Roy has higher upside and this is what a Stanley Cup champion needs.

And now he's proving his doubters wrong by making himself useful in various roles, whereas he was perceived as "Top 6 or bust" before.

Farrell has nothing on Roy.

I don't agree. Farrell is every bit as skilled as Roy and has proven his defensive and PK acumen against better competition throughout his career to date.

But we are splitting hairs here.. having Beck, Farrell and Roy all showing great offensive upside and an ability to be above average to downright elite defensively, can only bode well for the future.

Still have Farrell ahead of him.
When do you expect it to become clear who's right, next season in the AHL or the season after?

How far back is Mesar?

How far back is Mesar?

I'd say Mesar would be the next after that group, probably the highest offensive ceiling of all of them with the best skating.. just want to see him round out his game. But he's also younger than all except Beck.

And I don't think any of that stuff becomes clear until they've had 3 seasons in the NHL. You have a pretty good indication in the 3rd year who is who, if they aren't coming in as teenagers like a Slaf or Galchenyuk did.

Toffoli is a great comparable, I also see a bit of Perreault or Tanguay in him.

I really like Mesar, he reminds me a lot of Koivu

Important to remember that Farrell is almost two years older than Roy. That's a lot at that stage.

I'm not a scout but like Roy's ability to makes positives plays outside of offense. Sticks in lanes, right side of the puck, angles, board battles ( leasing to Bedards slick breakaway everyonecraved about the spin n outlet pass bit Roy started that play on defensive half wall I hink)
They all won't make it but is 4 solid Fs not yet in Habs system...Beck, Farrell, Mesar, Roy)
Again I'm no scout but I'm more optimistic than the last batch of RHP, Ylonen etal.
No digging on any1 lol.

I still think having Caufield, Farrell and Mesar in your top six is way way too small.
I think people have blinders on... imo we can keep 1 smallish guy on the lineup, the others will need to be traded. While the league is getting somewhat smaller, but def faster - it doesnt mean we have to roster all our developped prospects.
Instead they will used in a larger package to acquire better and bigger talent.

If we are going to keep CC, then both mesar and Farrell will need to be shipped.

No team is going to win a cup with small dudes galore

I haven't watched much of the tournament so far but I'm happy to hear that Roy's doing well.

I had high expectations for him in the pre-season and I wasn't really impressed. He seemed slow out there. Hoping he can continue to build on a good tournament!

I've seen the Toffoli comp a lot and it's pretty good, but I think Roy is smarter and a better playmaker. His positioning and reads are excellent. He's always in the right spots and it's part of what allows him to use his skill to make plays.
