Just saying it's OBVIOUSLY great to see him succeed. It,s actually PREFERABLE. But the hindsight views of no to the AHL is laughable when actually we've sent Mesar in
There's no hindsight view over here, I always thought the NHL was the best place for him to develop in. There was a stretch of about 5-10 games earlier this season where I thought a trip to Laval would have been beneficial, but other than that…

Nothing hindsight in my current take right now.
juniors...Hutson will be in Montreal at 20 or 21 if he doesn't go to Laval, when Reinbacher is in Europe etc....Usually, players go through normal development stages. Being in the NHL at 18 is NOT a normal stage. But in HIS case, it does pay off 'cause there's no setbacks.

But he would have been in tihe AHL last year, and come in this year in the NHL...and nobody would have said that we f***ed up his development.
Again, I'm not sure why you bring up other players.

Development isn't about applying cookie cutter approaches.

LOL, no way. You can't make the adjustment to the NHL playing weith and against sixth liners.

One can argue that the hindrance from going down to the AHL would not be permanent, but no way would Slaf be where is NOW had he stayed in the AHL until the date Joshua Roy came up this year for instance.

Had Brady Tkachuk played two seasons in Belleville, do you think he would have come up to Ottawa and earned the captaincy almost immediately?
Other than the early captaincy and total career points, I don’t think either Tkachuk’s performance would have been different this season if they had spent 2 seasons in the AHL.

No difference?

So if spend three years in the AHL, his rookie season at age 21 he would havde scored 30 goals and 67 points? No adaptation period at all?

Cooley is still ahead in points this season in less games and points percentage overall, with similar icetime on the 4th line with 2 literal nobodies but who wants to hear that haha SLAF DA BEAST

Its still too early to tell though , Not sure why people write stuff like this on twitter like its set in stone lol. And I love slaf.

Slaf is already doing things defensively at 19 I don't think Cooley will be doing anytime soon. He is soft. He can have some more points good for him good thing is there's more to hockey than pure production.

Either way, in 2024, there's not a single NHL team whose leaving a lottery pick in the AHL for 3 freakin’ years.

But I get what you're saying and agree with it.

Exactly. Both Tkachuk’s went straight in the NHL. Their dad beat the shit out of minor leaguers for two seasons. On Keith’s 1st full season in the NHL, which was his sons‘ 3rd season, all three were 2nd on their team in goal-scoring. If Keith would have made the NHL straight away I believe he would have had his same two 50 goal seasons, but he wouldn’t have done any better, like score 60.

And if you were a bit more informed,
You'd know , that we know, Cooley has been PP1 since the start of the year for Zona , and got a bunch of his points on the PP early, and has tailed off a bit lately

While we had Gallagher and Anderson on PP1 for the first 2 months.
Would be interesting to see how many more points he'd have with as much PP time as Cooley, and you know, all those games he played next to the corpse of Anderson did wonders for his production as well.

But no yeah, you keep it up lmao

would you take Cooley over Slafkovsky if you had to re-do the draft?

You’re in luck. Arizona would gladly give you a super speedy undersized peripheral pass first player for Slaf any day of the week. Everyone ends up happy!😃

it will be a few years to see who the best player of that draft is, I still like Cooley, Cutter Gauthier,McGroarty .. some sweet talent there to be honed. Slaf would benefit from a better team no doubt, some kids are going to teams much further along and can be slotted in for success a little easier. Hope the kid continues his success we need him to

Lol it's worst then that now for that question actually
I myself wanted Cooley, I admit it freely.

But if I had to pick between Slaf+DACH(which people forget is the reason they didn't go for either C) or Cooley+Romanov today?

It's a very , very , veeeery easy answer right now. And for the foreseeable future

(And you weren't even asking me lol but I had to chime in with the extra variables)

I can also remember early, Slaf setting up guys like Anderson, who for the first 20 games couldn't score in a soccer net...............the kid could easily have 5-7 more points, not to mention he was no where near the PP1.
Looking forward, the kid is developing on the fly, and we all should be happy about this!!

If the Habs today, were to redo the draft..........Slaf is still there guy, no disrespect to Cooley at all, they are both going to be good players. Slaf's size and skill that is being honed right now, is rare....

Lol hell, even the first handful of games he was finally with Cole, CC was in a lil slump and even HE was missing Slaf setups lol

He could easily be at 30 pts right now

Who would't ? But Slaf is playing in the most demanding hockey market in the World. He has played barely the equivalent of one full season over two years so far, was injured badly last season. He will be only 20 at the end of March. He is becoming slowly but surely what he was advertised.
