Tanner Glass is responsible for the economy, for the Rangers losing 3 OT games in the SCF, for World Hunger, MidEast issues, etc.

Tanner Glass is the anti Chuck Norris :D

Prediction: Tanner Glass scores the Cup winning goal for NYR.

Yeah, and I wanna see Glass play here in NY too instead of reading a few Pitt crybabies cry about him. 90 percent of the Pitt fans are extreme bandwagoneers and don't have a clue what they are talking about anyway.

Adjustments are harder to be made when we stole 1.5 mil from a possibly good player and gave it to Glass.

Could've given part of that to Winnik, or Stemp, or Gibbons. All incredibly superior players.

What? Adjustment within the 1-2 mil range for the 4th-line is SUPER-easy. Probably the easiest tweak you can make on a roster in the game.

I've been on youtube watching Pitt games this season and fastforwarding to Glass' shifts. He doesnt have a problem getting around the ice and he doesn't have horrible puck skills in terms of getting and moving the puck. I just get the sense that he doesn't really know what he should be doing on any given shift so he kind of just wonders around.

I'd say of all the 4th line types that we've seen roll through NY, he most compares to Asham. Maybe like a poor-mans Asham.

All in all, he's not the absolute worst player in the league but it doesn't take too much investigation to see that he is not a desirable player to acquire.

Some times fans don't understand this and they just want to complain and act like it's the end of the world

Or it could be that we just had the most effective 4th line since the days of Renney and saw how important it is to our success. Maybe we've seen enough tweaking of that line throughout the year. Depth is what wins.

What was the 4th line on July 3 last preseason?

You can say this on any given day at any point in the season. The point is people are wondering why we gave a 3 year deal to this guy with all the 1 year deals that have been given out. I don't see the problem with that. The team is strapped by the cap and roster numbers.

The 3 year deal is the much bigger issue than the $.

But, with a contract that cheap, he can be waived, released, or traded, or demoted. It's not that big of a deal. If it doesn't work out there'll be a team well under the Cap who can use an NHL player and give us a 7th round pick back.

Why? Because our coach, who just coached us to a SC-loss, went to war with Tanner Glass in his previous team and he should know more than any of us here. It's his choice and after this season, I will stand by it until I am proven otherwise. Especially since it's at the price of a mere 1.45m(!). If it doesn't work, it's still the most adjustable position in our team.

Taylor Pyatt was pretty good for AV on Vancouver as well.

Look for the record I got caught up in all of this by simply saying I rather would've had Winnik but he might be asking a lot since he's not signed yet. I don't post much, I wasn't one of the guys freaking out 2 days ago about this. There's other guys I would've went for, whatever. Some people are okay with the constant tweaking of the 4th line, personally I'm not but that's fine. Teams tend to have more success with depth and rolling 4 lines.

I know we can waive him or do whatever with him, it's just the principle of making the move when there's that thought behind it.

I don't understand the fuss with Winnik. Granted, I haven't seen him play much in the past two years, but I don't remember him being all that impressive on Colorado a few years back and he just seems like a big lug who doesn't do much, kind of like Pyatt. Can someone give me an accurate description of what kind of player he is and who he's comparable to?

Yeah, it's the price of a mere 2/3rd's(!) Brian Boyle (who is three times the player!)

Yes, it sucks that Boyle wanted a bigger role than Rangers/AV could/wanted to give him. But that's out of this organizations control. Boyle made his decision even though everyone in the staff wanted him back. Also, see Glass as Dorsetts replacement rather than Boyles.

If everyone on the staff wanted Boyle back, they would have made him AN offer. Attempted to massage his ego about his "role". Instead they let him walk and signed Tanner Glass for 1.5M.

The rangers management really cannot do much until they know what their RFAs are getting. You cant spend money you dont have. They will have to wait until thats done and then look at whats left in the bargain bin. Maybe a guy like Heatley hangs around and signs real cheap for the 3rd line.

Or maybe we hope that guys like Miller, Lindberg, and Fast can take the next step.

I'm not sure you've thought much about it, but the Rangers were in basically identical situation last summer.

Stepan, McDonagh, Hagelin, Zuccarello = ~$11m
Brassard, Moore, Kreider, Zuccarello = ~13m

Hagelin signed the earliest of those guys and he signed on the 10th. The Rangers shored up their depth with the Pouliot and Moore signings on the 5th. Good GMs have a sense of what money they have available to give out. For the Rangers, that number should be $1.5m-2m.
