Not true at all as both Ryder and Toffoli went to the net especially in junior. Roy was very much a perimeter player in the Q but has taken on a slightly different role at the WJC. He is hardly a force in front of the net so I don't know why we are even discussing it.

You shouldn't treat these comparison's as absolutes as they are only matching players who share similarities more than others.

Agreed. I remember watching Ryder in Hamilton and he was definitely not a perimeter player.

Roy has had a productive WJHC points-wise but he has a lot of things to work on in his game. His speed is noticeably bad. He's slower than KK at the same age.

Ya his skating needs a lot of work. Hopefully he has the work ethic to improve unlike KK who never improved his awful conditioning and endurance.
Seems like a good kid and well-grounded. I think its obvious he needs another season in the Q followed by Laval. Lots of good attributes to his game including hockey sense / IQ and shot. I also thought he was smart defensively but lacking strength.

He will be even better in the next world juniors.

there were many issues with KK, but that’s one I never heard of, in any shape or form. Seriously doubt that.
I did read (or heard can't remember) that he did not always seemed to take coaches advice seriously. He was a funny guy who took some stuff a bit too lightly apparently. I don't remember who said it but it was legit. "Dickhead" might not be the best way to describe it though, I agree.

I'd say I was quite wrong about KK's talent and ability, but the MB run Habs had a history of luckily having local journalists run hit pieces on unfavourable players/ex-players at convenient times.

That move is a last resort type of move. Not the classiest but when you have to try that, it tells a lot.

Coming back to the subject of this thread. I feel like he will make a push during training camp. He was already a name during last camp. He already plays a pro game. Not the fastest but he knows where to stands on the ice and more importantly, when to get there.

He's been following a good trajectory for sure. But, playing 3rd-4th line in the NHL won't help him develop more in the areas where he should imo. He's the type of player who's top 6 or bust so his offense should be nurtured in the proper environment.

Oh wow I didn't know this? Can you or anyone enlighten and refresh my memory pls?

KK was resistant to advice and coaching, reportedly had his father in his ear. He was given too much too early and became entitled much like Galchenyuk did......who also had a meddling father who was a former coach. There was alot of cryptic messaging concerning his attitude from management around the last time KK was sent to Laval and in his final season when another move to Laval was rumoured to be looming. Most of it was phrased as "KK is going to have to want to change" inferring a stubborn resolve that was reportedly emboldened by his father.

Who knows exactly what the extent of the issues were but where there is smoke there is fire. How much of that was due to his attitude, management or outside influences or a combination of each is a mystery but there does seem to be a lesson to be learned about handing mentally immature kids jobs that they are not equipped to deal with.

The same will apply to Slafkovsky, if he is an eager student and is able to cope with the ups and downs of a young player in the NHL then he probably remains with the team. If he shows any signs of an attitude then send him to Laval and make him earn his spot. Both KK and Galchenyuk felt like instant stars when they joined the team due to the rabid fan base heaping adoration on them, they felt like a young Commodus with the mob behind them and didn't need to listen to the Senate (management). I am confident in MSL and HuGo's ability to manage expectations and communicate with their young players in a much healthier manner than Therrien/Julien/Bergevin did. This should help to minimize the risk of alienating young players who are going through the peaks and valleys of a typical developmental journey.

It was Stephane Waite who claimed that and I took it as BS back then because he sounded like a pissed off fired employee ranting about his ex-employer and Joel Bouchard talked about coaching KK and it was nothing like Waiter claimed it was.

It's not the only thing Waite said too, but everything else is ignored by fans or was debunked by other news afterward.

Here
TC rarely relies on «18 » year olds in the u-20. That fact gets lost. He just accomplished something very important and special. To be one of the most used forwards (THE most used forward in some games) with little PP and PK is a feat.

As a 5th rounder, this is all gravy. I would’ve liked for the tournament to feature all the eligible players, but If you look at the Fin squad, they were pretty much a complete squad. He played his best game against them. Very positive.

Bouchard was still coaching the Rocket when he said that, he wasn’t going to throw KK under the bus.

And Waite was in the lockeroom and coach meeting (where no one here was), so I will take his comments.

Joel Bouchard said one time that when he gave Kotkaniemi comments he would respond with "yes, but..." , But overall Bouchard did reach Kotkaniemi as he improved drastically in those 11 games.

@The Great Weal simply exaggerated and extrapolated when saying that Kotkaniemi was a dick to his coaches.

The bolded part is what I meant, Bouchard said that KK would argument when being given advices, while Waite said that KK would smile and then ignore them.
