Picking a guy that late you don’t get perfect. This guy is really good at hockey. Like Hutson who needs to grow a couple of inches, it’s quite obvious that this guy needs to work on his skating now to be a successful pro.

No, the Habs need to trade him with Drouin for cap space.

Whenever you get someone in their D+1 who leads their league in scoring, gets on the WJC team and is slated to play line 1 you should focus on everything he doesn't do well and just throw him away.

Need that cap space man. It's -too- valuable for us right now.

Circling back to reality-driven discussion,I'm looking forward to finding out how Roy does in the tournament.

That said I think it's too bad he's going back to the Q. He comprehensively dominated that league last year. He was the number one scorer in the entire league (1st in points, 5th in goals) in spite of some guys being two years older than him, or having played 3 more games than him. It's hard to see him being challenged next year, and it's hard to grow without being challenged.

Reality is depressing, I choose to ignore it

Gotta love this comment. Talking about absolutes and what your doing is the absolute opposite of what I said.

You have just as much if à chance to look foolish down the road, only difference... you also look like a fool now.

You sir, are not able to articulate your thoughts in a cohesive manner. Your post is ripe with conflation and confirmation bias and does not belong in the same thread as myself and many other posters.

If you think I "look like a fool now" I will proudly accept that as a compliment from someone whose opinion reflects the opposite of reality.

I wonder what hype Josh would have if he was Josh King instead of Joshua Roy playing in the hated Q.

Hes not a worse skater than Toffoli. Hes not a worse skater than Evans was in his D+1 (Or even +2). Hes not any worse defensively than Caufield. Hes not softer than Drouin.

The board ranked him 5th behind 3 good first round picks and a guy who played in the OG and WC for team USA, so it's not like he isn't rated highly.

He can 100% get better in the Q.

Producing just as much points while rounding out his game, making his teammates better, being able to produce while being the main focus on a team, etc. Id like to see him in the A for sure but I dont think its impossible for him to progress his game.

With a pretty weak lead, in the poll there was people voting Hutson and Mailloux ahead of him, unacceptable.

Hutson is the exciting new toy and you know why for Mailloux.

I hear what you are saying but I think he needs to show that he can produce without taking shortcuts defensively. The Habs development team want him to concentrate on playing responsibly in all 3 zones which will require him to learn how to produce while having more defenders in front of him rather than behind him. I personally think he really needs to continue to aggressively train in order to continue building on last season's gains. He is still really young relative to his draft class and I am not sure I would want him getting crunched in the AHL while trying to transform his play into a pro style game. Letting him work on it for a full season in the Q before trying to apply it in the AHL feels like the smart move to me.

Roy has alot of work to do in the dzone and neutral zone as he needs to play with more pace and I would rather him figure this out in a league where players are less likely to maim him as he learns.

This isn't to say that your preference of playing pro wouldn't work as it very well may, I just think that he cut a lot of corners last season and played on a stacked line. I think he was the best player on the line but I want to see him as the undisputed main focal point of the team's offence while playing a more complete game. In my opinion that would be great for his development but this discussion only means something if he continues to improve his conditioning because his pace of play must absolutely improve to translate to the pro game.

Glad we have him and hope that he sticks on the top line at the upcoming WJC.

Yep.

The hated Q...is so bad and weak.... that the Q won 10 of the last 24 Memorial Cup.....

Tbh it's nice to see the Habs and HC being so high on this kid, it was a treat to follow his season and see his drive for the net. I'm gonna watch the wjc with a lot of interest in that first line (if it stays like that for the games).

I really hope he stays on the 1st line, or at least in the top 9.

My hope for him this season is that he establishes himself as the guy carrying the team on his back (last year was more of a two-man army), which will need to happen for Sherbrooke to be successful this year. I don't care about the point total (which wouldn't surprise me if it was lower), he needs to control the game whenever he is on the ice. Game plans need to be centered against him. In zoomer words, he needs to be a gigachad.

I hope Adam Nicholas takes a lot of time with him. Farrell really exploded after working with him during his time with the Chicago Steel and hopefully Roy does the same.

5 years is closer to the upper limit, though not even the apex of the upper limit.

But all prospects develop and peak at different rates and different ages. It's important to be patient and wait it out to see the full picture of their developmental trajectory.

That's why it's great to have such a deep prospect pool. Some will make it, some won't. Some will make it faster, so.e will take longer. But in general I'm in favor of letting the cream rise to the top over time.
Yeah, but what was proposed was 5 years from now, not five years from his draft year.

He said that the team told him to concentrate on his overall game if he wants to make it to the pros, to develop a pro game. Fairly straight-forward a mission. Get better in all zones and play a well-rounded game (Don't cheat the D).
