That guy is certainly not Miller.

It is Hughes by a mile right now.

Miller is prone to spiralling out of control and at this age I do not believe that is going to change.

That being said, he has been absolutely fantastic this year.
Spiraling out of control. I guess when you watch 2 out of every 14 games you have lots of time to let your imagination run wild.

It's pretty wild how many people on this board were against extending Miller. He's on one of the best contracts in the league.

I'm sure there's still some bozos on here who will argue he'll be trash the last year or two of the contract. For starters, he's one of the best players in the league right now, so who cares? Second, I don't believe he'll dramatically fall off. Way too competitive to become a plug.

My argument was always that guys are playing effective late into their careers and there's no reason he shouldn't age like Marchand. Their career trajectories are eerily similar.

It is not JUST the money, it is his age AND where the team is at in overall age. Miller is a WIN NOW player with maybe 3 more years of being effective.
I have been impressed with his adoption of being a shut down player which will extend his usefulness.

Jamie Benn and Tyler Sequin were more than just good but fell off a cliff.
Search out how many and who are 33/34 yrs old and still the #2 center on the team. Not many;

9 are 35 yrs or older and only 3, Malkin, Crosby and Kopitar have more than 1 point
7 are 34 and two have 6 and 7 points one has one point
2 are 33 with total of one combined point
8 are 32 - Taveras 16, O'Reilly 14, Kadri 9 the rest have less
12 - 31 - 2 players in double digits, 4 - 0pts,
18 are 30 including Miller - 5 in double digits

So 30 and over there are 56 of over 750 players 30 and over and only 11 have double digits.

It is just the odds, law of averages. Miller has not the pedigree of most of those named. BUT he hasn't suffered a lot of injuries and that does count. But those show he should fall off the cliff over the next 3 years but he has already lost half a step the last two years.

Even Taveras started to have question marks on his value.

Of all 30 to 35 yr olds Miller is tied for the 6th most expensive contract.

Yes.

Lets find an outlier and point to it to disprove the statistical trend.

By seasons end, JT could realistically be as high as 8th overall in league scoring during his 5 season tenure here, and possibly be #1 for all time Canucks ppg.

For reference, Daniel Sedins best 5 year stretch had him at #5, with Crosby at #6 (100 games missed)

With hopeful health and team success, he can crush some Canuck records.

I was super leery of him because he had a lot of baggage and he wasn't doing a lot to endear me last season.

Tocchet has done a good job at whipping the whole team into shape, Miller included. If he stays like this, I have no complaints on him.

I knew some of you wouldn't disappoint me when you popped up.

By far the best forward on the team and arguably the best all-round forward in the whole league right now. Love him proving the haters wrong. Compare him to Crosby or Malkin, well he's better than both those guys right now and by a pretty significant margin. Well, he's better than pretty much everybody right now. Gets no respect.

Plays with plugs for linemates in Boeser and PDG and drags them through the mud. Only reason Boeser has 13 goals just like he was the only reason Horvat had a career year on the PP. Without Miller Boeser would be a dead weight most games still.

Was something I said wrong?

Remember when last year everyone claimed Miller can't play defense? Hell, we had people insisting nobody would want his contract.
He had been the worst defensive player I had ever seen for those 50 games to start the season.

JTM is a f***ing monster this year. There was one shift in the game where he just threw an Islander off himself like Tryamkin vs the whole ducks team and then set up a scoring chance.

It’s so wild he’s never missed a game to injury as a Canuck. It’s the #1 reason I think his contract is going to be fine.

We have to bolster this roster as much as possible so we can take advantage of Miller's..... peak? What in the world, never thought I'd see the day, but here we are lol.

He's a f***ing beast this year.
Absolutely.

If you are buying this start and Millers performance, but dont think we should go all for the cup right now I dont understand how your brain works.
