Where would you prefer Slaf spend his 23-24 season?

Anderson is having an impressive streak of bad luck. He had the same streak I believe his last season in Columbus. He’s getting shots on net and chances.

Slaf’s been looking very good, but he doesn’t seem the scoring.type at all. I think Anderson might still score tonight. I’ve come to expect Slaf not to score.

If you have one critical shift tonight and you absolutely need a goal, who would you put between Slaf and Anderson? I would probably still go with Anderson.

Who cares?

Anderson is a career 35 points per 82 games career average. 3rd liner at best production. His "bad luck" means he should have 8 or 9 points by now, but the coaching staff is acting like he's Auston Matthews in some kind of unheard of slump. His hands can't put the puck in the net, they need to get over it and move on.

They are supposed to be rebuilding and guys like him and Gallagher and Dvorak need to take a back seat to the younger players on this team for better or for worse. Enough is enough. This team is trying to cobble together wins for some unknown reason. May as well get Jacques Martin back and try and eek into the playoffs by winning games 1-0.

Compared to the Gomez streak, I really feel Anderson will score at some point and the tap will open. Gomez had little opportunities, wouldn’t get his nose dirty and he physically couldn’t put any power on his shot, it seemed something physical was not working any more.

I’m annoyed by Anderson, I’d rather give Slaf a chance, but I think MSL doesn’t care about the tank, he want’s to win. Montreal can’t score. He needs to get goals. And he feels he’ll get many more goals from Anderson if he gets on a roll than he’ll ever get from Slaf.

I don’t think this is a fair conclusion to make.

Concern about the Habs’ ability to develop a forward of note is plenty warranted. We can celebrate when Slaf becomes an impact player and we can be relieved that he’s finally looking stable enough in the NHL. That’s fine enough, isn’t it?

You’re back!

I've not gone anywhere. Post #6615 in this thread was a response to @waitin425 who tagged me in a question about the big picture with Slafkovsky. See if you disagree, but it seems that commentator and I can understand each other in good faith. We all want what's best for the Habs.

Patience is a virtue.........this has been a grind from 2017 on.......................we had the #1 pick, quite possibly on the wrong year, but I still think Slaf will be a good player.
I see a lot of promise there, albeiit a slow progression.

@Goldenhands i know you were real high on Slaf at the draft. How would you rate what we’ve seen him from him this far in the nhl? Any aspects of his game that you think would’ve translated much faster in the nhl ?

Slaf for some reason plays well with Dvorak. I thought the Slaf/Dvorak/Ylonen line was our best line in third period. Playing him with Pearson and Evans in first period Slaf looked lost.

Yes, but having done so allows you to say "I need to get my confidence back" when things don't go you way at an upper level.

You know there was once confidence for an extended period of time, you don't have to make it up in your head, like Slafkovsky.

To be a 1st overall pick in the NHL, i would easily guess that he dominated players 2-3 years older than him all his life up until 17 years old.

Not the same thing as dominating one of the top junior leagues in the world.

Well, when I dress a list, its all about long term projections, who I think is going to have the biggest impact down the road, not who will play in the NHL first or rack the most pts early on.

As we saw in the recent drafts with Jack Hughes, Byfield, Lafreniere, Power, Fantilli, Dach ect, some kids take a bit longer to adapt to the NHL, even Leo Carlsson skips games this year because of the buzy schedule and crazy traveling. So I had no real expectation about Slaf last year in term of points after spending his draft year playing in Liiga where the systems are quite different. Last year was an adaptation process to the new culture, new schedule, different system, more physical hockey, less time and space ect and all I wanted to see was improvement. I was fine with either AHL or NHL and as expected, he had his up and down showing some nice things, but some rawness too. Was playing with his head down too much, what caused him to get knocked down a couple of times, struggled to adjust to the lack of time and space of the league, what is perfectly normal in the circumstances, his boards work wasnt what it is right now, kid was exhausted at the end of his shifts and struggled to maintain a consistent effort level, what is different now after spending a good part of his off season training working on his cardio.

So the improvements are there and signifiant in comparison to last season, he looks more and more like the skilled PF I foresee in his draft year, its all a matter of translating those tools to the best league of the world and becoming the best version of himself at the end, what the coaching staff, Adam Nicholas and cie are working together to make sure he can achieve that potential.

Only thing I would like Slaf to do better right now would be his decision making around the net, right now he is still too hesitant and doesnt trust his shot enough. I think it will come as his confidence grows, but thats one point I would say he needs to get better, stop overthinking and convert those scoring chances.

I feel like the Slaf/Dvorak/Ylonen has a mix of grit/scorer/playmaker and hockey IQ mixed into it. That's why it worked well. Pearson and Evans are career grinders with low IQ, maybe put Anderson on that line as well.

I think that there is an end goal when it comes to trying to win games. You don't want a group of young guys going through 10-game losing streaks just because you want to secure a top 5 pick. They have to learn how to win along the way, as well as learn from the inevitable losses that come because of a young and somewhat undertalented roster.

Buffalo hasn't made the playoffs in 12 years and hasn't learned how to win along the way, Ottawa is going through similar things, and let's not forget the Edmonton Oilers. We have to believe that there is an end goal that they want to achieve with this group of players.

Really agree 100%. But can you go from putzing around with the puck to having that nose for the net at 19?

Dvorak line be good second line for us rest of season. As long as Slaf continues to play well with Dvorak. Like to get some linemates for Monahan to pump up his trade value though. Tough call.

Clearly his game is progressing , it will take a bit of time but I have little doubt that he'll get there.

When did Slaf dominate any league, ever?
