Even with Savard being traded the odds of us dropping to 3rd are very low, we basically have to go on an 11 game losing streak just to get even with them. We have to be worse then we were under Ducharme.

Honestly the worst thing for the rebuild would be to play at that level of bad because it means guys like Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle are complementary pieces that we can't build around. So we essentially have to start over from scratch. The bottom line is if our young guys are any good we won't play at or below Ducharme levels of suck.

Outside of Celebrini there isn’t a ton separating the rest of the top-10 players in my opinion, and that’s not a slight on the draft class because it’s a decent class. There just isn’t a ton separating the rest of the group and arguments could be made for many of them to be top-5 selections.

There’s no benefit to us tanking the rest of the season this year. We just need to stay the course and let nature take its course.

Not impressed with Roy. Not enough foot speed and way too slow. It’s like he’s skating in quicksand.

I agree with the first part about the odds of getting to 3rd or 4th needing to be heavily considered.

But we can go on a long losing streak without it meaning the young core are bad.

I think he has room for improvement there, for sure.....................that said, a pretty lame SO attempt last night to end the game...............I wont mention who he reminded of in that SO.

The odds of getting to 3rd or 4th don't need to be considered at all because they are so small it's basically meaningless.

A long losing streak like we just saw with Arizona does signal that something is seriously wrong with the core. So unless there's several big injuries to those core players it would be a huge red flag for the rebuild, and I assume even the most pro-tankers aren't wishing for injuries to our core players.

It's pretty normal for guys for guys too look overly slow when first breaking into the NHL. The pace of the game is so quick that if you spend too much time thinking instead of reacting then you are behind the play. Roy is still a bit slow in reacting to plays before they develop, as a result he starts too late and since he isn't a speedster in the best of times he looks especially slow.

So much of NHL speed is based on reading the play and positioning since in most cases getting a head start is more valuable then top-end speed. Given time I expect Roy who does have good IQ to figure out that type of stuff and then look faster without actually being faster.

Foot speed may be slow, but he’s always in the play. High IQ players find a way. He has it. A skating coach will help with that. This kids a gem

He's a better player than what we are seeing right now, losing Monahan affected his play. I believe he will be a 40-50-point player in a few years, he has the smarts to do so.

It's debatable whether Monahan is more valuable to our young forwards than Savard is to our young D. But, I guess Hughes didn't think it was a good move to give him the money and term he was asking for. So he had to go.

Monahan was an injury risk and we have Dach and Beck coming up.

Dach yes, Beck I'm not yet sold on at the NHL level.

At the right term and cap hit I still want Monahan back, though it is extremely likely to happen I think.

If Beck isn’t here next year he’ll be here the year after

We'll see. Plenty of players have looked good at the OHL level, but not so much at the NHL level.

Plekanec started off his 1st year largely on the 4th line, after playing 3 full years in the AHL (though that was a different wra).

That’s also why Gainey canned Julien - he wanted the young players having larger roles and said precisely so during the presser when he announced he’d takeover for the remainder of 05-06 season to help groom Carbo

You can be sure Beck will be pulling out all the stops to land here next season.
He'll be a Hab next year at some point probably sooner than later go ahead and bookmark this.

Could be. But that could be on the fourth line. I'm not sure his ceiling over the next 5 years is higher than Monahan's as 3c for the next 5 years though. that's why I want Monahan back.

Yep. It’s very early. I’m hopeful he’ll be a decent top sixer. And honestly, even that would be a huge win given where he was drafted.
