Prospect Info: Joshua Roy Part 2

What makes you think they prevented him but let Roy go? They can't actually do that. It was reported that Montreal preferred he not to attend. For all we know, Montreal didn't want Roy to attend and he did anyways.

Given Roy is guaranteed to go back to the Q, it’s unlikely they asked him not to attend.

Mesar they have options with, they likely want him fresh to participate to determine the best option.

Mesar knows the OHL is still in the cards, but feels the Habs are leaving the door open for the AHL. From his interviews, he absolutely wants to win the AHL job.

I looked up past Q stats to see if Roy's performance was special. I tried to find players in their D+1 years,

2010, Mike Hoffman, 85 points in 56 games, league leader was Couturier with 96 points.

2011, Marchesseault, age 20 season, 95 points in 68 games.

2013, Sven Andrighetto, 98 points in 53 games.

2014, Anthony Mantha 120 points in 57 games, Jonathan Drouin 108 points in 46 games, Emile Poitier 87 points in 63 games.

2015, Nicolaj Ehlers, 101 points in 51 games, Ivan Barhashev 95 points in 57 games

2016, Nicolas Roy, 90 points in 63 games.

2018, Maxime Contois, 85 points in 54 games.

So Roy's performance (119 points in 66 games) looks great !

This guy has an nhl career. I expect him a kind of Micheal Ryder. He has a pretty good wrist shot.

They didn't stop anyone either they gave their preference but left it up to the player.
If the Habs gave their preference, that definitely carries a lot of weight. Habs didn’t need to overtly tell players not to participate.

If they really intended on leaving it up to the player, they would have said so or at minimum, take a neutral stance altogether.

Regardless, it doesn’t matter, what’s done is done.

Roy ready to step into the fake trade limelight, to take Ryder’s place.

One day in the near future, we’ll see Hab fans peddling Monty, Roy and a 2nd so as to perpetuate a dubious HF tradition.

Roy was the youngest of them all by a good margin. As a comparison, remember, at a similar age (two months younger), Ylonen was just drafted.

Drouin was a damn beast. Lol

So far at WJC, he show his top 6 potential. He is really good in details on game, great hockey IQ, great hands and great shot. He needs work on his skating, but that's a thing that can work with a good coach.

He is a solid prospect for us.

Haven't watched the game unfortunately. People saying Roy looked better once split from Bedard, not enough puck for everybody on that line.

If this is what happened, I'm not worried. Just a case of a bad fit. Let Roy have his own line.

Yeah...he was a beast...seriously..

In the last 20 years..this is my top 3 in the Q:

Crosby
Radulov
Drouin

Yep..better than mackinnon.and Lafreniere.

...and the worst part is that I have seen at least 30 games in the Q of all of those players and jeez...Drouin..was so good...a.second Pat Kane coming....

A sad...a very sad career..

But had a terrible World Juniors in Malmo, Sweden.

He looks a little bit shy out there but he will get more confortable by the time. I think I would remove him from the first line though because McTavish and Bedard are playing like they want to keep the puck for themselves.

Roy is one of the youngest players on the team, he'll probably get better as the tournament goes on.

And they did move him away from Bedard and McTavish at one point in the game.

The fact Ehlers play with Meier and Roy don't play with that type of guy, is impressive. Habs a really solid prospect with Roy, for sure.

Ehlers played with a 17 year old Meier whereas Roy played with two 20 year old linemates and Parent is easily better at 20 than Meier was at 17. Ehlers was superior to Roy at the same age, I don't think anyone could reasonably try and argue that.

I am not trying to crap on Roy as I am happy with his development but his skating requires considerable improvement. Let him take his time and work on his body while learning how to play with a more mature/pro style approach. He has come a long way since we drafted him so I definitely have hope for him.
