’t get why Suzuki doesn’t fire off more, he’s got a great shot.
Slaf’s a work in progress.
Sometimes you have to be lucky to be good. It is becoming increasingly apparent that with respect to Slafkovsky, on top of everything else: we were lucky. You weren't alone in your initial assessment. I was clamoring for him to be sent to Laval. Habs drafted the right player 1OA.
His first couple goals last year were nice rips too. Also a beauty one-timer. The shot’s been dormant but it’s thereAll I know is Slaf actually sniped 2 beautiful goals. First time I have seen him truly release his shot. Usually it's been a tip or banging in a rebound.
He has a real good shot. If he now has the confidence to shoot, we could see his game take the next step.

First 2 goal game last night. Continues to grow exponentially. Plays a heavy game. Previously, even his most ardent backers (like me) identified his shot as something he needs to work on.forums.hfboards.com

There is no certain path to success. Each player is unique. Some will thrive against stronger opposition. Some will be overwhelmed. But the good/ skilled athletes will generally succeed whatever path they follow. Too much angst has been expended, in my opinion, on this player’s journey to success.I have gone on the record that I was one of the most pessimistic of the entire fanbase on this pick and am sincerely happy to be proven wrong on that.
Since we're eating and serving crow, I did say that it didn't matter whether slaf played in the nhl or ahl or Europe, we just had to wait till he turned into whatever he turned into.
Looks like last season didn't ruin him after all.
Me patiently waiting for the troll responses to trickle in.....YOU ARE NOT SORRY! DO NOT LIE TO US PLEASE!

Haha, now I get it, your the HFHabs Spagett!
There's an expectation that if you're starting off in the NHL as a teenager, it means you HAVE to be a dominant/productive player. There is no certain path to success. Each player is unique. Yes, and I think we knew that, as opposed to wondering if he had a shot. We were just waiting for him to use it. I did wonder a couple of times when he had the chance to shoot but he just took so long to get it away it was easily stopped. I wondered if he had the quickness, and now that's answered. Confidence is a wonderful thing. His first couple goals last year were nice rips too. Also a beauty one-timer. The shot’s been dormant but it’s there
Imagine how much further behind in his development he'd be if he spent the past season and a half playing in an inferior league, with inferior teammates, coaching, facilities and resources? There's an expectation that if you're starting off in the NHL as a teenager, it means you HAVE to be a dominant/productive player.
That's a myth that's going to have to disappear because there's going to be more and more teams embedding their 1st round picks into the NHL as teenagers and success isn't going to come right off the bat for all of them.
Sensing a bit of sarcasm here…lolImagine how much further behind in his development he'd be if he spent the past season and a half playing in an inferior league, with inferior teammates, coaching, facilities and resources?
I think the growing pains of last year created the player we are starting to see today. Steel sharpens steel
He still has to work on his shot, and will likely do so in the off-season. With improvement, the confidence will follow.Man, this kid needs to get his shot off more often. He had a couple nice ones last season, but for the most part his goals have been weird deflections/rebounds/bang-ins this year. Ripped 2 f***in beauts last night.
well yesterday was the first time he scored 2 goals that weren't shots that were aimed at the scoreboard that miraculously pinball'd themselves into the net so
