They played on the same line in 4 of the 7 games.

The first two games where Roy was on the top line with MacTavish and Bedard. Then they played 3 games where Roy and Mason were not together.

And then in the semi-final and final, they were on the line together with Dufour.

So it could be two things: Mason wanted to play with Roy when the tournament started. And when they played a few games apart, Mason probably asked to play with Roy again.
I didn't think it was that many, alrighty then. Still didn't seem to keep up with those two and played better away from them. Different styles of play

It's not that he doesnt keep up with them its just a matter of 3 guys wanting to control play and they can't have 3 pucks on the ice....3 play drivers on the same line never work . Wawa skating is not a strenght but i don't see it as a problem going forward as we have good development guys for once. He could end up a pretty good 2nd line player down the road imo.

What I like here is that he went from 5th round wtf choice to a legit 1st rounder in 1 year by changing context and working hard. Now wins the gold at junior as a pretty effective player. What does that say about hard work? It means that it's worth it! He'll want to do even better and he has another full Q season to work on skating, conditionning/strength and consistency.

The kid has offensive timing and positionning way up there. He'll be so dangerous near the net on rebounds. Even defensively he seems to do well.

I'm not expecting 120 points this season, he'll round up his game and get ready for a pro role which may not be top 6 at the start. He'll have to bring offense while being responsible and prepared to play with men. He should do a good 2 years in the AHL I think but this is a gem to polish which has all the indications of a solid 2nd liner at maturity.

I wish him health and hopes he really gets it. Skills are necessary but work, makes you good.
It's definitely worth it if you actually have skills. Crosby has a ton of skills, but what makes him great is the way he works so hard to maximize those skills.

For players without skills, it is essential to just make the Show, but for those with skills, it is the difference between a supporting cast player and a superstar. Just ask Jo (Drouin).

I was going to say the same thing

It doesn't make sense.

Should we vote William Trudeau over Mattias Norlinder because one got drafted at 18 and the other didn't?

If you are ranking the players in the organization, you have to rank them based on their resume to date and Farrell's is better than Roy's. That can change but right now, there's no reason to put Roy ahead of Farrell because Farrell's development curve has been impressive and he's shown himself on bigger stages against better competition.

Ultimatlely it's about projecting what the players will be in their primes. So first i would see where they were both at at the same age. Then I look at what the older player has done since 18 and see if that puts him ahead of the younger player if the younger player was ahead at the same age, or take him below if the older player was ahead at the same age.

But yes, it's about using their current development curve to ultimately project out a curve that takes them to their prime. What do you see 6'0 Roy being in his prime? What do you see 5'9 Farrell being?

I don't know what Roy will be in his prime because I haven't seen him be able to overcome his skating deficiencies and pace of play against high level competition.

I've seen Farrell play in the Olympics and World Championships against ex-NHLers, NHLers, and pro europeans and each time not only was he able to score points, he was used in critical situations.

So I can comfortably project Farrell as a player who will at least be a middle 6 NHLer who is trusted in every situation, PK, PP and 5 on 5.

I can't comfortably project Roy anywhere in the NHL yet.

While I'm excited about both, I've only watched a little here and there, so don't have my own projections.

Roy sounds like a real wild card, and that he'll have to make improvements in his skating to be a top 6 NHLer.

Their skill sets complement each other. So I could see them playing together. But now we have a lot of other top 6 candidates with the additions of Slaf, Dach, Mesar, etc.. May have to spread Caufield, Mesar, and Farrell out across the top 3 lines.

Current projected future depth chart may look something like this:

Caufield Suzuki Slaf
Roy Dach Mesar/Farrell
Mesar/Farrell Beck Heineman
Roehr Evans/Mysak Ylonen

it's not comparing them on level playing fields though, if a prospect is 2-3 years older then he's got a few advances like physically, maturity, etc...

With Trudeau you have his age 17, 18 and 19 seasons to compare to Norlinder's age 17, 18, and 19 seasons, so clearly you wouldn't rank Trudeau over Norlinder based off that.

Interesting. On HFBOARDS we had Farrell ahead of Roy.

I don't even care because I like them both. So good we have some good offensive potential in Farrell, Roy, Mesar, Slaf, and Dach to go along with Suzuki and Caufield.
You forget Dubois ;)

From everything i have seen of Joshua Roy, including his play in the WJHC, i am not convinced his game will translate to a top-6 role in the NHL. His lack of speed and drive concern me. He generally floats and relies solely on his teammates to create plays and open up ice for him.

I am curious what others think. I see him having a long way to go to improve his game in all facets (other than his shot). He is a smart player though and goes to the quiet areas where a teammate can find him, ala Tyler Toffoli.

Hopefully he works on driving play this season and on his speed/strength.
