He wasn't most fans' consensus pick -certainly not habs fans. But He's 19, and still growing into his body. He was injured last year and still figuring it out early this year. He admitted as much recently that it was all too fast for him.
People forget how young he is, especially those with their dumb, troll takes *see above
He has really improved significantly over the last 20 games; at a shockingly quick rate.
Personally I see him as a 35 goal, 70 pt winger who does a lot of the heavy lifting for either suzuki or Dach.
Not the greatest 1st round pick, but a legit top 6 forward with large size (6'3, 230)

Well, I think most fans wanted Wright, so you're right that he wasn't the fan's pick.

Either way, I think it's absolutely asinine to make posts about a 19 year concluding that he's the worst #1 draft pick of all time.

Forget whatever bias a fan might have for or against a player or organization, what sense does it make to conclude on a 19 year old kid?

I feel like this thread is a product of that insane take, but calling him a unicorn at this point isn't that much of a better take than the worst #1 pick of all time.

I can confirm that this thread is indeed a product of that insane take. Early Unicorn take for sure....but that size/skill combo is something else isn't it?

This thread is a hilarious representation of what happens when ~1/5 the Montreal board actually comes onto the main board to counter the ridiculous trolling.

That bar was pretty early to be declared… 19 years old for god’s sake.

He’s lost about 5/10 pounds in the summer just to give you an idea…

Ya, anyone staying in the 225-235 range playing nhl is just built. Idk, obviously there are those dudes who just mature young, but if you max out at 210 that doesn’t really give you an edge, lots of NHLers are that size. If you can move at 220+, though, that actually is an advantage.

Idk, just feels like sometimes we focus on height and ignore weight/build. Ovi has done well at 220-230, obviously Slaf isn’t projected to be that, just saying it’s worth checking weight as much as height.

The bust talk was hilarious. While most 1st overall forwards probably do play in the NHL at 18, it doesn’t mean every one should. He could have benefited from the AHL, but it’s appearing now that wasn’t necessary and he just needed to adapt to the NHL game.

Maybe people should have more patience with prospects and not jump all over management on day one
In light of his performance at the Olympics and World's two years ago - yeah, I know the competition wasn't the best but he was 17 at the time so still impressive - I suspected there was reason for optimism with him. Unfortunately, Bedard wasn't draft eligible in 2022.
