i think its the right move...the kids that stay in college longer (hagelin, stepan, mcd) seem to have a much easier transition.

returning for their junior seasons didn't hurt mcdonagh or kreider...but stepan turned pro after his sophomore year. so he's the only one faced with this decision after year 2 that left school

True, but there can also be cases of staying in college too long hurting your development.

Kristo probably stayed in NoDak too long. Has absolutely no ability to play defense and is already 24. Is he going to learn defense in the next two years? Probably not.

NoDak has a questionable record developing NHLers in recent years though. I don't think that's an issue at Minnesota. It still would've been better if Skjei signed though.

Definitely not arguing Skjei's decision, I think it was the right one.

Really hope Lucia gives Skjei some more offensive opportunities.

If everyone on the staff wanted Boyle back, they would have made him AN offer. Attempted to massage his ego about his "role". Instead they let him walk and signed Tanner Glass for 1.5M.

I asked this before and I'll ask it again, do you honestly believe that the staff just said "Nah, screw Boyle, we want Tanner Glass instead" or do you think there's a bit more to it?

Has anyone figured out what the Devils are trying to do yet?

Are they trying not to be horrible, so that Schneider re-signs... and then tank?

Looks like the Devils built a team with pretty good depth, to be fair. Definitely not a particularly young team, though.

I don't believe the "staff" had much to do with it.

Exit meetings probably went something like this:

Boyle "Hey, listen, if I'm going to sign here, coach, I really want an expanded role, more minutes, and move up to the third line. Will I have that role if I sign here?"

AV "No, we plan on using you the same way we did this year"

At that point, why would they make the guy an offer? It's done. He's moving on. This isn't Tanner Glass instead of Boyle because we "let him walk". It's Tanner Glass because Boyle wanted something the Rangers couldn't or didn't want to provide. Boyle had a decent role on this team - 4th line, PK, and important defensive face-offs. Not much more for him to do for the NYR.

Devils not much on the blueline but

Ryder Elias Jagr henrique cammalleri zajac havlat brunner and a solid 4th line. It's patchwork for sure but might be good enough to make the playoffs
