I had a dream that we traded Staal+ for Johansen.

Was the saddest I've ever been when I woke up.

Staal +?
As if staal by himself isn't a good enough deal?

RJ had one good year lets give it a little time before giving him "established stud" tags.

Well it would take a "+" based on the disparity in years of team control. Of course, they have to be interested in actually dealing him first. I don't think they are.

This "Soft Brian Boyle" myth has to go.

Brian Boyle hit ranking on team:

10/11 1st regular season, 3rd playoffs
11/12 2nd regular season, 3rd playoffs
12/13 2nd regular season and playoffs
13/14 2nd regular season and playoffs

He may not have delivered the toughest checks, but he knocks people off the puck often enough.

Thank you!

Leading a soft Ranger team in hits isn't really something to crow about.

Last season:

Glass had 247 hits in 789 minutes of icetime.

Boyle and Dorsett had 256 hits in 1,608 minutes.

Hits isn't really a good stat for comparing players on different teams because every arena's stat-keeper has their own interpretation of what a hit is. Some are very stingy and some give them away for any contact at all. Although it might help your point that the MSG guy is one of the guys that hands them out for anything, I think. Not sure about Pittsburgh.

Understood but Glass has typically been the biggest hitter on his teams and that's not just on one team:

2013-14 Pittsburgh: 247 hits in 789 minutes (#1 on team)

2012-13 Pittsburgh: 125 hits in 483 minutes (#1 on team)

2011-12 Winnipeg: 246 hits in 1,046 minutes (#1 on team)

2010-11 Vancouver: 130 hits in 651 minutes (#3 on team, 19 behind #1 in 555 less minutes)

2009-10 Vancouver: 165 hits in 701 minutes (#1 on team)

you are completely out of touch with reality if you think staal alone is enough to get johansen...clb would demand mcdonagh+

Nice. I have a feeling we won't mind him as a player as long as AV gives him a small role. It's just annoying we gave him 1.35 for 3 years.

I agree that you would have to add to Staal. I disagree that they would expect, much less ask for, McDonagh, factoring in age, talent and contract status. RJ is looking like a legit #1, but he's about where McDonagh was last year in progression, whereas McDonagh has taken the next step in development and has now cemented himself as a perennial Norris candidate - and he still has upside. In addition, he's signed to a solid deal that takes him years out. Not only does RJ need to take that next step, he's locked in a contract dispute. I would trade damn near anyone for him 1-for-1, but McDonagh I would not (and McDonagh + is just crazy talk).

Earlier this week, the Penguins signed Steve Downie who said that no longer will players be allowed to take liberties on Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. (PHT)

In the Rangers series against the Penguins, Marc Staal hit Sidney Crosby and*drew*the*ire*of thePenguins*and*their*media*because*there*was no discipline.

So maybe that's why we got glass :sarcasm:

McD+ for Johansen? That is crazier talk than Staal+ by a mile. McD is probably considered top 5 or 6 defenseman in the league. He'd bring back a lot more than some RFA who had one good season.

CLB would demand the entire 94 team and a time machine to get them here today in the exact shape they were in then.

He's a heart and soul player. Hits, fights, he's tough, and we'll love him for that. He just sucks at actually paying the game of hockey.
