What? They played more than half the tournament together.Unfortunately it didn't last long because he couldn't keep up. If Roy can improve his skating, he could be a solid top 6 producer in a couple of years

I didn't think it was that many, alrighty then. Still didn't seem to keep up with those two and played better away from them. Different styles of playThey played on the same line in 4 of the 7 games.
The first two games where Roy was on the top line with MacTavish and Bedard. Then they played 3 games where Roy and Mason were not together.
And then in the semi-final and final, they were on the line together with Dufour.
So it could be two things: Mason wanted to play with Roy when the tournament started. And when they played a few games apart, Mason probably asked to play with Roy again.
It's not that he doesnt keep up with them its just a matter of 3 guys wanting to control play and they can't have 3 pucks on the ice....3 play drivers on the same line never work . Wawa skating is not a strenght but i don't see it as a problem going forward as we have good development guys for once. He could end up a pretty good 2nd line player down the road imo.I didn't think it was that many, alrighty then. Still didn't seem to keep up with those two and played better away from them. It's definitely worth it if you actually have skills. Crosby has a ton of skills, but what makes him great is the way he works so hard to maximize those skills. What I like here is that he went from 5th round wtf choice to a legit 1st rounder in 1 year by changing context and working hard. Now wins the gold at junior as a pretty effective player. What does that say about hard work? It means that it's worth it! He'll want to do even better and he has another full Q season to work on skating, conditionning/strength and consistency.
The kid has offensive timing and positionning way up there. He'll be so dangerous near the net on rebounds. Even defensively he seems to do well.
I'm not expecting 120 points this season, he'll round up his game and get ready for a pro role which may not be top 6 at the start. He'll have to bring offense while being responsible and prepared to play with men. He should do a good 2 years in the AHL I think but this is a gem to polish which has all the indications of a solid 2nd liner at maturity.
I wish him health and hopes he really gets it. Skills are necessary but work, makes you good.
He knows where to be and where to go, that's important.Unfortunately it didn't last long because he couldn't keep up. If Roy can improve his skating, he could be a solid top 6 producer in a couple of years
One of the players I was most looking forward to seeing.Small hand injury will miss the rookie camp in Buffalo
He injured the smaller of his two hands?Small hand injury will miss the rookie camp in Buffalo
You only need to watch Kidney, his future centerman. One of the players I was most looking forward to seeing.
Injuries suck.
Interesting. On HFBOARDS we had Farrell ahead of Roy.
I don't even care because I like them both. So good we have some good offensive potential in Farrell, Roy, Mesar, Slaf, and Dach to go along with Suzuki and Caufield.
I like Kidney, but suspect he may take a little more time to develop. You only need to watch Kidney, his future centerman.
HF got it right. Farrell has done more impressive things and higher levels than Roy.
I was going to say the same thingto me it should be Farrell at 18 vs Roy at 18, not Farrell at 20, Roy at 18.
I was going to say the same thing
It doesn't make sense.
Should we vote William Trudeau over Mattias Norlinder because one got drafted at 18 and the other didn't?
If you are ranking the players in the organization, you have to rank them based on their resume to date and Farrell's is better than Roy's. That can change but right now, there's no reason to put Roy ahead of Farrell because Farrell's development curve has been impressive and he's shown himself on bigger stages against better competition.
Ultimatlely it's about projecting what the players will be in their primes. So first i would see where they were both at at the same age. Then I look at what the older player has done since 18 and see if that puts him ahead of the younger player if the younger player was ahead at the same age, or take him below if the older player was ahead at the same age.
But yes, it's about using their current development curve to ultimately project out a curve that takes them to their prime. What do you see 6'0 Roy being in his prime? What do you see 5'9 Farrell being?
I don't know what Roy will be in his prime because I haven't seen him be able to overcome his skating deficiencies and pace of play against high level competition.
I've seen Farrell play in the Olympics and World Championships against ex-NHLers, NHLers, and pro europeans and each time not only was he able to score points, he was used in critical situations.
So I can comfortably project Farrell as a player who will at least be a middle 6 NHLer who is trusted in every situation, PK, PP and 5 on 5.
I can't comfortably project Roy anywhere in the NHL yet.
It doesn't make sense.
