Player Discussion JT Miller Thread

Just think, his 7yr-$8M extension hasn't even started yet. Good times ahead for the team and Miller. Given his attitude I expect a pretty toxic 7 years. They better find a way to move this guy and fast because there is no scenario where this goes well.

I posted this in the game day thread of the Toronto game last night, but the announcers had said that Luke Schenn and JT were getting in eachothers faces earlier that morning.

Schenn who is a two time Stanley Cup champion with the Lightning, and a known leader on the team.
Then there is JT who speaks loudly, and often lets his on ice and off ice actions get the better of him.

With each story that comes out, I think I'm starting to see who the cancer in the team is.

Miller is a bozo. I don't care what his defenders say. He's probably even worse now that he has his financial security locked up. There is nothing holding him back.

No no.

Bruce had them do a battle drill and started it with Schenn vs Miller.

2 players practice hard vs each other.

Cancer omg.

No it really isn't? People are being knee jerk

If they just let him be what he is and played him LW with Bo or Petey he instantly becomes one of the best LWs in hockey.

All these takes about can't play C yet he just had 99pts and was FAR and away the teams best player at C??

Is he ideal there No? Why because he's high risk high reward and with our roster anyone playing C being the next link to a btm5 defense playing a wide gap system is gonna create some issues. Add AHL goaltending a slow start and it's a bit of a disaster.
you may consider dropping the phrase knee jerk from your vocabulary on this canucks board

this has been a near decade long staying of the course, compounded by multiple double downs

canucks fans have no functional working memory of anything “knee jerk”

Miller with 9 goals now. As much as everybody seems to hate him, he is living up to his contract stat wise. We would still get a return on him if the Canucks did trade him this year.

If you just completely ignore his even strength production and overall results entirely, then sure, stat wise it's totally fine.

...and Miller has the "A", not Schenn which neatly sums up this team in a nutshell...

We don't know the room. Hearing reports of players not getting along is concerning. On the other hand, is it so bad that the players are pissed off and getting into each other's faces during practice?

The world has changed, but there were losing years in the past where we wanted the team to have players wearing emotions on their sleeves. Sure we don't like players who whine and show bad discipline and body language but at the same time we want the players to hold themselves accountable.

If Miller can't defend at C he shouldn't be playing C. If he's going to play C, Miller needs to take it upon himself to be better defensively.

Because he’s a pp merchant?

Since the turn of the new millennia, 22 seasons (it could be much longer, got tired of going down the list) Two Canuck players, have had 1 season each, with more ES points than Miller has had. They had far fewer ES goals though, and did it playing on the same line, on a higher scoring ES team. Oh yea, they also won the Ross in those 2 years. You can guess their names, it's the same.

JT has lots of PP goals this past month, thankfully, otherwise we wouldn't be top 5 in any good stat. Implying he's a PP mooch is complete BS. He'd be worth his 5mill contract on ES production alone since joining the team, and would still rank 4th or 5th on the team scoring. Take away every goal of his last year, he still leads the team in points. He's the guy the rest of the team pads their stats with.

Plenty of things to complain about, lets not make any up.

Is that you JT? Not show the stats of goals against. I’ll wait

If you want to say he's been poor on the PK, or gets often caught out of position in his own end this year, then you won't get much argument.

Calling the guy a PP specialist, is just flat out wrong, and insulting to a long list of players, past and present, who can't come close to his ES production.

If you don't realize Miller is part of the problem plaguing the Canucks at this point I don't know what to tell you. He should already have been moved, and will probably play a successful role somewhere over the remainder of his career, but shouldn't be here.

Do you think JTM9 contract has positive or negative value ? I believe you would have to add picks to get someone to take that on. Same with really everyone except EP40. If we clean house I’m not sure people want any of these contracts.

Great Post

People can be infuriating in this town. Same things with Luongo back in the day and the "sisters". We eat our own and attack the good players vs the management that has poorly constructed the team around them.

On another note why is Miller's contract bad? He gets up front money which makes his buyout in perhaps the last 2-3 yrs if needed pretty painless?

For 3 seasons we get a top15 scorer with physicality and switch blade versatility for 5.25 million everyone laps it up and then once the guy gets paid they turn on him because he's not a cheerful loser like half the milk toast players on this team.

25 minutes last game because half the lineup is unplayable with a lead.

If you don't realize Miller is part of the problem plaguing the Canucks at this point I don't know what to tell you. He should already have been moved, and will probably play a successful role somewhere over the remainder of his career, but shouldn't be here.
How is he part of the problem?

I do agree about is it right for us given where we are but what about the actual contract is so bad?

It will prevent us from re-signing Horvat and Miller can't handle Horvat's #2C duties. If your goal is to compete in the near term, this clearly makes the team worse.

In addition, Miller is the personification of the "give no shit about defense", one-way play that makes this team so bad. He's observably lazy on too many occasions, and if this team has issues with the structure he's near the top of the list.

I 100% agree with this and have been saying it for a while. In a vacuum I think it is actually a good contract. I just don't think it was what we should have done.
Depends. Obviously right now it looks poor given the start and state of the roster for us but i still see it as a favorable contract for teams as long as the up front money is not a problem

It's structured so it has a 1.67 buyout if the last 2/3 become unsavory, thats pretty damn good if someone wants to add a top15 NHL scorer to take a few runs at a cup
