Wilson likes to run his mouth.

Exactly. Why would a well built team all of a sudden break it down? They're a contender every year. Makes no sense. A re-tool, like I said a month ago here is likely because they've been doing it since the shortened season, Murray, Clowe, trading Boyle's rights.

What is Ribeiro looking for? I'd really take him on a 1 year deal even though I hate him. With the cap space we have, we could probably fit him in if he wanted to take a deal like Havlat got with NJ.

(estimations for 2014-15)
SALARY CAP: $69,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $68,536,667; BONUSES: $445,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $463,333

A little bit of wiggle room for the RFA's there if we were to sign Ribeiro at 1.5 and have Mueller as the extra forward. That Glass contract really is a ****ing killer. I won't get over that for the rest of the summer.

Legwand signed with Ottawa 2 years $3 million AAV.

Would have preferred getting Legwand on that deal, not sign glass and let R. Bourque, Fast and Lindberg battle it out for the two fourth line winger spots.

Just don't think bringing in a guy with Ribeiro's off ice issues is a good idea.

Rangers Brass must have another idea here... They aren't going for any of the high profile names... only thing that rings a bell at this point is they are giving Derek Roy a look, or they're looking to trade a player they have for someone..

That's really disappointing. No reason the Rangers couldn't have offered that and screwed around with being over the cap and making it work over the summer.

This ticks me off. Legwand is good 5-5 player and an excellent 5-4 player.

Can't figure out what Glen & Co. think they have down the middle that's supposed to replace Richards and Boyle.

There's nothing to replace Boyle down the middle, considering he played last year on the wing

And 'making it work over the summer' would be idiotic

The Rangers have no way to take on a big contract and make it work. Unless of course, we're trading Staal/Girardi/Nash.

'Making it work later' = Zucc/Brassard offer sheet, that we can't match

I'm inclined to feel the same way, but you could always Avery him with a one year deal and just send him to the minors where he wouldn't report. Even with losing Richie and Boyler, this locker room is still very veteran heavy.

MSL
D. Boyle
Hank
Staal
Girardi
D. Moore
Glass
Nash

Dany Heatley would have been a much better signing depending on what he's looking for then Glass. I feel he won't get more then 2 Mil and would be ideal on the 4th line.

Brian Boyle is a center. I don't care what he played last year. Surely you know this.

No, "making it work" is something a lot of teams will have to do to come into cap compliance. You can always shed players. Once a guy like Legwand is signed, it's one less option. Chicago, Boston, TB, and LA are all within 2.2M of the cap to being 2.2M OVER the cap and they're all pretty decent teams, eh?

And, speaking of idiocy, how many offer sheets have you seen since they became part of the NHL fabric? Hardly ever. And they are almost never not matched.

Idiocy is having a roster composed of (so far) *SIX* NHL forwards. Seven if you want to count Miller. What happens if Zukes, Brass, & Kreider all decide that they are going to hold out (a la Stepan) until they get what they want?

We field an AHL roster, that's what happens. Think they don't know that the Rangers are up against it and can't field a competitive team unless they sign?

Legwand would've helped that situation, albeit slightly.

He should've been signed. Setoguchi is still out there. Ott is still out there. Rangers need insurance policies if their RFAs don't sign. Right now, they don't have any.

Names Morin, Carter, MPS, Berglund (trade), Ott, Penner, Winnick, Mueller and Carcillo intrigue.
But - as RB and others have avidly pointed out- the lack of cap $$$ makes most signings impossible
What the RFAs are going to get decides what room - if any -we got
Maybe 1-2 new names signed on the cheap, the rest will have to be internally generated (a combo of Miller, Fast, Lindberg, Haggerty, Kristo, McIllWrath, Allen...)
Which makes the team a bit weaker on paper. But younger players can continue to develop, Nash and MSL could have stellar bounce back years (in a NYR uniform during regular season). Richards play and production was dropping faster than a wingless bird anyways...
No "sleeper" unsigned names in €urope that might be of interest that could be worth taking a flyer on? Anyone?

Happened like all the time, brah!

This "Soft Brian Boyle" myth has to go.

Brian Boyle hit ranking on team:

10/11 1st regular season, 3rd playoffs
11/12 2nd regular season, 3rd playoffs
12/13 2nd regular season and playoffs
13/14 2nd regular season and playoffs

He may not have delivered the toughest checks, but he knocks people off the puck often enough.

Thank you!

I don't believe the "staff" had much to do with it.

Exit meetings probably went something like this:

Boyle "Hey, listen, if I'm going to sign here, coach, I really want an expanded role, more minutes, and move up to the third line. Will I have that role if I sign here?"

AV "No, we plan on using you the same way we did this year"

At that point, why would they make the guy an offer? It's done. He's moving on. This isn't Tanner Glass instead of Boyle because we "let him walk". It's Tanner Glass because Boyle wanted something the Rangers couldn't or didn't want to provide. Boyle had a decent role on this team - 4th line, PK, and important defensive face-offs. Not much more for him to do for the NYR.

This is 100%, except that while I usually concur with AV like 85-90% of the time, this was big f up by coach.
BOYLE AS A C IS IRRELEVANT.
He would have been Lw replacing Pou already good chemistry w/Brass-Zuc.
No C responsibilities except help out on FOs, to which he was what, best on the team?

AV SHOULD have done a bernmeister and thought outside the box
YEAH, YOU HEARD ME :amazed::amazed::amazed::amazed:
and said,
"Boyle, I raise you.
You get Bras + Zuc, provided you dont crap all over yourself (reasonable given he did not during last years POs). However, you gotta do 1 yr, dirt cheap 2m, and if you f up you are on a short leash, I can trade your ass halfway through the season, is all I gotta give you. Deal?"

If it was only 1 yr to prove himself and get great numbers here, IMO BB would have done t.

But no, AV let his ego dictate on this one.

Wonder if Staal is still trade bait at this point... i dont think they want to extend him..

They should do 3 yrs at reasonable term, MAYBE 4.
Worth more extended if reasonable.

We need to trade Girardi.
Staal we could may restructure a little as an extension.
Griardi is written in stone.

The only other big contract is Hank, he's not getting touched.

And of course Nash, who should be sent to Detroit before Holland (I expect based on fans at the boards) changes his mind.

Dany Heatley would have been a much better signing depending on what he's looking for then Glass. I feel he won't get more then 2 Mil and would be ideal on the 4th line.

Heatly may not have enough in the tank, though Glass seems a mistake.

We should have taken it on the chin and not signed Dan Boyle , and that 4.5 m gives you the 5m needed for Vrbata.

Doesn't solve all problems but that is legit sniper with legit production.

I agree about Hayes, only ? is with multiple bidders, what is the cost?
Would be ideal if we can get him close as possible to day 1.

As to Bourque, like with 1 or 2 others, there could be some value in giving minutes early on, showcasing, and moving contract for a pick.

We do have 1 guy of interest coming into camp: Andrew Yogan. Bigish 6/3or 4 I remember, lefty, W-C.
This is last year on ELC, we have to use him or lose him.

Some scoring ability.
4th line MAYBE a step up if an injury and he hits the ground running.
Still, hungry guy, big, tall. could be replacement for BBoyle bottom 6 more pop on offense, less defense. Don't expect he's gonna skate fabulous, but ok for a taller guy.

HAPPY 4TH EVERYBODY/:hockey::hockey::5::wave::cheer::partytime:

COL has 10mil in cap space with 22 roster players. How the ***** did they do that but we're up against the cap? ******you Nash and your huge cap hit
