Where would you prefer Slaf spend his 23-24 season?

Changing votes is ridiculous and honest posters won't bother.

I wonder how many of the 183 honestly still think he should spend this whole season in the AHL?

Was a pretty bad assessment back in September/October (AHL/NHL was reasonable, but AHL only or Europe only were always poor takes), but now?

I honestly don't know how a person could watch the way he's playing and still believe he belongs anywhere other than the NHL :dunno:

Thats the thing. I'm convinced some don't watch. They scan the stat line only and make bombastic statements. The usual suspects. None of them will admit if they are wrong.

There’s probably very little posters that believe he can’t play in the NHL under any capacity. The debate usually centres on if his offensive game will progress more in a slower or faster game.

Completely disagree.

Personally I think last year he shouldn’t have been in the NHL. And he got off to a bad start this year.

A big part of that is usage but posters can only go based on what they see. It’s really only since being moved up that I’ve felt he looks like he really belongs here.

So, no I don’t think it was silly of posters to think that at all. You can only go with what you’ve seen. Personally I think it would be a real mistake to move a player down when he’s playing his best hockey. Glad we’ve moved him up and hope he stays here. But I don’t think posters were crazy for thinking he should start in the AHL. It made good sense to argue that way, esp with Dach going down and Slaf struggling early on.

I think this is probably true in some cases. There was a poster in the thread today saying he needed to work on his passing… which has probably been the strongest part of his game in recent weeks.

So yeah, I think of lot of it comes from (some) people who aren’t paying attention to what’s going on in these games.

The debate on one side is usually just posting sarcastic remarks whenever he has a bad game. Very seldomly do you actually see people arguing in good faith about this player.
We’ve played easier teams. It will get harder as the year goes on. So I expect that he’ll have some slow spots later.

It doesn’t matter though, he’s progressing well and for now that’s good enough. It really sucks that he doesn’t have more points already. Even today he could’ve easily had three or four.

The answer when he isn't playing well, shouldn't always be to send him down to the AHL.

He had a solid preseason, great first game, then he had a stretch where he struggled and he's played his best hockey the last 5-6 games.

This is what development (in the NHL no less!) looks like at all levels. It's the same for Cooley in Arizona or Jiricek in Columbus, same for Nemec or Wright in the AHL.

It's just way more difficult to get the results (production) at this level.

Development isn't just Filip Mesar scoring 2PPG in the OHL.

The question is whether it was a bad assessment at the time. I don’t think it was based on the facts at hand.

It's EMBARRASSING to see Habs fans taking part in this poll and almost 60 percent of them STILL want him to be playing elsewhere than the NHL. Anyone who has not changed his negative vote has some 'splaining to do.
Well, what was my vote? A mix of AHL and NHL. I still stand that this would be the best route for steady progress.

You can shove you embarrassment somewhere else

Anytime a players struggling, I'm going to suggest he get sent down, because every f***ing time he proves me wrong.

Bigger, longer, lankier players definitely take longer. You guys are exactly where us Kings fans were at last year with Byfield. You can see the potential but it's not always showing up on the score sheet. Patience. The guys 19. He will be a beast
The problem is many didn't even see the potential. That's the part that got me. Debating where he should play? Fine. But I'm not going to listen to anyone who thinks 40 pt ceiling 'if we're lucky'.

That was bananas.

It took Dach until last year to realize “holy shit I’m big” when I think Gudas went to hit him and Gudas fell. Then it just clicked and he started playing like a force.

Not sure what moment happened to Slaf recently, but it’s like he’s finally starting to realize exactly how big he is. I can’t wait to see him at 22-23 years old when he’s fully coordinated and filled out.

For Price sake, can we take a step back please? Slafkovsky is not even 60 games into his NHL career, and he is already considered to be on the second line.

And there are people, fans of our own team (!) who think his progress is being SLOWED DOWN by being here instead of Laval, Finland, Slovakia or Junior.

It's insane.

You forgot girthy.

At 230lbs, he is both lengthy and girthy.

It's because he looked terrible with no real redeeming qualities or outstanding skills except for some decent passes few and far between, as well as his HYOOGE size.
The kid is 19. And was playing in the NHL and scoring when he was 18. Anyone who was writing this kid off was expressing unreasonable impatience.
