Player Discussion JT Miller Thread

They were both offered contracts. One accepted, one did not. Bo wanted a chance to earn a larger one, he increased his offers, and still hasn't signed. He seems to have his sights set on a new team. That's more his choice than the teams. If Bo isn't accepting 7-8m offers, then there's not much that can be done, takes 2 to tango.

Position has nothing to do with it, original offers were made after 2 very shaky years from EP, and a broken footed Bo. Their ability to be swapped was seen as a big strategy and strength going forward.

JT is one player, he's not keeping them from signing Bo any more than anyone else. If it's about money, then really they've chosen not to bite the bullet on guys like Boeser and/or Garland over keeping Bo.
I dont think this is all very well thought out by you. :)

Is moving JTM a viable option? If not for the flat cap situation I’d imagine there would be suitors, it won’t be a haul though.

CBJ, MIN, NYI all need help upfront. He’d be the 2nd, 3rd, 2nd highest scorer on their teams respectively.

Are any of the following for illustrative purposes completely unrealistic? Add or remove assets as needed.

-Jenner, roster player and a pick
-Dumba + Gaudreau (maybe even Foligno)
-Beauvillier+ Pageau

I don't know what the hell happened with Horvat and Miller this year but very recently I remember:

Miller looked like an offensive force who looked like he had the will and ability to drive in and score single-handedly at any moment, aka one of Bennings only successes.

Alternatively, posters were consistently claiming how Horvat is softer than ever, bad offensively, overpaid and an awful captain.

Its obvious to say but knowing now that we will only have the ability to afford 1 of the 2 at this stage is something I doubt anyone would have predicted. Horvat going on this killer run and Miller on his stinky run had to be a surprise to everyone.

I think the issue with the signing at the time was that the consensus believed we are not in the position to be giving out large contracts based on the teams ability as a contender. Def not a Horvat over Miller, and no indication that Horvat priced himself so high with outstanding play.

Management is and has been beyond incompetent, and maybe I don't creep on this forum as much but so many people are now shouting " I atodaso, I f***ing attodaso." when they honestly had no idea at the time.

I think Miller being a TOTAL black hole defensive as a center, is a very extreme result. A decline was to be expected.

His drop of offensive production how ever is right in line with his career. His 3.5 points per 60 last year is an outlier season. This years 2.5 is far more in line with what he has done. What he did during the COVID season, and the year in Tampa he was traded.

did anyone see this? Oh please be true. the source NHLTRADE rumours a "trust me bro" type of source, thinks, the Rangers Pens, Devils and the Red wings might be interested in JT.

I'd love to send him to Calgary who are rumoured to be buyers this year despite being out of the wild card currently, in an unrelated note it's Treliving's last year of his contract. No idea how they'd make the cap work next year but it'd be fun to watch.

I would agree except I don't know who we can realistically get from Calgary that makes me want to do a deal with Calgary. Their recent 1st round picks like Coronato, Zary, and Pelletier look more like busts than destined to be top 6 NHL forwards.

There's no top 6 forward or top 4 Dman type stuck behind someone that the Flames would be willing to trade if they are looking to contend as far as I can see. Can we get Dube ++? In terms of roster players there's not a whole lot there. Lots of old guys and or underachievers.

That site is essentially the same as if you or I started a canucks rumor site.

I still think he gets traded and I still think it is the Islanders

The rumored deal nixed due to a leak and this season attention has been everywhere but Miller trade rumors. No leaks because no talk.

He fits for them.

They need scoring and he does score.

They could use a sometimes center.

They have veteran leadership so Miller can be just a player again..

The contract is the type Lamoriello offers out, including clause.

Lamer prefers ready made players in "win now" windows.

They have a few younger players that might be termed failed or not yet achieved potential as Rutherford stated.

They have defensive redundancy with some younger dmen.

Miller and Schenn? Both "win now" and Schenn with cup experience.

Walstrom, Dobson/Romanov and their 1rst?

Some retention on the current active contract might be needed so they can make another deal.

I think that return helps the Canucks defence and future and allows Lamer to improve his team now.

The deal would have to be soon because they are on the cusp of missing the playoffs and if they are too far out Lamer might nix any thoughts of any trades.

Their remaining schedule does show 10 games versus teams sub .500 teams

Any trade I would think would come a few days before February 6 so the new players have a few practices and then they play the Flyers but Ruthrford may want to wait until after they play the Canucks on February 9th.

This crosses all the "T"s and dots all the "I"s for everything said by Rutherford and Lamer's MO.

Okay way wrong about that one. But I did the Islanders right just the wrong player.

Now Vegas could be included in teams that might, could have interest in Miller.

With Stone out with back surgery, who knows how bad that is, there is a miniscule remote possibility the Miller could be on their radar although I will admit they may look at ORielly or Tarasenko because they have expiring contracts.

IMO in any trade I think Vegas will have to shed salary or have retention for this year.

Stone has had back issues for years and I am not sure if this is the first surgery or not but if it is career ending they might look at Miller because he is younger.

but guys he's a reclamation project....

top 15 producer in the NHL for the last 4 years, 55% in faceoffs. His 8 million per season is more than fair. Horvat is outside the top 50 and is about to get paid more than JT Miller.

Once Miller signed that extension, I figured for better or worse he was a Canuck for life. Now I'm not so sure.

If the Canucks were to eat some salary in any trade, it could be open season for his services. Current rumor mill is that the Islanders have circled back on him. An earlier rumor had New Jersey interested. And of course Miller has been linked to the Rangers for almost a season and a half.

Canucks could do worse than working up a fierce competition between the New York City Metro rivals. Adding Miller at the trade deadline could really tip the playoff scales.

One thing is for certain. This TDL might be the most intriguing in more than a decade for the Canucks.

He has been playable at centre for a couple of games now.

Limiting his ice time from 24 to 16ish per game seems to help a ton.

Is moving JTM a viable option?

i can't see why not. Rangers or the Islanders or whoever inquired about him, did have intention of signing him anyways right? Please move this guy. I can't stand that 8 million sitting there eating up cap room.

Lol imagine if NYI trades for him and recreates the Bo/Miller issues. That’s the type of drama I want to see in the NHL.
